areaseven Posted September 17, 2011 Author Posted September 17, 2011 I don't think there has ever been a franchise so badly handled. Robotech, anyone?
Kanedas Bike Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 I dunno, Highlander can be pretty bad, LOL. Again, the same can be said for all types of films that have become cult favorites. So-so story/scrip/acting/etc. are almost, but not necessarily, prerequisites for cult status. I'd be interested in a remake if handled properly, the issue is that it's a near certainty that it won't be. -b.
RDClip Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Robotech, anyone? Yeah but the difference is that the Highlander franchise failed while doing something, actually producing some new stuff(crap it may be) Robotech just failed while doing next to nothing. (i don't count comics or fanfic, i mean, novels)
EXO Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 I've pretty much resigned to the fact that Highlander will mever be good ever again. I don't think there has ever been a franchise so badly handled. I loved the first one, I screamed at the 2nd, i was generally indifferent about the 3rd, i vomited at the 4th, and i didn't even know the source movie existed until i stumbled across a video online of the villian drilling himself into the ground. They didnt listen to their own mantra... There can be only one.
EXO Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Are there only 2 actors in Hollywood? Colin Farrel and Ryan Reynolds? And it's not like either one is a big draw...
areaseven Posted June 29, 2012 Author Posted June 29, 2012 (edited) Whenever there's talk of any Highlander sequel, I can't help but think of this... Edited June 14, 2013 by areaseven
EXO Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Me too. My favorite part of the movie. Lol. "highlander won the oscars for best movie...Ever!"
areaseven Posted July 2, 2012 Author Posted July 2, 2012 (edited) Has there been any movement on this at all? Just this:Ryan Reynolds Confirmed as HighlanderAnd this guy predicted it last year: Edited June 14, 2013 by areaseven
Einherjar Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Funny thing is that he's lost his head once already.
Graham Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 As much as I love the original movie and like the TV series, some franchises should just be left to rest in peace and NOT be resurected. Graham
Keith Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Much like the Alien & Aliens, I don't understand why you people think something happened after the first Highlander. Next thing you know you'll be telling me that there was some TV series that conveniently featured an entirely different McCloud and had stupid plot twists like a group of clandestine mortals secretly "watching," an ancient immortal who can't remember his own past, and evil quickening building up enough to turn other immortals evil. Everybody know's that the "game" was won at the end of the movie, anything else would make no sense whatsoever.

The thing about the original that made it so good was the Kurgan. Yeah Ramirez was cool and and a race if immortals chopping each other's heads off is a fun premise. But every scene Clancy Brown was in was quadruply cool and fun. The fight between Ramirez and The Kurgan was the best scene in the movie. Plus Bunny Heather was hot... young Bunny Heather, not old crowe Bunny Heather.
areaseven Posted February 18, 2013 Author Posted February 18, 2013 Anyone want to go direct the new Highlander movie? The position is vacant now. The Highlander Reboot Has Lost Its Director Again
GU-11 Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 FYI, people, it's spelled MacLeod. McCloud is the new data storage company MacDonald's is planning on starting.
peter Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Is this thing really going through?? I lked the first movie, not gonna lie, but the second movie was confusing to say the least, especially when the third movie came out and then the TV series. There was hardly any continuity in the whole franchise that you could almost label everything that came out after the first movie a reboot. It actually boggles my mind thinking about how each film connnects to the other.
GU-11 Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 IMO, The Highlander began and ended when Connor lopped off The Kurgan's head. Anything afterwards is just fan-fiction in my eyes. @Peter: You forgot the anime. If memory serves, it's called Highlander: The Search for Vengeance. It's apparently better than any of the live-action sequels and the TV series, although that's not saying much.

I really don't think there's any salvaging this franchise and a reboot/remake is just going to confuse people further.
GU-11 Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 Except for one fatal flaw: no Queen music. True, although using Princes of the Universe as the TV series' opening theme didn't quite save it from mediocrity. Honestly, there's just no equaling, let along beating, the original movie or soundtrack. Listening to "Who wants to live forever?" still gives me goosebumps to this very day.

areaseven Posted June 14, 2013 Author Posted June 14, 2013 As the reboot is in development hell, Christopher Lambert had this to say about it.
Hikuro Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 He'd be a good fit for the role, I can see that. Tom Cruise for Rameriz? I doubt it. He wouldn't take the role unless he was gonna get 150% of the film being about him. But I get what Lambert is saying. Why? There's no point in doing a reboot unless you're gonna make it different. Which, whatever they do, will stomp all over the original and be bad. Just the fact that they'll have characters like Rameriz and Kurgan says it right there. It'll be nothing but a modern re-hash.Also, no Queen, no good. What are ya gonna do? Have Adam Lambert in it give a weak ass styling? I hate that guy.
Big s Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 The soundtrack really was a key to the greatness of the original. The story was good enough and the action wasn’t bad and the main characters were pretty good and it was totally silly to have a Spaniard with a scotch Irish voice that used a Japanese sword, but everything glued together with the greatest movie soundtrack ever.Â
Wolf-1 Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 As someone who has seen them all, with the only omissions in the collection being Highlander 2(don't care how it's cut/edited, it just doesn't work) and The Raven ( I liked Amanda, just not that much); I'm bound to see it. I'm actually really surprised to hear that P.S. Davis is okay with this, as the whole point behind The Source was to allow W. Panzer to die knowing a "prize" had been achieved. Bring on the Queen but why not add some Who?Â

Dave Bautista could pull it off. A different take on the role but I think he would work.

Clancy Brown was Kurgan, unless Kurgan joined Rainbow Six.
