  2. The original thread may be locked, but there will never be an end to the debate. Whether it's Battlefield Earth, Highlander II, G-Saviour or anything directed by Uwe Boll or produced by The Asylum, we'll always have our arguments over which is the worst science fiction movie of all time. To start things off, let's play a little game called Bad Movie Night, which was inspired by my own experience. Over a decade ago, my old roommate kept on telling me that Wild Wild West was the worst movie ever made. I hadn't seen the movie, but as bad as the reviews were, I disagreed with him. So we did a bad movie challenge. He had me watch Wild Wild West, while I made him watch a bad movie of my choice. I made him watch Disney's Inspector Gadget. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhC2bqVxoA4 A week later, he demanded a rematch. He had me watch I Got the Hook Up. So it was a typical rap movie, but not as bad as he said it was. And it made me feel bad because I made him watch Steel. Round 3 came, and he challenged me to watch Cyborg. At this point, I wasn't sure if he was trying at all or his movie pain threshold was just really low. Needless to say, my challenge to him for round 3 was the 1990 Captain America movie. We did one final round because he wanted me to watch The Wizard. You know, that theatrical Nintendo commercial with the Power Glove and Super Mario Bros. 3. I ended the round with Robotech II: The Sentinels. So with this in mind, if you were to challenge a friend to Bad Movie Night, what three movies would you make them watch that would guarantee you a win (provided they haven't seen them yet)? And what would you wager (whether it's a buck or a drink)?
  3. The Lego Movie is an upcoming 3D animated film directed by Phil Lord & Chris Miller (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) and Chris McKay (Robot Chicken), and will be the first full-length movie based on the bestselling Lego toy line. The film features the voices of Chris Pratt (Peter Quill/Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy, Andy in Parks and Recreation), Elizabeth Banks (Betty Brant in Spider-Man 1-3, Effie in The Hunger Games), Alison Brie (Trudy in Mad Men), Nick Offerman (Ron in Parks and Recreation), Charlie Day (Newt in Pacific Rim, Charlie in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Will Ferrell (like no one here knows him...), Liam Neeson (as if no one's heard of him...), Morgan Freeman (again, like no one's familiar with him), and Will Arnett (G.O.B. in Arrested Development, Devon in 30 Rock) as Batman. The Lego Movie hits theaters on February 7, 2014. Official Site
  4. The Wachowski Brother & Sister return with Jupiter Ascending, starring Mila Kunis (Lori in Ted, Mona Sax in Max Payne), Channing Tatum (himself in This Is the End, Duke in G.I. Joe), Sean Bean (Alec Trevelyan in GoldenEye, Boromir in The Lord of the Rings), and Korean actress Bae Doona (Sonmi/Tilda/Mexican woman in Cloud Atlas). Jupiter Ascending was originally scheduled for a July 25, 2014 release, but it's been pushed back to February 6, 2015 to finish the special effects. Official Site
  5. This year, we'll have not one but two films with the exact same premise: terrorists raiding the White House and holding the President hostage, and one guy going Die Hard to save the day. First off, coming March 22 is Olympus Has Fallen, directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, King Arthur) and starring Gerard Butler (Leonidas in 300), Aaron Eckhart (Harvey Dent/Two-Face in The Dark Knight), Morgan Freeman (like nobody here knows who he is...), Rick Yune (Johnny Tran in The Fast and the Furious) and Ashley Judd (Charlene in Heat). In this film, a North Korean terrorist group led by Kang (Yune) takes over the White House and threatens to kill the President (Eckhart) if the government does not meet their demands. Secret Service Agent Mike Banning (Butler) goes on a one-man mission to take out all of the terrorists and save the President. Then on June 28 is White House Down, directed by Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, Stargate), written by James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man, The Rundown) and starring Channing Tatum (Magic Mike, Duke in G.I. Joe), Jamie Foxx (Ray, Django Unchained), Maggie Gyllenhaal (Rachel in The Dark Knight, Elizabeth in Donnie Darko) Jason Clarke (Dan in Zero Dark Thirty) and James Woods (Mike Toreno in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas). In this film, a paramilitary group led by Stenz (Clarke) takes over the White House and threatens to kill the President (Foxx) if the government does not meet their demands. Secret Service Agent John Cale (Tatum) goes on a one-man mission to take out all of the terrorists and save the President. Of these two movies, which do you predict will be better?
  6. 21 Jump Street is based on the 1987 TV series that helped jumpstart the FOX Network. The film stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, with special appearances from original TV cast members Johnny Depp, Holly Robinson Peete, and Peter DeLuise. The film premiered on March 16 and has earned US$201 million at the box-office. It's also gotten good reviews, with an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Due to the success of this film, a sequel is in the works. Official Site
  7. This Is the End was originally released on June 12 and was met with critical acclaim, with fans and critics calling it the best comedy of Summer 2013 (at least for those who didn't watch The World's End). Directed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the film is a remake of the 2007 short film Jay and Seth Versus the Apocalypse. The film stars Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson, along with a whole bunch of other actors, as they must deal with the apocalypse outside James Franco's house. And for those who missed out on the release, Sony Pictures brought it back in theaters on September 6. The rest of the world gets to see it for the first time starting this week. Due to the success of the film, a sequel is in the works. Official Site
  8. Apparently the inevitable sequel to the Rise of Cobra is at least getting off to a good start. It's being written by the same writers who did Zombieland and (the best part) Stephen Sommers won't be returning. No release date yet though. http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/19004/sommers-out-of-g-i-joe-sequel EDIT: Accidentally hit the button before I finished making the poll.
