I absolutely love his statement in the teaser.

"After 40 years, we asked, 'What do the fans want?'

But instead, we're making this movie."

If only the ST had been so bold.

Also love they're targeting it for the 50th.  Just poetry.

I would have been excited for this if not for that dreadful History of the World show.  If it gets good reviews I may see it at the theater but will probably be waiting for netflix, amazon, etc...

I am totally tickled

There's so much newer awful SW content to make fun of, they're going to have a hayday :p

Can't wait!

Nice, haven’t seen Rick in anything in years, maybe decades

I hope they don’t do a recast, but a fun memorial instead

Same; although maybe a "Dot 2.0" or something may be good if handled the right way.

He moved away from the industry after the death of his wife in 91, in order to better care for their kids. The last time I heard anything about him was in 2020 when he was assaulted while walking down a street in Manhattan.

I remember that incident, I also think there was an interview over his old show anniversary a few years back. But not much else

That definitely wouldn’t be as bad as a straight recast

Right? And it would allow for the new version to have her own persona and idiosyncrasies, so a new actress (or actor, since it may be a "son") could make that role truly their own.

Just as long as she has a red arm...

Just re-watched SPACEBALLS on MAX, still got some chuckles from it. My young children were casually watching it with me while on their tablets and were kinda confused by the film thinking it was a weird Star Wars film and had to explain to them it was a spoof, lol.

It's like watching reactions to Airplane. The younger audiences don't get the 'deeper' jokes.😁

Part of the issue is also that those movies were pastiches of even older movies, to when you go watch them, you really don't have a built-in cultural reference for why they're supposed to be funny.

It helps that I grew up watching a lot of that stuff, but at the same time I can honestly say I remember Scary Movie 3 far better than any of the movies it actually makes fun of.

Sometimes it’s better if they don’t get some of those jokes. Gotta feel bad for the kid that understands why that guy was asking a child if he likes gladiator movies 😞

Had to look it up but had no idea that SPACEBALLS was rate PG, it had a lot of sex innuendo and adult language including one F bomb. "I bet she gives great helmet", lol.

On a slight note I can see why it took so long to make a proper sequel as we have had lots of STAR WARS spoofs in recent decades. Notably from ROBOT CHICKEN and Family Guy.

Pg13 these days kinda replaced the old pg standard. Not sure if the first Spaceballs movie was before the change. Clash of the Titans had a lot of stuff that would be in an R rating today and that also had a pg rating. That movie had gore and occasional nudity throughout the movie. I think clash was 81, again not really sure when the change in the ratings system hit

According to wikipedia, PG-13 as July 1 1984:
