26662 Posted July 18 Posted July 18 Amazon Japan updated the Tread’s release date. [I don’t recall seeing this update posted here.] Quote
Mog Posted July 18 Posted July 18 Just got the email too. Looks like I’m waking up the moogle avatar in about two weeks. . . . And the supplies have already been acquired and ready to mobilize after I spend about an hour futzing with the big boy. Quote
sh9000 Posted July 19 Posted July 19 My TLEAD order at Nin-Nin-Game is set to private warehouse but I don't have any other orders so I'll probably ship it once it comes in stock. The release date on their listing still says 7/31. Hope Sentinel made the toy packaging thicker for this. Quote
Shawn Posted July 21 Posted July 21 Wanted to share another item from the extreme-rare category of Mospeada history, the Cutaway series. Around 2001 I picked up this Cutaway Armo-Soldier cel from Mandarake Torrance, it was $500 at the time which was a LOT of money. This was the original Cel created by Artmic, and it is large! Here it is from a pic I took back in 2001 with my Macross VO cdrom for comparison About 10 years ago it was part of a trade to another member here on the board. Flipping up the corner to take a peek, its hand painted! Flash Forward 25 years later, another Cutaway pic showed up on Yahoo Japan Auctions this week, the Armo-Fighter mode cel! 804,098 yen later, it is was secured for the same person I traded the Soldier mode to, and will be in transit soon. That is a FAR cry from the measly $500 from 2 decades ago!! When it arrives I'll make sure to get some detailed pics to share The seller did the same 'peek' As far as I know, there are just 2 more in this Cutaway series, the Mospeada bikes in both modes. Here are the pics of these from the Artmic Design book from the 80's Its crazy to know exactly where 50% of these assets are 40 years later! Shawn Quote
Mog Posted July 21 Posted July 21 I think, if Pose+ had used these as references for their internals on the Legioss, there wouldn’t have been as much grumbling. We’d still complain about how it’d impact/compromise the whole structure of the vehicle. But the vitriol would have been slightly less. Quote

That was an absolute fortune to me as a 2nd year grad student. I think my round trip flight to Madrid that year cost me only $400, and my monthly rent was $250. I love these look-backs. Thanks for sharing! Quote

Shawn $500 USD adjusted for inflation today is approx $900 USD . 804,098 Yen approx $5K USD That has beat the sh#t out of inflation for that recent sale. Nice 👍 Quote
Sildani Posted July 22 Posted July 22 (edited) Hi! Nin-Nin wants me to verify my identity by submitting pics of me holding my passport, and then close-up pics of my passport, along with a utility bill. Is this really a standard procedure? I’ve never had to do this with any other importer. Edited July 22 by Sildani Quote

The only time I've ever seen that rigorous of an ID process used was for getting my driver's license renewed. Quote

Had some few oders from them in the past and weird issues so far. Edited July 22 by Froy Quote

Assuming everything’s legit, maybe fraud has been a problem for them recently? Quote
Sildani Posted July 22 Posted July 22 Well I checked Nin-Nin's FAQ, and it seems legit... I suppose this order broached some kind of limit. Quote

Giving that information out to strangers on the internet, with no idea of how secure their data storage is or how long they will keep it for, is insane. That is serious identity theft waiting to happen. Edited July 22 by Silverstreak Quote

Sounds like they’ve had some issues, but this is going to some extremes. I’d never buy from them if they required that. Maybe try contacting them about the situation and explain why you and probably every customer they have wouldn’t feel comfortable doing that. Quote
Chas Posted July 23 Posted July 23 (edited) Did we already know that Good Smile is producing both a Stick and a Ray ride armor for the Moderoid line? Pics from Shizouka in May. Edited July 23 by Chas Quote

Yeah, they’re posted a couple pages back in this thread and in the Moderoid thread. Still waiting for the preorders though. Definitely looking forward to them Quote

Looks nice. I'm not familiar with the Good Smile Cyclone. Can you, someone, speak to their quality? From your pix alone, it sorta gives me the "budget toy" vibe. Quote
Chas Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Not Toys. Snap - fit, colour molded assembly kits (models). Thanks Big S. Has anyone noticed, or voiced any theories on the split front tire? Quote

Has anyone noticed, or voiced any theories on the split front tire? It’s a prototype in the picture, but I’d assume that it’s a two part assembly, just not stick together so great here. Moderoid usually has pretty good fit in the final product, so it will look a lot better in hand Quote
Chas Posted July 23 Posted July 23 (edited) I realized that it is likely due to the prototype nature of the model, but when I noticed it my mind immediately jumped to this concept art. Unlikely as it is to be the reason. Edited July 23 by Chas Quote

Has something to do with their heft and tolerances. My very first VF-1 was a model kit and it turned out to be a floppy mess. Instead of addressing its inadequacies, I tossed it. Quote

Model kits have come a long way, even compared to the Bandai VF-1. But I still prefer non transforming kits. Most of my Gundam just seem to have lasted longer than most of my toys, probably due to lighter weight and simpler construction Quote

I don't know how this is going to effect future purchases from Japan. Quote
DewPoint Posted July 23 Posted July 23 I ordered from Hobby Genki. I have not received any shipping notifications yet. So far, I haven't has any issues with them yet. Seems to be still available... https://hobby-genki.com/en/sentinel/43039-riobot-armored-genesis-climber-mospeada-148-ab-01h-tread-4571335880835.html I do not know what the final shipping costs will be with everything going on. I guess we will all find out when we find out. Quote

I remember having to do this many years ago, when I signed up for a Tenso account - an ID with utility bill in my name. I guess it's fair for companies to ask for this during registration or during the point of putting in the order - so one can refuse if uncomfortable with it at that point & look elsewhere. Doesn't look that good when they only ask for this when stuff just about to ship on an order placed months ago, which I am assuming it's the case here. Quote
Mog Posted July 23 Posted July 23 As annoying as it was, kinda glad Amazon Japan asked for payment upfront for the Tread. Didn’t have to worry about any changes in shipping prices or in the price itself in the interim. Quote

I’ve honestly lost track of all of my preorders. Stuff just shows up on my doorstep unexpectedly. Quote

Jack Daniels must have inspired those purchases because sober 26662 def doesn’t need 4: i don’t have room enough to display even 1, but here we are. :-) Maybe I was protecting myself from unexpected cancellations from one or more distributors? Anyway, more to the point, one of the Treads was ordered from Nin Nin. They didn’t require any ID this time. Quote
