sh9000 Posted April 18, 2025 Posted April 18, 2025 Brief shot of Maul - Shadow Lord at the end of the video. Quote
Dynaman Posted April 18, 2025 Posted April 18, 2025 I can already see the Disney World ride for this and hear the song "It's a Maul World..." Quote

Dynaman Posted January 22 Posted January 22 A trailer for a trailer? About as fun as being made to watch ads youtube when watching a trailer for a movie... Quote
Seto Kaiba Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Dave Filoni starting as he means to go on. Dave, this is the third time you've brought back Darth Maul for show and tell. Please bring something else next time. Quote
Bolt Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Darth Maul is cool . And a crowd pleaser . But we pretty much have his whole story from Phantom Menace and on. It will be interesting to see what this turns out to be. Quote
Big s Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Maul should have just stayed dead. Once you’re chopped in half and dumped down a hole, that should have been done. Quote

Considering he's been cut in half like... three times now? Yeah, probably. Eighty percent of his dialog is just him screaming "KEN-O-BIIIIIIIIII!" like he's off his rocker and the rest is him trying to persuade people he's totally sane and someone you should join or work for in the least convincing manner possible. 13 minutes ago, Bolt said: Darth Maul is cool . TangledThorns Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Looks great and I'm sure we'll watch but come on... this is only moar milking. Quote
Seto Kaiba Posted January 22 Posted January 22 48 minutes ago, sh9000 said: OK, so... the key takeaway is that this is one for the "Another Bloody" file. Specifically, another bloody Dave Filoni Star Wars: the Clone Wars spinoff series set in the early years of the Empire in which a legacy character from The Clone Wars takes a young force-sensitive under their wing to keep the Empire from getting their hands on them. The same thing we've seen before in... Rebels, The Bad Batch, and several of the Tales short anthologies. This is truly the new management starting as they mean to go on. Quote
lochness Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Admittedly, I know little of the lore surrounding Darth Maul but is he now an anti-hero? Is he now against the Empire too? Quote

Is he now against the Empire too? Yes. Basically Maul wants revenge against everyone that did him wrong. Obi-Wan for cutting him in half, Palpatine for abandoning him, and Lola who blocked him on Instagram. Edited January 22 by TangledThorns Quote
Mog Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Dude tried to set up an underworld empire with some Mandalorians as his primary muscle/back-up. But this was during the later seasons of Clone Wars. I wouldn’t call him an anti-hero necessarily. More like a pissed-off cast-off. So, this series most likely takes place while he’s trying to set-up/continue his criminal enterprises (like what we saw at the end of the Solo movie). But will most likely be set before the Rebels timeframe. Quote

Is he now against the Empire too? I'd call him more of a Villain Protagonist at this point... and he's not so much against the Empire as just Palpatine's most dedicated hater. Spoiler Star Wars: the Clone Wars retconned his death in Episode I to being Not Quite Dead, having him come back with a cybernetic lower half to be a scenery-chewing menace and hardcore jobber who desperately wants revenge on Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Sideous. He gets beat up, put back together by his (literal) mommy, dabbles in being a crime lord for a bit, gets effortlessly REKT by Palpatine, takes over Mandalore with the help of terrorists, gets REKT by Ahsoka, escapes during Order 66, does a bit more crime lord-y stuff, then loses out to his obsession with revenge and ends up dead at Obi-Wan's hands while looking for the key to defeating Palpatine. This series looks to be his fourth (chronologically third?) attempt to recruit Someone Else's Apprentice to be his right hand man in his revenge quest against Palpatine. The other three were his literal brother, Ahsoka Tano, and Ezra Bridger. Quote
derex3592 Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Mehhh--- Looks cool enough, I love Maul so I'm in for something new to watch, (on my brother in law's D+ account) --- LOL Quote

Yeah that's the armor from Bad Batch the Empire started using on the clone trained normal human troops. I like Filoni, and his characters, only thing I thought was a bit mediocre was the Ashoka series, other than that I enjoy pretty much all his work. I'll definitely be watching this one, love me some Maul, and I still enjoy seeing stories and characters in this era, I'm absolutely in. Quote
Big s Posted January 22 Posted January 22 If this is coming out in April and Wonderman is next week, is there anything on D+ between those two shows? Quote
Hikuro Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Well I for one am looking forward to it. Buddy and I watched the trailer and I think he was actually more excited over it than I was. Quote
Dynaman Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Since it is an animated show I'll compare it to the animated shows so far. At least the trailer looks good and they didn't try to make Maul a hero (protagonist yes but it does not appear they did to him what happened to Boba Fett). The animation detail has come a considerable way as well. SO, since I still have D+ I'll be watching it. Quote
derex3592 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 This one is definitely going to be watched when wifey is out of the house and I can crank up the 5.1 Dolby Atmos. The last season of Clone Wars was a tour de force of video and sound, so I'm expecting this to be no less AND in 4K, yeh, it's gonna be fun to watch and listen to! Quote
Seto Kaiba Posted January 24 Posted January 24 (edited) 58 minutes ago, davidwhangchoi said: will this have Ray Park? Nope. Sam Witwer is reprising his role as the voice of Darth Maul in Maul: Shadow Lord. He previously voiced Darth Maul in Star Wars: the Clone Wars, Star Wars: Rebels, and some Lego Star Wars projects. His voice was also dubbed over Ray Park's for Maul's cameo appearance in Solo: a Star Wars Story. EDIT: I've seen some claims saying Disney might've cut ties with Park after a social media scandal a few years ago. No idea if that's true. They didn't use him for mocap in Rebels, because that series didn't use mocap. Edited January 24 by Seto Kaiba Quote
electric indigo Posted January 24 Posted January 24 I'll probably watch it purely for the animation style. The art is gorgeous. Some old school elements hidden there: Quote
