  1. 1. If you lived in Japan would you pre-order a VF-4?

    • I would pre-order but I'm not sure I can afford it.
    • Yes I would pre-order, but I would only buy it if it was under $300 (about 24000円).
    • I would pre-order it and buy it at any price.
    • I would pre-order it just to bump the numbers, but won't actually buy it.

You know what now the back ground info needs to change on the VF-4G per mech manual only differance between VF-4G and VF-4 is engine swap, but with SK approval of VFX model there is now an aerodynamics change as well.

It's a bit more than that... :

  • VF-4A: First production model.
  • VF-4B: Two-seater attack enhanced model. Since the VF-4 isn't used for electronic warfare, even though the rear seat is for an electronic warfare officer, it is primarily used as a training plane.
  • VF-4C: atmospheric flight specified model. It's primary ability is to be functionally both inside and outside of atmosphere.
  • VF-4D: C model modified to navy (ship airplane) specification. Although space inside the main body was increased with the removal of equipment needed for space operation, due to it's inferior mobility, it is mainly used for purposes other than dog fighting; such as interception and warship attacking via missile.
  • VF-4S: D model modified specification for atmospheric use only. S (SEA) is Marine. Measures to protect the engines against damage from salt water, etc., have been taken.
  • VF-4SL "lightly equipped type": omits the arms and one part of the transformation mechanism of the S type; specializes as an anti-ship attacker and ambush craft. Cannot transform into battroid and can only transform into an arm-less GERWALK. Many of these craft were loved by the Unified Forces Emigrant Fleet Escort Units.
  • VF-4G: latest type in the series with a strengthened space warfare capability; the original [intended] use of the VF-4. The engines, avionics, particle beam gun, etc., have been updated with the latest technology. Has an upgraded head unit with an anti-aircraft laser. In service in 2047 in the Special Service Force Ravens.

Even though it was Kawamori himself who designed the anti-aircraft head I don't think that's official line art, otherwise Yamato should've had to use it.

If memory serves, that head design was specifically created for the Studio Half-Eye garage kit. As Yamato only has the licence for VF-X, and this alternative command specification head didn't appear in it, this toy won't have it.

Alas, it doesn't clarify if the alternative head is part of the official setting or not.

It's be nice to see a painted up version of the Battroid as well. It's definitely a subtle scheme. Very low viz like. This could wind up being a dream for people who like to paint their own schemes... except for the price/availability.

It still appears to be a prototype that is being propped up but note that the thigh is angled backward a little bit. You may be right about it's weight distribution. Though they may find ways to lighten it's load now that they've got these things assembled/standing. One would hope anyway.

Wow! That fighter looks fantastic. Thanks for sharing EXO. I guess you'd have to paint the entire thing white for the FB2012 custom (or is it just the moveable surfaces?) - or maybe keep the grey and do a low-viz version maybe where you'd only have to paint the tails.

I just hope we can get our hands on one of these beauties here in Canada without too much of a markup.

Fantastic! This weekend can not come fast enough so we will finally know price and possibly be able to start pre-ordering.

Thanks for the pic EXO.

I wouldn't really be upset if it did need a stand. Ive always had some doubts about it.

Oh no, not obligatory stands. Ever since my experience with handling the Aquarion SOCs i've developed a phobia! Although with this i too prefer the fighter mode so don't mind very much!
