SHUT UP AND EAT YOUR AWESOME!:

OK, now this is GREAT! This should be the official trailer. No BS, just pure unadulterated "THIS IS WHAT YOU'RE PAYING FOR" advertising strategy. Like they say in the UK, "It does exactly what it says on the tin".

I haven't read any reviews, but I'd say the aforementioned scores were pretty accurate.

The Chicago battle was too drawn out and involved too many humans, all of whom were basically just running from building to building most of the time.

It's pretty sad when, about halfway through the Chicago battle, I realized that the first half of the movie (before the initial space bridge, I guess) was much more entertaining. This pretty much held through to the last ~5minutes, featuring the battle between Prime and the two big bads.

Even then, it wasn't as good as ROTF's Forest Battle (aka: Optimus vs all takers). DOTM just didn't have anything approaching that crowning moment of awesome.

In my book, with the original Transformers animated movie (1986) arbitrarily set at 10, it's:

Transformers 2007 = 8.5

ROTF = 7

DOTM = 5

Got back from the theater a little while ago; I think that this is the last time I go see a 3D film. If anything, the effect didn't really improve the experience and honestly, it made the battle scenes blurry and hard to follow. I think I'll have to see the film a few more times in 2D to really take everything in.

I still say they should have let Sam Raimi direct it. Human's screaming running around scenes would have been hilarious, and Optimus would have a scene wehre he strapped a chainsaw on his arm and said "GROOVY." Note: I still haven't seen the film :)

Jwasko, I want to quote your post, but if I do I will be spoiled, because the text inside the tag will be revealed.

So, what I wanted to say is: Worse even than the abysmal ROTF?? Geez, that sounds pretty damning...

Wow... Roger didn't like it? That's harsh.

Well, if I remember well, he also abhorred the 1986 movie, and I absolutely loved it. I remember he called the soundtrack "deafening", but I think it's awesome.

Then again, I'm not a little kid anymore (unfortunately).

Just came back from watching this movie in 3D. As expected, leave your brains at the front door, because like ROTF, there is no comprehensible plot. Just tons of explosions, chaos and people jumping all over the screen. The 3D wasn't as eye-popping as expected, but the action alone was worth it.

Saw a trailer and thought: "oh, wow--another movie with fake-moving CGI robot-octopus-tentacle-thingies flashing around the screen. Is this another Matrix sequel?"

This di*k M. Bay isn't gonna be happy until he seriously injures or kills another cast/crew member with his over-the-top, unrealistic flash-bang effects shots.

But to call the summer-action movie "the supreme art of our age"? and Bay "a maestro"?! Seriously? The fu*k, man? A definitive affliction of hubris, I'd say...

just saw it, and was immensely disappointed. quite easily one of the worst films i've watched.

they should rename the title to Trans-random, because everything in the movie is just beyond random. it's like the editors just stuffed the workprints into a blender and called it a day. channel surfing would be more coherent.

honestly, i did as instructed and checked my brain at the door, and prepped myself for a couple of hours of mindless, robot bashing glee. but the cuts and jumps are just so jarring and non-sensical, it's hard to ignore. and at 2.5 hours, i think easily a full hour should've ended up on the cutting room floor. the poor editing and the terrible script made the whole movie tedious to watch, and sapped the fun from the few portions that were good.

oh, the robot battles were good, and actually easier to follow than in previous movies. but i think the best way to enjoy them is through youtube clips. because as they are in the movie, each 2-minute action sequence, spectacular as they are, really struggles to connect with the last and the next couple of minutes.

Not sure how to use the multi quote feature i wanted to get all the last three comments and say

QFT!

I was disappointed. The movie is half an hour too long, but the extra length is all of unnecessary crap.

There is no plot. It looks like they wrote the cool action scenes that they wanted to show then filled the gaps.

Some of my issues with the movie:

  • [Megatron was completely wasted. Sitting around during the whole chicago battle? Was because of the bain damage?
  • Prime gets tangled on cables wires and needs wreckers to go untangle him... really?
  • That Grapple hook crap was a very poor attempt to give Sam superpowers. Horrible idea.
  • I hate those damn tentacles on the ships.
  • The oriental freak dude was annoying and should not be in the movie.
  • Agent Simmons should not be in the movie
  • Sam parents should not be in the movie

I was excited about seeing this, but now I am not so sure...

Just a couple of questions though:

Is there more Transformer action (with them in robot mode, not just as cars)?

Is there less (hopefully far less) human "drama" that practically ruined the first movie for me?

HUGE Transformers fan in my younger days, did not see part II, will not be seeing this one.

I can't even stand how the previews look.

But I guess these things make tons of money all over the world so what do I know...

Its not how I would have done it. You have to make the audience buy-in, feel for something - ANYTHING - in a movie.

