Shawn Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 Very nice! Looks like 2023 might see a lot of product flexing of the Macross licenses now available overseas
Sanity is Optional Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 All of my yes. Be nice to have some out that take up less space than the 1/60 Arcadia ones (though the PF is staying, so pretty)
twich Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 I for one am really excited over this. Have always wanted a transforming toy of this, never could afford the Arcadia 1/60 version. I Really like the HMR VF-0S, so I know that this will be a winner for me! Twich
F360 Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 OMG, looks at that blue. The small replaceable wings will be nice for this D
MKT Posted November 18, 2022 Author Posted November 18, 2022 (edited) Ok look, white landing gears! Finally?! Edit: I just checked back the VF-0S prototype pics, those had white landing gears too. Sadly that didn't make it to release.. Edited November 18, 2022 by MKT
Convectuoso Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 I'm really excited about this one. I had commission someone to make a custom VF-0D from a Wave kit, but I'll cancel that and wait for this HMR, which looks amazing
Angesdad Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 nice! I like the hexagon missile pod that hopefully comes with it.
MacrossJunkie Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 The mold looks good, but they made the same mistake Arcadia did with their original VF-0D release regarding the color and later fixed with the premium finish edition. It's too dark and saturated.

What's funny in the end is that if Bandai decided to release this in its correct color versus Arcadia in which they showed the correct color first during the announcement and its promotional photos and released the saturated blue version instead before reverting it back for its Premium Finish release. Bandai should do the opposite to poke fun with Arcadia.
David Hingtgen Posted November 29, 2022 Posted November 29, 2022 Yup, my hopes for a cheap correct-colors 0D were quickly dashed. How hard is it to just LEAVE IT HOW THE EARLY SAMPLES ARE and not make it a much deeper more intense (read: WRONG) blue?

Just the original posted pics have had the wrong white-balance to compensate the flashbulb effect. It had the same wrong colors as the Arcadia non-PF all along...
twich Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 I am looking forward to this toy from Bandai. I am not able to really find or afford the Arcadia 1/60 VF-0's or SV-51's. I have always loved the mechanics from Macross Zero and wish that I am that there is an affordable option. This is that option. While some may not like it, I am in love with my Bandai Hi Metal R VF-0S and the fact that I can get it for 12000-15000 yen or $169 from BBTS as opposed to the $400-$800 price tag for the premium finish version from Arcadia. Do I think the Arcadia version is superior? Absolutely! But I can more easily get my wife to approve a $170 toy than a $500 one. Twich
Bolt Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Takes up less space too ! The HMR line is pretty sweet.
MKT Posted December 2, 2022 Author Posted December 2, 2022 The blue now looks exactly like Arcadia's non-PF.. but I can't remember, didn't I read somewhere that the blue on the Arcadia release toy being approved by Kawamori himself? Maybe Bandai is just following for the same reasoning.

I just hope we get an OA CF version next. Arcadia never delivered.
seti88 Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 In the OVA, its more like a navy grey-blue than a total blue if am not mistaken. Ah well, a simple blue coat costs less to paint and can be re-used everywhere i suppose.
twich Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 I really like the new design choices for the Hi Metal R VF-0S and it looks like this is carried over to the VF-0D Shin custom, and I hope that we are able to see the full line of VF-0's: VF-0A, VF-0B, VF-0C, VF-0D, VF-0D Shin Custom and VF-0S, and I hope they are able to also make a solid SV-51. As someone pointed out previously in this thread, the size and price make it so it is very enticing to "collect them all" Twich
505thAirborne Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 (edited) While you're at it Bandai, you can do this one too. Edited December 6, 2022 by 505thAirborne

I'm starting to wonder if there isn't some sort of background business deal going on, actually. This is like the fourth one now that looks like they just shrunk an Arcadia. The similarities are kind of bizarre. Edited December 4, 2022 by Chronocidal
Slave IV Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 Isn’t it the same Valkyrie with somewhat canonized transformation? How different should it look?
MKT Posted December 4, 2022 Author Posted December 4, 2022 I just find it somewhat amusing both 0Ds coincidentally have same blue, if Arcadia's was supposedly wrong.. But I'm not hung up about it myself, it's not different enough to my eyes to consider it bad. Yeah here's hoping Bandai releases those variants Arcadia would not.
Mommar Posted December 4, 2022 Posted December 4, 2022 (edited) They consulted Tenjin, he's the one who made the original textures for Zero. That color is the factory fresh paint scheme prior to a years worth of sea salt exposure. It's not "wrong" but it is screen inaccurate. Edited December 4, 2022 by Mommar

ErikElvis Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 All that tech from the protoculture and they can’t make a decent paint.
Chronocidal Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 I like bother colors, so I'm not really torn over it, but I do think the HMR makes a nice cheaper option for if you want to try and weather one yourself, without wrecking the Arcadia version.

Surprised no one has complained about the 0S colors being "wrong" since it also looks different without all the texturing and weather effects from the anime CGI

In the pantheon of idealized aesthetics, this could be how the Macross toon versus toy versus line art civil wars begin. Other franchises are still embroiled in their own similar civil wars… *cough* debates… to this day. I’m in the both look nice group, btw. If the HMR 0D has a weathered or clean look at retail, I’ll definitely pick it up either way.
MacrossJunkie Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 I wouldn't mind the standard color scheme for the 0D like the ones with Shin & Edgar during training in Ep 2.

Never heard that before Wouldn't Hasegawa have consulted him too? They give very different paint colors.
Bolt Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 (edited) From listening to the speaker pod cast crew over the years. Tenjin san is often consulted with and employed by the official Macross community. Edited December 6, 2022 by Bolt
