Message Boards vs Social Media

I prefer forums, especially this one. I've never met any of you in person but oddly enough, just about all of you feel like people I'd hang out with. Social media like FB was kind of cool in the beginning, now it's just a black hole of weirdos, bots, AI trolls doing their best to stir up anger & political division no matter what you post. I used FB for years for my Helmet business but deleted the entire account a few years ago, the SPAM and troll/bot accounts became more that I wanted to deal with. Twitter (not calling it the current name) was a dumpster fire by 2020, I can't imagine what it's like now. Instagram is decent but I pretty much avoid that one too. This forum and a few others have felt like a home away from home for years now, a major thank you to @Shawn for keeping MW alive & well. In the end this Forum rules, we're all a bunch of Macross, Anime, Sci-Fi, fantasy, toy collecting, model building, art loving fans, dorks, nerds and some cool kids mixed together. I'll take this every day over a social media site with billions of strangers and bots. Stay classy everyone!! -
Looks great, weathering and detailing black is always tough and you did a good job of it

If it's any reference.... I just had the DX VF19 and PLAMAX VF1S shipped.... it was expensive AF. 11,715 Yen to ship via FEX with an additional 10,613 Yen on customs fees.

Anger makes people more engaged unfortunately. You could be checking on something about wholesome animals, then they start feeding you clips of goats getting knocked off a cliff by an eagle when all you really wanted to see was a cow playing soccer with a bale of hay

Message Boards vs Social Media

I am new to this forum and wish I had discovered it sooner. I don't use social media for communication because it just isn't my cup of tea, especially the younger generation and their "Say anything and get away with it" mindset. I remember the days of 1200 baud modems, running a BBS and early forums. I do appreciate the adult conversation on this forum about movies, toys and models. Thank you to all the original members for creating a place of knowledge and insight about a topic of my childhood. Have a great weekend and be safe. MB - Today

Got all the decals finished up on the SR-71 this morning, and NO, those long red no step lines were NOT any fun at all! I took this picture to show you guys the "before" pic... LOL. Before I try to use oils to weather this thing... I could stop here, blend coat, matte coat and call it a day but where's the fun in that?! 😁 Already cranking right along on the new Academy 1/144 B2. Fantastic kit so far. Zero complaints. All you need to build it is pictured. Academy stepping up the game with all doors and hatches for in flight mode that fit absolutely perfect 👌. Honestly I'm amazed. It's like Bandai perfect. 😯😳

Look who I spotted in the 1987 Savie Toy Catalog. Tai Fong had this very same VF related toy at the same time in 1984.

Good, thanks for asking. My daughter's at a point where I have to watch YouTube videos about how to do math just to help her with her homework...😆 -

The problem with discord is the lack of threaded conversations. It all ends up in one big jumble. I hate that. Old message boards could get away with that since there were far fewer people on them. (I think there was an option to view conversations in a threaded manner but I don't remember it doing much) The problem with social media sites (all of them I am aware of) is they work best by fueling anger - things that make you angry get pumped to your feed in ever greater numbers. Unlike the old days of mass media the companies doing this are not held responsible for content that appears on their site. Partly due to the laws shielding them early in the nineties and partly due to claiming it is just an "algorithm".

That's the thing.. I've tried. I signed up for every DHL online tracking account I possibly could, I registered my address, phone, email, and any other info I could with them, and nothing works. I established that account, signed the "please deliver when I'm not here" waiver, and then none of my packages show up as valid, if they even show up at all. It's like nothing going to my address is actually inside their main system. When I tried to manage my delivery through the website for this package, the tracking number threw an error saying it wasn't even valid. I really have no clue what is wrong with DHL in my area, but it is absolutely incomprehensible how absolutely nothing works about their website. I'm just at a complete loss. This is why I avoid using them if there is any other option.

You know you're getting old when you prefer forums to Discord, lol. That being said, I stay on forums because going to Discord feels like starting over in a community. Reddit is different as I go there more for help and advice rather than discussions. Facebook groups are mostly derp, even for my local community groups (eg cars, town). I also see this old vs young age related tech issue with gaming too. Interesting times. -
Still yet to receive the Tread, but should have it quite soon. Agreed on the pilots - if it would cost say, just a few hundred yen more for Sentinel to have them painted, I would gladly pay that price.

From my investigation, the head fits snugly in the cavity in fighter mode. However, extending the torso causes the cavity to move as it's on a slider separate from the head. If the torso gets extended while the head is in that cavity, it gets misaligned and scrapes the sharp points on the head like the tip of the red fin or black head crest and maybe the face. So, when extending the torso from fighter mode, it's best to raise the head first. That's also why the neck cover splits when in Gerwalk mode. The head can't sit properly in the cavity and puts pressure on the neck cover.

Have you gotten a Tread yet? Back to the Legioss, Sentinel did do a bunch of nice tweaks to really compact the fighter mode and to shrink down the length of the nosecone in soldier mode. Yeah, it's a bit of a messy underside. But at least, it sorta makes sense that the intakes and exhaust all follow one straight path. Also, really wish they had painted the pilots.

"Mai" first 1/6 figure. Get it? Mai instead of my, lol. Anyway, those pictures aren't of mine, but you guys get the point. That's the prettiest, sexiest version of Mai Shiranui I've ever seen, so I had to have her. This the 1/6 Ninja Cat...- 848 replies

Duties, or just regular sales tax? Pretty much everything gets hit for domestic sales tax, whether it's coming by Canada Post or another carrier, while toys and stuff are normally zero extra duty or anything as far as I can tell (unless you were just ordering from the US, then I have no idea what the tariff situation actually is right now). And when you get your sales tax bill, every carrier will charge a brokerage/service fee. Canada Post charges ten bucks, every other carrier is more but if you think DHL's is egregious, try UPS sometime. It seems like DHL's fee will almost always be the minimum threshold amount, which is maybe nine bucks more than Canada Post. If you live near a major CBSA office, you can also file the paperwork yourself and avoid the fee. DHL's up-front actual shipping cost also always seems to be higher than any regular post options, but that's another matter. I've never actually seen a separate up-front handling fee like that, I wonder if it has something to do with the current situation shipping to the US and filing those tariffs specifically.

I feel now as I did then: I'd rather talk to some of you guys on here, or maybe even on social media, than the people I have to face in every day life. How's the family, Mike?

Lol. Look at all of us old-timers in here, lamenting the relentless march of time. I'll never forget my first post on macrossworld, asking about the tail fins on my V1 Yamato YF-21. I would spend HOURS on here for the next decade or so...
