Voltron revival?

See, I hate how every other version of Go Lion has tried to futurize/stylize the lions. They looked perfect during the first series, an ideal blend of robotic/mechanical while retaining the presence of some sort of lion. Then again, over-styling would probably be more eagerly accepted by today's Saturday morning cereal eaters so whatever...

Looks like the animated version won't be as detailed as the designs. You'd think that with CG animation you can keep all those details in. And from the storyboards it seems like the character's will have a slight Bruce Timm design look. Of course this is all spec. I'll hold judgment til we see final product.

Wonder which companies will produce the actual animation for the new show. Afaik in the past World Events Production bought the animation from (and later commisioned) Toei.

Wow. Between this, Thundercats and Transformers, etc., they're remaking everything these days (except Robotech, lol).

I wonder how long until remakes of Rude-Dog & the Dweebs and Denver the Last Dinosaur come along.

Speaking of...http://www.toyark.com/news/voltron-toy-news-35/mattel-voltron-classics-3882/Mattel is coming out with a classic represenation of the toy. It's suppose to stand 2'-3' tall. Online only.

There is a possibility that they make it to retail stores afterwards. Initially they will be sold through mattycollector.com.

I have little desire for a BIGGER Voltron figure, I want a BETTER one. Really, no one's made that much of an improvement from the original 80's ones. I'm trying to think if Mattel has any experience with combining/transforming toys at all. I keep imagining they're just going to make a 2x upscaled Trendmasters due to inability to really do something new/improved.

Don't know if they've made transforming ones recently, last ones I saw were mech suits from their Imaginext line and some from Batman Brave and the Bold. I had doubts on their WWE line(s) but they ended up impressing me with those, so hopefully the same thing happens with Voltron.

Tsk, well, you can tell this is aimed for the younger audience, we're just to out dated. still, I'll watch it as long as it doesn't feel as hokey as what the old school series pulled off 20+ years later. I bought a volume for nostalgia and when I started watching it I face palmed myself so much I left marks.

Either case, if I ever found the Voltron toys from Toynami, I'd probably buy 'em...hopefully not face palm that too.

I dunno about the lions on this. Some pics they look fine, then others make them look so soft. I think if they did a Chester Cheetah Voltron figure, I'd go for that. At least he has that Sean Connery voice, and sun glasses. I'd pilot that mech while eating a big bag of cheetohs. There's a perfect product tie-in.

Except we already had that show, it was called "MEGAS-XLR"
