That's a nice Death Star you got there.

Are you aware of this expensive, but neat decal set: https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10714360?

_

I learned that Nudelman-Richter is not a William Gibson novel device to weed human-looking androids from the general population, but a brand of soviet  30mm AA cannons. The kit had just two stumps of plastic molded to the wing's edge, so I had to make my own barrels from a small plastic rod.

I also installed the drop tanks and the signature B-8M rocket pods.

I'm a big fan of Gibson's hyphenated foreign conglomerates, but I do not recall that story arc .

I was alluding to Blade Runner's Voight-Kampff machine, but Gibson is the king of conglomerate branding.

Macross does have some multi-national conglomerates of its own.

Thank you guys, I appreciate it! It's fun to be back on styrene work and off metal work.

Peter - All tjhat time soaking and that's all the paint that came off!? That's too bad. You'll make it look good. But does it smell good too?:D

Derex - The DS is looking cool.

Electric Indigo - You're making that Russian plane look too good! - MT

That's coming out nice! That looks really difficult.  Nice to see another SB Yamato fan here.  I'm working on making this Murasame class so I can print it in 1/350 scale to go along with my other ships.

Very cool! Will be neat to see it being printed out.

Work will slow a little on mine, as there is a Trek Wars Contest on at SSM.

I heard that on the studio model, those plates were actually decals because they didn't want to permanently damage the model.

Considering the size, you could probably do the same thing. Or just use adhesive backed paper cut to shape and stuck on.

I couldn't get 100% of the paint off, but at least I got most of my grade 8 brush strokes off.  I'll accept the remainder as texture.  Anyway, Klingon ships shouldn't be too pretty, lol!

So, I have two K'Tingas, and I'm starting to remember one of them mght have been a garage sale find.  I remember having two, but I don't remember building one this badly:

IMG_20200824_082347.jpg.c338492e193e1e31e2cc29049bbbe6be.jpg

IMG_20200824_083417.jpg.587d2289c1869c5a0def667f63f48754.jpg

Some serious glue chunks I need to clean up.

IMG_20200824_005728.jpg.159846bf1854bb44897f0b4e753f627b.jpg

Started sanding here and there.

IMG_20200824_094029.jpg.e282fb09549fa783306ca72472bec67c.jpg

So, I wonder how many Klingons can actually fit in that neck area when going from the bridge to the back of the ship, lol!  I guess it would make a smaller target to hit.  Anyway, the neck on one of these was broken so I had to figure out how to re-attach the bridge unit to the neck.

IMG_20200824_203044.jpg.1f0ff3d059c3d1ca2a88a8e5d3b28042.jpg

A chunk of the neck was still stuck in the bridge section so I yanked it out, and glued it back to the neck and reinforced it with a sprue.  Will find something to cap the top and stick it back in there.

I was going to reinforce it with a steel or brass rod, but I'm just going to refurbish this thing with whatever I have in the house and not go out if I don't have to.

I was going to order some Tamiya rattle cans, remembered my plan to put as little additional money into these (apart from the decals) kits as possible.

I also have a few cans of Rustoleum OD cam paint sitting on my shelf so hopefully I can dust on that stuff instead of gooping it on and losing all of the detail, lol!

Back to the Auto-Destruct Ent Refit, I just noticed on the studio model that the impulse appears to be missing:

I had a bit of time last night to work on my SV-51 a bit more.

Did most of the underside except the canards and the shoulders because they are partially obscured by the legs and wouldn't look right if I only did the areas that were currently exposed. I'll wait a few days for the clearcoat to cure and see if it will hopefully withstand transformation.

sv-51_wip3.jpg.5a58aa08320f66c068bd5cd83918c048.jpg

Also tinted the canopy to make it like how it looks in the anime. Initially, I thought just a light tinting should be fine, but now that I look at the reference screenshots I took, the canopy does seem like it should be more saturated and darker. So I think I may just do that... add another layer of orange tinting and then some clear black/smoke. Hopefully that will get it to where I want it.

Peter - Are you sure maybe you didn't glue that together after a few shots of whiskey? Uh oh, the hardware is coming out again...

