All Classic American Animu both series and movies are dark and gritty:

Tom & Jerry: Animal cruelty towards cats.

Smurfs: Communism

Scooby Doo: Hallucinogenic drug use, as Scooby is clearly a figment of Shaggy's imagination.

NO SHAGGY, SCOOBY DIED IN VORKUTA! IT's ALWAYS BEEN U DAMM IT... WAT DO TEH NUMBERS M3AN???

Looney Tunes: Basically a precursor and inspiration for modern MMO and FPS PVP fighting.

GIJOE: Don't ask Don't Tell.

Avatar: Tree hugging liberalism.

Robotech: Female Chest Enhancement.

And now for another comparison between a film and its remake.

Pour Elle (Anything for Her)
TF1 Films/Fidelite Films, 2008
Directed by Fred Cavayé
Starring: Vincent Lindon as Julien Aucler, Diane Kruger (Bridget in Inglourious Basterds, Helen in Troy) as Lisa Aucler

Julien and Lisa Aucler are a happy couple living with their son Oscar, until one day, Lisa is arrested and sentenced to 20 years in prison for a murder she did not commit. Three years later, when he cannot come up with enough evidence to prove her innocence, Julien seeks advice from a former convict and plots the perfect plan to spring his wife out of prison.

The Next Three Days
Highway 61 Films/Lionsgate Films, 2010
Directed by Paul Haggis (Crash, In the Valley of Elah)
Starring: Russell Crowe (Lt. Corbett in Blood Oath, Andy in Proof) as John Brennan, Elizabeth Banks (Betty Brant in the Spider-Man trilogy) as Lara Brennan, Liam Neeson (Gawain in Excalibur, Kegan in Krull) as Damon Pennington

Unlike most remakes, The Next Three Days sticks to the core plot of the original film. Unfortunately, writer/director Paul Haggis has made the film inferior to the original by complicating the plot with unnecessary twists and an emphasis on American homeland security, as well as a shameless plug on the Toyota Prius. As a result, the film winds up in different directions most of the time. Sure, it has Russell Crowe and Liam Neeson (who only appears for at most five minutes), but star power isn't enough to clean up the damage caused by the rewrite.

As a remake, it's not horrible like The Tourist, but there are a lot of frivolous elements that make it not as good as the original. Edited by areaseven

Interesting that they chose to focus on the fact that she wrote the Twilight movies, while Sci-Fi Wire (or whatever they're calling themselves, these days) was quick to point out the other things she's worked on.

Honestly, I've been feeling for a while that this franchise needs a reboot. The first movie is a classic, that stands pretty solidly on its own. But, everything they did afterwards really screwed things up. After they started basing movies on the TV series, there was really no hope left for that franchise. Seriously, have you seen The Source?

I'm honestly not expecting it to be as good as the original, but with luck, it'll be better than any of the sequels. (setting that bar pretty low, ain't I?)

Highlander was trash after the first movie. The first couple seasons of the series were good, but they jumped the shark with the Watchers (having them as a SMALL group that went rogue could have been feasible)

In Highlander, the Hghlander killed all the other Highlanders, and gained the Highlander prize. How could there possibly be anything after that?

What was it, they had to retcon as early as the second movie??

A Doom remake? Jesus.

Update on the much-anticipated Red Dawn remake:

Despite filming finishing in 2009 and production already complete (starring upcoming 'Thor' actor Chris Hemsworth as the protagonist Jed Eckert), MGM had a quick and dramatic change of heart, realising a film focusing on Chinese invaders is unlikely to go down well... in China.

Instead, the studio took the unusual step to change the dialogue and alter all Chinese references to North Korean in a post-production digital overhaul.

 I wonder if they realize that it's not cool to make North Korea the villains either

Wow... seriously? North Korea taking over the United States? It would be far more believable if the plot centered around zombie dolphins in giant bowl aquarium mecha taking over the united states, only to be repelled by a hamster laura croft in a little black halter top.
