  1. I'd say the best way to describe Alien 3 is clusterf**k. It is the most apropos word as it describes both the troubled production and the movie itself. Knowing how it was made does soften the blow though, and the Special Edition is an improvement. I still remember reading about one of the producers saying, "Don't listen to him. He's a f**king shoe salesman!" This was referring to David Fincher in one their meetings. No wonder he disowns it...
  2. I figure it's only a matter of time until they do reboot that's something like Extreme Ghostbusters. They've discussed the possibility before...
  3. Actually, he was a Marine. Force Recon, I believe. Changes to comic characters in movies don't bug me much. If it's done well, I can overlook it. The same thing has happened in the comics themselves for years. Take Batman for example...
  4. Goo Gone has worked for me without issues too. The only problem is you have to clean the greasy residue off, but it's minor issue.
  5. What do you not like about the gearbox? IIRC, they changed the gearbox on MY2008 (along with other things), but I'm still curious. If it were a GS it wouldn't be a base, would it? I'd love to get a GS, but I don't know if I'd be able to afford it. I'll find out soon though...
  6. I might be in the market soon for a newer car and have been considering a Vette. It would probably be the base coupe. If you know of a comparable car in the same price range (high 40's to mid 50's new, low to mid 30's used) that offers equal to better performance, I would be interested in it. What's terrible about them? They offer incredible performance for the price. The recent C6 seems to be heavily praised. Hell, even the guys at Top Gear have liked them.
  7. Does anyone have a link for it on amazon.co.jp? I still have to get the VF-25 master file...
  8. The Arcturians were probably regular humans. Thie name "Arcturian" just happened to be the nationality/ethnicity/culture/political group they were identified by. IIRC, there were a few brief mentions of Arctrurians in the Colonial Marines Technical Manual which insinuated this; however, I don't know if it's canon.
  9. I'd rather watch something that takes place before the prequels or after the OT. What happened in between the trilogies is the least interesting time period to me.
  10. I still hope they make a sequel to Resolute. And a Blu-ray release of the first one would be nice too.
  11. I used to find him annoying, but I got a kick out of the time he fought a terminator during the breaks. With an action figure of him, I guess the battle can continue.
  12. Watch the DVD? Where's the fun in that?
  13. The best player EVER? That would probably be the Pioneer HLD-X0, which was only available in Japan. Unfortunately, it's rather pricey and costs (I think) a couple thousand dollars. The X0 is also not that easy to find and is very heavy. The next step down is probably the Pioneer HLD-X9, which was also only available in Japan and is not much cheaper. Unlike the X0, the X9 can also play both sides automatically. Both players, with a special decoder box, are capable of playing MUSE HD LaserDiscs. The best player released in the U.S. on the other hand is generally considered the Pioneer CLD-97, followed by the CLD-99. These are bit more affordable in comparison, but are still somewhat expensive. I believe they still go for a few hundred dollars these days (I payed around $500 for my mint in box 97 a couple of years ago). The picture quality isn't as good as the aforementioned Japanese models though. They also can't play MUSE discs. Now when you hook up the player, you'll want to connect to a display or (better yet) a video processor with a good 3D comb (or Y/C) filter via a composite cable. You don't want to use S-Video unless the comb filter in your player is better than the one in you display or processor. I'd also recommend checking out the AVS forum, as they have a number of informative threads about LDs. I remember there being a couple of good LD websites that have info on this tuff, but unfortunately I don't know where I saved the links. If I find them, I'll post them.
  14. They've apparently shot two versions of a scene with Theron doing push ups: one clothed and one nude.
  15. That's an often recommended method. Low frequency sound is supposed to be non-directional. A poorly placed woofer, however, can cause the sound to become directional. Minimizing or eliminating this is the first priority. The best way to determine this is basically what your friend suggested. Due to how much rooms can vary, this is the best method short of specialized equipment and software. After you've done that, you'll have to fine tune the placement, so to speak. That's when you focus on the sound of the woofer itself (dull, boomy, muddy, etc.) in regards to position. And once that's done, you'll want to calibrate it as well.
  16. Interestingly enough, the comics actually explored this a bit. In fact, Aliens: Apocalypse: The Destroying Angels was almost entirely focused on the space jockeys. Either way, I'm interested in Ridley's take on it.
  17. I think the fact that it has enough Alien elements on the surface should be enough to attract a larger audience. Even if most people don't make the connections, it should bear enough resemblance to draw people in.