Macross Junkie - Don't do it! You'll mess up your BEAUTIFUL finish. But then why get a transforming model, right? - MT

If you look near the bottom of Memory Alpha's page, they have info on this one and what happened to the impulse engines:

https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Constitution_class_model_(refit)

Not to mention, the AMT model is accurate in the sense it was screen used:

Quote

The fate of Magicam's small filming model notwithstanding, it was certain that the model was never used again, since ILM, apparently unaware of its existence, built a new smaller Enterprise model for Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, using a by then available AMT/Ertl-model kit, number S970. "In fact we used one of the AMT kits to build this little model of the Enterprise, which has about a twelve inch diameter dome. We actually put lights in it and used it in instances where we had to be far away from the ship. With the big model, you can't get too far away and make it look far away – it always looks big. So we used that one for anything where we wanted the ship real small," Don Dow (brother of Magicam's Jim Dow) remembers. (Cinefex, issue 18, 1984, p. 63) Intricately detailed and lit by ILM, measuring 22 inches in length, the model saw use from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan through Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, with the exception of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

Wow. So much going on here!

Electric Indigo,  looking solid and smooth ( as always) someday I'll be patient enough in the early stages to get the paint down that smooth.

Gabe Q nice job on that VF-1 how are you planning to mount it?

Convectuoso, I can't get over how great that little kit looks after you've had your way with it. Almost makes me want one for myself.

Peter, you are a gluten for punishment! Those look like they're from a Klingon starship graveyard. Hey ZOMBIE K'TINGAS!

Greyson, man you make me wish I'd stuck it out when I was trying to teach myself 3D modeling back in 2006. Looking forward to seeing more.

Macross Junkie. Hope the transformation process goes smoothly man. Got my fingers crossed for ya.

Made some progress on the Legioss Eta. Just about ready for decals. I'm glad I switched out the lumpy pilot blobs that came with the kit for some modified 1:100 scale figures. I dry assembled one of my Wave 1:100 VF-1 kits to compare and I think the Legioss scales better at 1:100 than the stated 1:72. Anime stats be damned!20200825_202627.jpg.74a003265af60cdc8dae85a7488d8277.jpg

Speaking of Leigoss, I recently dug a project from some time back out of the archives. I don't know if I posted it here or not, but it's worth a shot, right?

I did a 1/48 scale Monogram Leader-1:

399494952_103_14301.JPG.7b42e089ffb76d99dae50bd3fcab5190.JPG103_1432.JPG.8c0d4bc65f85fcc870f7e7d1d80f7b24.JPG

Well...it is a Monagram model... and it is a model of Leader-1:

103_1433.JPG.089a0e1bb1e5469d3eb714d3b526348e.JPG103_1434.JPG.6a59846a4ac525debde219795c95a539.JPG

I kit-bashed a 1/48 scale model Strike Eagle I found at a thrift store with a few loose knockoff Transformer parts I had in reserve. Although i had to make some concessions to get it to work, I think it works pretty well.

I even did a concept piece for  "Masterpiece Leader-1" box-art:

2128918356_GobotsLeader-1MasterpieceCoverFinal.jpg.4f3a6ec57ba7fc86e82122b18687598f.jpg

Everything but the "Go Bots" and "Tonka" logo were done from scratch.

One day, I hope to find a Leader-1 model kit from the 80's. until then, I've got this.

I just redid the canopy. Cleaned off my previous try and sprayed it straight orange and then black over top of it.

I think it looks more like in the anime now. What do you guys think? Looks about right? I'm also trying to account for the fact that most of the battles where I can get a clear look at the canopy were at night so things would be darker.

sv-51_ep1_2.jpg.43028aa837007b5d20feabfa9e9b868e.jpg

20200826_014108.jpg.d6025ef3fe082da0e5034b22a3241746.jpg

Also, argh... stupid tamiya tape pulled off bits of the clear coat when I masked off the area around the canopy. Not sure if I just didn't spray on a thick enough layer or what. Using the Vallejo Mecha gloss varnish instead of Future which I've not used previously and have had no prior experience with. Hopefully it's just that I didn't apply enough. Well, respray and pray...

One of the K'Tingas is missing parts so what I'll do is work the look into battle damage.  I always envisioned Klingon ships to be well worn and a bit beat up from combat.

You did all this in just a few months? That would be about 3 years of work for me.

Nice work. There is nothing wrong with your decals. They're perfect. But if you mean you don't want them to look new, you need to add them before the lining and weathering.
