areaseven Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 (edited) Walt Disney Pictures announced that Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is in the works. Johnny Depp has already confirmed his return as Captain Jack Sparrow; how much he'll earn for this is currently unknown. Geoffrey Rush will also reprise his role as Captain Hector Barbossa. For this project, Disney hands the director's chair to Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, the duo behind the Academy Award nominated film Kon-Tiki. For those unfamiliar with that movie, watch the trailer below: The new Pirates film has a projected release date of July 7, 2017.Raise a Black Flag! Dynaman Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 That last one was a real snooze fest, it is a new director so I might give this one a shot.
mechaninac Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 As much of a "snooze fest" the last one was, I actually found On Stranger Tides far more enjoyable than the train wreck that was At World's End. The first is still the best, the second was mediocre at best, the third is nigh unwatchable, and the fourth is passable -- not great, but not horrible either. Here's hoping the fifth installment will come close to capturing the quality of the first one... and they better have Barbosa in this new romp; excluding Sparrow, he's the most entertaining character of the franchise.
EXO Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 There can be only one! And even then the first one should have finished without the rescue scene at the end. After that PotC has been an convoluted mess.

But then again, he starred in The Green Hornet... Christoph Waltz Linked to Pirates of the Caribbean 5, More Plot Details Revealed
Uxi Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Worth a shot. Relatively fresh genre and lots of story and I do enjoy Depp's Jack Sparrow.
Chronocidal Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 I have to point out that, given the situations most of the characters have found themselves in from time to time, the title itself is clearly a lie.
renegadeleader1 Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 I just wish they'd bring Norrington back. Killing him the way they did sucked the heart out of the third film.
areaseven Posted January 22, 2015 Author Posted January 22, 2015 I just wish they'd bring Norrington and the Kraken back. Killing them the way they did sucked the heart out of the third film. Fixed.
areaseven Posted January 25, 2015 Author Posted January 25, 2015 Kaya Scodelario Boards Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean 5 In other news, Johnny Depp's latest film is living proof that January is where movies go to die. Mortdecai Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 12% Metacritic Score: 27 out of 100
Roy Focker Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 I've seen them all and only remember what happens in #1. The rest are so boring and forgettable you lose interest watching them.
Thom Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Well, of the series the characters I liked the most were Turner and Swann. Got rid of them, got rid of me.
EXO Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Got lucky with the first. The rest just proved they shouldn't make movies about rides.
Guest davidwhangchoi Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 wonder if this will have more sequels than Friday the 13th... but i bet it makes quarter to half a billion globally.
505thAirborne Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Still haven't even seen 4... You didn't miss out on much!

spanner Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 meh.. my gf loves Johnny Depp so it's probably inevitable that I'll end up watching it at some stage.
TangledThorns Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 A yo-ho-ho and I don't care for pirate movies no more.
jvmacross Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 One ride through the actual POTC ride usually makes me forget the worst parts of the films (mainly every one after the first one)......take too many rides and I start remembering how much better the ride was before the POTC films....
Dynaman Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Could be worse, what they did to the Tiki-Tiki room is unforgivable.
Graham Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 The only POTC movie that I have been able to sit through without falling asleep is the first one, which I actually liked. The rest, I've never made it though the whole movie, whether watching in the cinema or at home. They are a great cure for insomnia!
