I would DEFINITELY watch that with expectations of something similar to a long Power Rangers episode.

After reading The Expanse I picked up the first Hyperion book since it is cited as an inspiration. I'm really enjoying it so far.

The Matrix Resurrections (What is The Matrix 4?)
jenius replied to TangledThorns's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Watched it last night. All of the sequels have been really bad so I had low expectations other than that there would be some good spectacle. I was a little surprised by how soft the plot was... instead of "save the world" it was "find my girlfriend." Granted, that's a perfectly valid plot for plenty of movies, but after a bunch of "save all of humanity" stuff, it took a lot of punch out of it and sort of spoke to the whole movie's watered-down nature and sometimes invented conflict. There was some spectacle though so... I'm not ANGRY I watched it.- 287 replies

A Robotech comics of Zentraedi fighting the Invid.
jenius replied to Invid99's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
This whole back and forth is still nonsense... All of it is changeable, especially when Seto builds arguments around canon original series doctrine. Robotech is a mess. The invid were feared by everyone... The Masters warn about them... I think even the Zentraedi do. Sure, they may have seemed like clumsy bugs in the show, but that doesn't mean they couldn't have been more formidable in the past or even that they're just poorly represented. Even in what we see, the REF is like "meh, we'll never beat them, let's just blow up Earth." So, if you want them to be stronger than the Zentraedi, then they were. If Seto wants them to be the weakest, that's easily arrived at also. -

It's sci Fi, you can literally have whatever you want happen. You can make the invid way more powerful than the Zentraedi... As long as you do something that explains how things get where they go. -

I don't think Robotech has a canon other than what's in the show any more. They basically went YOLO with their comics and the brand is dead. If someone were to make a comic with the Invid squaring off against the Zentraedi, it would just be best that it doesn't directly conflict with the show. Even then... I don't think anyone is minding the store, so really it's up to how flexible the readers were with whatever the comic maker peddled. -

I thought they retconned Robotech to have the Zentraedi be slaves of the Masters, designed to mine Opterra (not sure if that was the actual planet name). This was reimagined in Exosquad as the Neosapiens. The development into a fighting force being one of the triggers to get Zor to abscond with his matrix. -

A quick couple points: 1) There's no need to change the scale of existing mecha. It wouldn't happen in the exact same timeframe as Mospeada so you can introduce similar but different mecha for the Invid. The Invid are a constantly evolving species, maybe in this incarnation they evolved to be much larger based on some story element. Since Robotech canon is basically limited to the original show, there's lots of wiggle room. If the story happens later in the Robotech timeline, the Invid just need to be shown getting their butts handed to them and then deciding to go much larger. If it happened before Macross, it would be the earliest incarnation of the Invid which may have been huge to fight the Zentraedi and only got smaller when the Zentraedi left to chase Zor leaving the Masters as the main threat. 2) There's no need to change the scale anyway. Despite the cannibal crabs references, there have been plenty of stories where smaller adversaries swarm larger ones through sheer numbers. In SciFi you can absolutely make this work. -

If the IP wasn't such an issue, a Robotech Zero featuring Zor and the SDF-1 navigating that solar system and being the catalyst for all the future wars ending with Zor sending his ship to Earth could have been awesome... probably would have gotten a whole lot more love on Kickstarter also. That could have had plenty of Zentraedi on Invid violence... though it may have required punting Sentinels from the timeline (no big loss) or they could have incorporated some of those aspects and made it all work -
Love that Boba pic and that base and bioroid build. Well done!

The scales are crazy different but it'd still be fun to see. -
As Cap said, the lighting in those last photographs is too focused which causes too much of an extreme between the front of the sled and the back. It's almost as if there's an explosion going on in front of the model (which is certainly an affect you can emulate when you're going for that). For something like the competition where you really want to highlight the details, you need well diffused light. When I take shots for anymoon, I try to have a lot of diffused light coming from in front and above the toy. Then I can use a higher f-stop value to flatten out the image so there's minimal blur on the toy itself, only background items look blurred. The light is important because the higher the f-stop the darker the image. I just stick to neutral backgrounds but Cap had some great advice if you're being more artistic.

Regult scout with Regult makes a whole lot more sense... Or with a destroid... But I think the idea was to bump up sales by smuggling a toy very few people would buy with a toy lots of people would buy even at an inflated MSRP because it came with some other toy.

I just finished it last night. I LOVED what they did with Julia. For all those folks who were like "They screwed up Vicious!" it shows that it was intentional and that they were working toward diverging more from the anime as the series went on. Such a bummer of a place to leave it! Overall, I definitely liked it more than I disliked it but I would count myself only as a casual fan of the original anime so I didn't have any gospel issues to overcome.

I haven't seen any changes. One of the pics notes a step that was omitted from the user manual.

I'm sure when their production capacity was greatly reduced by Covid shut-downs and materials shortages, there were LOTS of really cool toys that got the axe in favor of the surefire winners.

All licenses are probably being renewed, one at a time, since the resolution of the HG drama and the upcoming new media. All Bandai lines, including HMR, will become a blend of WWM releases and domestic only. DX VF-1, domestic only. DX YF-19 WWM, etc. Arcadia will probably go through the process, prices may change a bit, but the big change to their agreement will be that sales anywhere will incur the licensing fee where the language previously said sales were restricted to domestic distributors and any international efforts were ground for revoking the license. Since Bandai is the big money maker, Arcadia will have to wait until everything is settled with them.
