  1. Past hour
  2. The most prominent aircraft I know of with similar features is the F-16, which is discussed here, with some up-close photos of what those stripes look like. The TLDR is that they prevent static build-up that could interfere with the radar. http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?/topic/140762-f-16-nose-cone/ Whether they were done for any reason other than aesthetics by Kawamori is up for grabs, but given he has an aerospace degree, I would not be at all surprised if he was fully aware of their real life purpose. I definitely learned something new though, I always figured they were structural stiffeners, or vortex generators. The YF-19/VF-19 nosecones have something similar.
  3. The artist is Naochika Morishita, who is rocking it lately. The recent YF-19 Fast Pack, Gluag, Queads, now this. He used to do some Macross Zero kits from Wave years ago if I recall This is really great box art.
  4. Introducing Lewin's take on Metroplex. I don't have space for it so it's going directly into storage as is. Shipping label said it was just over 100 lbs. but it sure felt a lot lighter than that. The shipping estimate was 40-70 days by boat, and it took 43 days from date of purchase to delivery.
  5. I like the illustration, i see they are using another artist now. Sounds like a question for the mecha fun type thread . Lol. But perhaps a special "chaser" vf scanning or recording equipment design. I only say that because it doesn't appear to be a standard VF-11 feature. I'm probably gonna break out and get one of these. I love VF-11's and the boosters are cool.
  6. Today
  7. Now that it features so prominently, I have to ask: Do those three accent lines on the nose of the VF serve any purpose? Or, would they serve a real-world purpose on a real-world aircraft? I know I've seen similar features before. I'm curious if they're strictly a consequence of design/engineering/construction, or if they're intentional like vortex generators and the like.
  8. Finding a crashed ship that apparently had hatches and levers (etc.) suitable for giants undoubtedly influenced SPACY in their design process. The Spartan seems to be a hybrid design between the heavy Destroid concept and the more nimble VF battroid designs.
  9. Well, they changed the box too, apparently. Looks like they Photoshopped out the UN Spacy tampos from even the box images, and did a new print run on the box. Some great comparison images at the link below: https://www.tfw2005.com/boards/threads/fugu-model-fg-01-god-of-flame-1-60-jetfire.1252186/page-93#post-23371581
  10. But seriously (well, half), these things have shoulder mounted missiles, cannons front and back... and freakin' valks have hands for no apparent tactical reason other than holding a ridiculous, handheld gun that makes zero sense (if design was considered BEFORE they knew they'd be tackling space giants). At least Spartans have big, heavy duty hands for both load handling and non explosive, close range tactical use on a SPACE ship where you don't exactly wanna be firing inside your own ship. In that regard these things make perfect sense.
  11. I'm waiting on Dark Ages DoomGuy, the Figma Eternal DoomGuy was absolutely awful, and basically only looked good standing in a vanilla pose. Also, if the cape isn't soft goods, it's the easiest pass ever, if they go with a big ass, heavy plastic cape they will ruin the figure period.
  12. I must've missed this post earlier. This looks amazing. I'm curious, did you build this in LDD or Studio2? I ask b/c I struggle with any number of things in Studio, especially its abysmal hinge tool that works improperly 95% of the time. Since I build transforming bots and sketch them in Studio, that hinge tool is a necessity and the fact that it seldom works right vexes and frustrates me to no end. An updated UCS style Imperial Shuttle is overdue and hopefully they'll produce one in the near future that addresses the faults of the first.

  14. Can barely wait!
  15. Great find! Thanks for sharing the translation— gunspin always exciting to revisit classic titles like Macross 7, especially with a bit more context. Looking forward to diving into the story myself!

  17. Seems like it's not selling very well tbh. Probably from same unit fatigue, and maybe lack of faith in Bandai's quality after the last few 25 revivals. Only Ozma's Armored has been tightened up, but maybe those fixes aren't so well known, since its a web exclusive. Or maybe everyone prefers Michael's version like me, and we are all torpedoing its chances of happening by having Bandai learn the wrong lessons again lol.
  18. nice! the hard copy for switch (international version) also released, i'm getting that copy.
  19. @solar smash The upgrade kit with the illuminated panel sounds amazing. I'm sorry but it seems to be discontinued.
  20. Me too, evidently I paid for it six months ago too.
  21. I totally forgot there was ever this PO lol.
