So what's the general consensus on the Macross II VF-2 SS? I'm trying to decide whether to get the Fire VF-19 with Sound Booster or the VF-2 SS next.

Personal preference. The Hi Metal R VF-2SS is a nice toy IMO. But if you're into Bassara or M7...

Honestly, I just started watching Macross 7. While I appreciated Macross II, I usually just collect the mecha from SDFM and DYRL. I just wanted to add something different.

I love m7 and Bassara. But i don't really care for the fire Valkyrie. I much prefer the VF-2 SS. Most people are probably gonna go with the Fire Valkyrie though.

Agreed, VF-2SS is way more of a unique design.

Doesn't matter if one gets the VF-2SS first or the 19 Kai. Because whichever you get first, the other will come next. 

Engineering wise they are pretty different. The 19 Kai in Fighter lock very solidly all around, but a lot of the VF-2SS is just held together by joint strength in Fighter. It's not really a big issue for a naked walk since the toy is small enough / not heavy to overcome the joints, but once you put on the packs, then handling in Fighter is like a grenade and it is very, very easy to nudge stuff out of position.

I'd still edge towards to the VF-2SS primarily for its design uniqueness. But don't wait too long to get the 19 Kai, since it's still below retail now. The HMR 0D which was also below retail for some time has now finally turned the corner & price has started increasing.

You're right about that. I ended up getting the VF-19 since it's so cheap right now.

Now, now. If you only added budget in your concern earlier on and not just which one to get, most of us have said get the VF-19Kai since it's recent and widely available than VF-2SS. But just between us, I will still choose Silvie's ride.

I kind of cheated and got the VF-19, a DYRL VF-1A Super, and a SDFM VF-1A Max. It was my delusional  way of "saving" money.

I'm digging the VF-19. Everything about it is pretty impressive. The figure is solid and even the box is is an upgrade to the older paper-thin HMR packaging.

I finally transformed my 0D to fighter mode for the first time and I'm in love! Have always preferred two seaters. I like how it's so solid and "swooshable" in this mode. This is now my second fav toy after my OG yammie VF-22S. 

Do think that 1/100 is my fav size now. I still wish for Bandai to come up with a YF-21, but after not liking the fighter mode planform on both the HG kit and Chogokin versions, I'm okay if they don't ever. The inaccuracy and short forward fuselage really irked me lol, because it's my favourite valk design (well, the 22S is, but same same).

Yeah, I been buying a lot of HMR recently and I’m finding them more fun than the DX Chogokin for playability.

I'm on the other side of that. It's easier to transform 1/48 when you have big hands and Carpal Tunnel.

I feel your pain. Sometimes I get gout on my wrist and it hurts like hell. At that point I can’t even pick up or handle anything heavier than a piece of paper.

0D in fighter is definitely a beauty. Transformed mine to fighter as soon as I got it. Would love an HMR 21/22 too. But my new favorite in fighter is the VF-4. I never truly was able to appreciate its beauty until I got one that I could stare at and admire pretty much everyday. 

Speaking of the VF-4... while my local preorder for the HMR is taking its sweet time getting here via slow boat, I managed to snag one online for only $75 with free shipping from Japan. 

Will open it up later. Love the box design. I keep catching myself staring at Misa, lol. I wish this came with an alternate backdrop with Misa on it.

HMRs for play, 1/60s for display. This is happy compromise for getting duplicates across scales.
