Gubaba Posted December 7, 2010 Share Posted December 7, 2010 Actually it was more in response to the "basera sucks because his robot has a mouth and he sings rock songs in the middle of battles instead of blowing people up". Seriously though, the one thing that did bug me about 7 was how the fire Valkyrie had a gunpod that shot speakers. I mean there's a definite logic to it, but I feel like it would be way cooler and make more sense in context to have the fire Valk carry a robot sized guitar instead of a gunpod. Ugh. And every now and then, while watching macross, i would have involuntary flashes of minmei singing with an android for a wedding... Kill me, please. But strictly within macross? Hmm... now I find the knife fight terrible, but watching it as a kid, and seeing max fight with his crush who also happens to be a zentraedi ace... hell, what animation problems?? Plus was mostly ok in my memory, M7...a long series I learned to like in a particular way, Zero...hmmm... I'll have to say probably Frontier was the series with the most "OH C'mon!" moments. Radd Posted December 28, 2010 Share Posted December 28, 2010 This thread is inspired by the fact that to this day, I can't help but frown whenever I think of the scene in Macross Frontier where Alto is talking to Sheryl about the upcoming battle with the (supposedly) Ranka-controlled Vajra, and he says that if it comes to it "I'll kill Ranka!" To me, that line was so over-the-top and juvenille - even for Alto. I mean, Alto knows Ranka very well as a thoughtful girl. So she suddenly decides to defend Ai-kun and go run off with her brother - and not once does Alto ask "why?" He just hates the Vajra so much and is so blinded by blood lust, that even when his closest girlfriend - in tears and with a broken heart - makes the choice to go off with Brera and Ai-Kun...he doesn't even wonder for a moment why? I dunno...I think that just from the standpoint of plot - it would have been better to have the conversation with Sheryl go something like: "How could Ranka do this? I don't understand..." "Understanding eachother is something that is difficult" Or something more complex - anything but "I will kill Ranka!" To this day, it's the one part of Macross that I would honestly love to retcon, cut, liquidate. What's YOUR worse Macross moment? Pete I think you're oversimplifying what was going on here. Alto wasn't just, "Bwah, I'll kill her!" He honestly thought Ranka had betrayed humanity to the Vajra. He didn't have all the facts in addition to his own hurt emotions. He wasn't stating he'd kill Ranka because she'd left him for giant insects and "that other guy". He was stating he would kill her if he had to, for the sake of humanity. And it was tearing him up inside. And it wasn't just Alto! It wasn't just Alto, Luca and the entire Frontier fleet! It wasn't just characters in the show, remember? Remember how fans, even fans here on this very board, somehow missed the increasingly obvious? That the Vajra weren't the bad guys? Personally, I was floored back then, when the show wrapped up and people were lamenting how Ranka wasn't getting strung up for betraying humanity. Even after the credits rolled, so many people didn't actually understand what had happened. And the fans, real people, had even less of an excuse than Alto. Alto only had the information he had personally witnessed. We got to see multiple angles coming together over the course of the series, gradually revealing the larger picture in a way the characters in the show did not have the luxury of witnessing. Actually flying the thing would be a no no, but he didn't take off till Misa mistakenly orderd him to. As for the original post, Busting up a flight demonstation pales to insignificance when the entire Earth is under attack from Aliens...