These just look like very expensive, intricate noise...

i don't want to dampen your enthusiasm so i'll spoiler tag what i think. but the short answers to your questions: yes and no.

as to the human element:

- half an hour of "human drama"

- half an hour of humans trying to be funny or cool

- half an hour of either "character development" (as there are quite a number of new minor characters) or pitifully trying to advance the plot

- half an hour of humans running around

Limbo, on top of your list my issues are:

- JFK and Obama CG was just horrible

- optimus makes a point about losing his trailer to shockwave and needing to get it back. then in a conveniently dramatic opportunity he's zooming around to the rescue. they couldn't have included a scene showing optimus trying to get his trailer back? or at least a quick shot of him making his way towards it?

- bumblebee rescues sam and another guy after they kill starscream, a few quick cuts from elsewhere are shown, and when it returns to bumblebee, he and the other autobots are suddenly prisoners? when did that happen?

- and just as quickly, a distraction allows the autobots to fight their captors. they weren't disarmed in captivity?

- the humans finally make it to another building where they have line of sight to their target. they point at it while talking that they should take it out with a rocket shot. what do they do next? they jump out of the building to ambush some decepticons

- the new girl's sole contribution to the effort was to trashtalk megatron to go against sentinel? lame.

- megatron not squishing her. out of character.

- optimus executing an already downed sentinel. out of character.

It is too long, and there's too many "20 mins of humans, no robots" stretches. But:

1. Far less sophomoric/bathroom humor than ROTF. But still present in first half, especially one scene.

2. Lots more Laserbeak than you'd expect.

3. It's IMHO a good bit better than ROTF, mainly due to #1/lack of twins.

My thoughts exactly, but I didn't say anything at the time because I'd probably get flamed again by all the Michael Bay lovers.

That other trailer, titled "Shut up and eat your Awesome" demonstrates that Bay is clearly defensive about how crappy his work is....or at least his fans are defensive about how crappy his work is. It almost seemed like propoganda and it was positively surreal watching people eat it up.

Well just got back from seeing it, I was the only one to book tickets in advance, got my sweet spot seats :). The film was kinda what I was expecting. Without using spoilers talk the good bits less toilet humour, more bot action ,lots more booms and distruction. Lots of nods to the G1 era and the war for Cybertron game.

The bad a lot of human time filling in the story, sometimes telling you stuff that you already worked out or knew. Some bits where I wanted an explanation I didn't get one. Some bits where I thought I don't care. There were a few really bad cuts, one in particular made me think wtf did we miss a bit. I guess we may see them fixed on dvd release with extra scenes. I have to say sometimes I thought there was too much death both bot and con. Bays slowmo cam is probably broken now due to over use, maybe that's a good point. The 3D in places was a bit blurred but over all was just enough imo. Some obvious uses of Bays favorite sets and places as used in other Bay films.

Overall the story was simple and in parts will be familiar to most die hard G1 fans.

I'd go and see it again and would buy it on dvd.

Its not as bad as some would have you think, but could have been better.

I was never expecting a work of art but rarely these days do you get one anyhow. May be if Bay won't do another someone else will pick up the baton, and take the story some more, would be interesting to see where though.

OK, I have just returned for seeing Transformers Dark of the Moon, and I'm about to say something I'd never thought I would say: "GOD BLESS YOU MICHAEL BAY, I HOPE YOU GO TO HEAVEN... NOW!!" Yes, it's that good!! When the lights went down and the screen lit up, I was 12 years old again. The opening felt like a Disney ride, I was completely blown away by the action in all it's 3D awesomeness. All the things I hated about the first two, were gone: dogs humping, robots urinating, robots humping, Sams parents er,OK they were in there BUT, they were not that annoying. Bottom line for me is that Michael Bay has a great 3D Transformers movie that was a delight to watch. GO SEE IT FOR YOURSELF!!! :)

Most in your face “look at the piece of meat with legs and tits” outside of a porno I’ve seen.

Faaaaaar to long. All the action ends up boring you. Decepticons

are a generic looking mess.

I bet you could edit the three movies into just one and produce something a lot better.

Sad that slop like this makes money

Space Battleship Yamato gets a serious Live Action Movie we get A man paid billions to loose his mind.

TV gets a serious re-make of BSG

We get metal scrambled Eggs

DC geeks get a really cool joker

We get mini robots with cock rockets

Bay just took a poo on your face those that like it keep licking it

There is still hope for one more transforming fighting robot genre - Robotech IE Macross hope it doesnt fail me

Just got back from seeing it. I think it's definitely better than RotF... the plot (however thin and borrowed from an episode of the cartoon) is more focused this time, and while there's a lot of humans running around doing stuff, I think there's more robot action. The first one is still the best of the trilogy.

I'm sure the movie will do well and another Transformers movie will be green lit. But I hear that Bay is done, and I'm sure Hasbro is pushing for some new fresh designs to sell toys, so I'm thinking the next one will be a reboot.

Better hope Michael Bay dosen't want to direct a Macross movie after his success with Transformers.
