My initial opinion is that despite the build up from ep 13, this did not compare as well to episode 7. I actually liked episode 7 better even though this one was grander in scale. I thought the song that went along with the battle seem a bit forced and inappropriate. Obviously, given the Bandai involvement, I'm guessing this episode is designed to sell toys. Special packs for Alto, Alto VF-25 armored, VF-25 armored with reaction missiles, VF-17 with reaction missiles. I think that's about all of them. That said, this was still a good episode despite the reused animation, but it could've been so much better. Interesting points: - Did the bridge bunnies just tell Cathy that Bobby is interested in Ozma? If I heard that right, Cathy's reaction is well guarded. - As someone pointed out, Sheryl's poor piloting save her and Mikhail's lives. Neat, I'm more impressed with Sheryl every day, she gives me Misa vibes, and Ranka definitely has more Minmei vibes. - For such a broad fleet action, they actually had lots of useless character development, I'm sorry, I don't like Nanasei, or whatever the hell her name is, she's dead to me. Any time focused on her is wasted. My take is either they focus in on fleet action, and there could've been more done, even considering the small budget or do all these personal human interest stories, don't do both. - As for Luca, dude, you're frigging rich, just do her and get it over with, and move on to someone else, this childish "I'll return" crap is lame. We all know you're the evil genius behind Grace. Drop the innocent act. - Grace is alive... YES.... ok, I'm sorry if I seem a bit excited, but she's one cold hearted villain I can live with, it's the quiet ones that gets you. I'm sure Grace will have a story in mind for Sheryl or anyone else who asks. (Please don't disappoint me, Grace) - What the hell is this with Alto's armored VF-25? I swore he must have ejected three sets of parts, and was still loaded for bear when he blew up the Vajra queen. - Got great DYRL vibes when Alto blew up the Vajra queen, just like when Hikaru assassinated Boldolza. - The Vajra, did I miss something or did they turn stupid. When their ships came from behind, their battleships fired one shot each, and look like they didn't fire any more. Like they were waiting for Ranka to start singing. In the time it took for Alto to load up reaction missiles, they should have ripped Frontier to little pieces. They shot once and then stopped. - And what happened to the Vajra fleet that was in front? Were they wiped out already? - What's up with Leon? He was just smiling along the entire episode, like he was expecting the Vajra to be dumb and not blow up Frontier after the first shot. - As for Brera, ok, we still don't know anything about Galaxy, it could be destroyed, if it was, Brera can claim whatever he wants, how would anyone know the difference. Hi, I'm Brera, I'm from Megaroad, we've been out of touch for decades, but here I am in my brand new VF-27. - In my estimation, Brera was following Grace's orders exactly when he rescued Ranka. Like I said, Grace is one calculating bitch, what a babe... - I wonder what the funny crystals are about. It'll be interesting if they have a decent stories for it. I do hope they show more VF-17I and make them at least not so much of a grunt unit. If they keep doing that, I'll start thinking that I'm watching Gundam or something. I think overall, this episode raised up a few more questions. I'm definitely don't think it was better than ep 7 in spite of the build up. Major Focker Posted July 11, 2008 Share Posted July 11, 2008 after the initial rush, i can't help but feel a bit disappointed now at the wasted potential this juncture of the story had. it really could've used the 2 episode treatment similar to how they built up the tension from episode 6 to 7. the way it went, there were nearly equal parts character drama and mecha porn, but there wasn't really enough space to cram both together and do it justice. the first half pacing was fairly reasonable, but the latter half was just a mad dash to the finish. this episode could've ended with the MS appearing behind the Frontier just as they were starting to turn the tide. in between, they could've shown some pixie bonding at a bar, leon suppressing information about the sudden loss of communication from Galia4, bridge bunnies teasing cathy how ozma was in bed and badgering her why she hooked up with leon, diamond squad in the hangar with the flight leader egging the squad "gentlemen, we fight like we're not coming back" and then chiding the ground crew over private comms "you sure these rounds will penetrate their armor this time?", luca having an actual tussle with the vajra (flashbacks to nanase's doubts about his skill) before being cornered and alto shows up, pixies and canaria divert to provide covering fire for luca and alto, klan goes apeshit after learning michel was injured, some of the diamond force actually doing kamikaze, and just when the tide seems to be turning due to their valiance and sacrifice, the MS shows up... WTH?? we get a huge ass fleet attacking Frontier, all the forces engage, Sheryl tries to scape, Luca spots them, he goes alone and is ready to get own by 3 yellow vajra, THE WHOLE FLEET IS THERE, but Alto has to magicly arrived to save them, no back up... errrrr... WTH??? Where's Battle 25??, a whole Vajra fleet is attacking, but yet, no big boom booms.... Vajra defold behind Frontier, start shooting like crazy, breach Island 1 hull, then just stop...cut scene, presidente authorized reaction weapon, cut scene, Alto is rearmed, Sheryl is floating, cut scene, Alto is sent alone with Ozma against the Vaja mothership that is no longer shooting at Frontier, boom, the pixie girl is dead, cut scene, alto screaming, cut scene, Ranka on a LSD trip, cut scene, Brera comes out of NOWHERE, and saved Ranka, Alto shoots the queen to wonderland, big explosion pushes him outside and Brera out of NOWHERE is floating aside Alto and introduces himself, cut scene, the Quarter remembers it's in the fight, fire big ass repulsion whatever, Alto and Brera are besides the Mothership, doesn't matter, boom, mothership dead, cut scene, VF-171 blow up everything, Ranka cryes...episode over... WTH??? Oh yeah, Grace is rebuilt, where? Galaxy? Frontier? LAI? The pace is quickening, we've lost a Pixie pilot, but it's nothing to flinch too far from... just feel the ebb and flow of a well structured anime. The plot thickens... considerably, if you speak Japanese, or have attached the subs the instant they came out (much thanks to Kei) BTW, this is my first post, after lurking for the better part of 3 years. Needless speculation is really fun, I'll admit listening to all of your theories is amusing... but it's just speculation. Just waiting to see what happens is the true element of active viewing. At this point, I really wouldn't be surprised if she was a clone, one commissioned by Grace or Grace's party, to fill the role Ranka has taken. Regardless, she's still my pick for the winner in the triangle. Sure Ranka's pulled some major Alto points in the last couple episodes, but she hasn't touched Sheryl's "Misa-ness." Speakign of which, did anyone ever find that full Chunky Misa Doujin?.. Considering their ability to communicate with Ranka, and that much of their technology is PC based/incluenced, I really don't understand why the Vajra can't open up a comm channel to the Frontier fleet if they wantt to talk. We know Zentradi translator's exist, so it shouldn't be "too" difficult to exchange enough information for a translator between Vajra & human languages.
