Let's hope SK got his crazy out on Kissdum and leaves the non-drugged part of his creative brain juices for a good Macross Story :p

I thought Kawamori was only doing mechanical designs, not directing or writing for Kissdum.

Yep he's only doing mecha design

Didn't the creator abandon the project during production; thats why it's so comfusing?

I don´t mean to be a pessimist but I´m not liking the way things are being done right now.

Look at the Macross zero dvd commercial, it wasn´t epic , it was dumb, and badly edited. It didn´t portray the best of the series ( that doesn´t atract new viewers afaik ).

Now kissdum is failing bacause the crew can´t get it together.

And these people are supposed to guarantee the success of the 25th anniversary ? Gosh...I hope they get serious before it´s too late.

I´m starting to think they don´t have the same image of macross in Japan as we do ( action + good music + drama and not for 5 year olds) , certainly not when you look at M7 and this dvd commercial.

I REALLY hope Kawamori & Co. go onto rehab and start working hard to make a decent successor to the original TV series, or at least I hope bandai and BW pressure the production team to come up with something good.

Well its not satelite's fault that Kissdum is going down the drain. The director bailed on them, that guy was not going to work on Macross Flyer regardless. Kawamori has nothing to do with Kissdum aside mechanical design, and Satelite is just doing the animation. Kissdum is not Kawamori's baby, Flyer is.

I think... my means is...

The New Macross will be released by Satelight. Zero is Satelight product too. So...

^^

Some buddies dislike the big monster, why must The Overtechnology Product be mechanical Rob? It is cute fairy also, why not? I like it, hey hey~~~

The new Macross better not have fairies or monsters in it. If it does then I'm done with Macross, because IMO Macross will be nothing but anime for 8 year olds if that is the trend. Macross 7 had enough of that stuff. Cute fairy, CUTE Fairy, CUTE FAIRY, no no no no. If I want to see a cute fairy I'll watch hentai.

When I watched the Kissdum, I think the New Macross will become a similar Macross 7 story by Shoji Kawamori. Some guys maybe despair~~~~~~~~

In Kissdum, there are new life race like ProtoDeviln, it is HardyAnn(ãƒãƒ¼ãƒ‡ã‚£ã‚¢ãƒ³) produce by other Culture Technology.

HardyAnn=Hades Arms or Hades Angel?

The story hero Aiba(哀羽シュウ) evolve into NecroDriver(ãƒã‚¯ãƒãƒ€ã‚¤ãƒãƒ¼ï¼ˆä¼æ‰¿è€…)), when he killed by HardyAnn.

NecroDriver... Super Power... He can fly and his left hand change to gun~~~

Varda(ヴァルダ) is a servant of Dead Books(死者ã®æ›¸)

Vaire(ヴァイレ) & Valar(ヴァラール ) are servants of Abhoos Bones(アヴホースã®éª¨).

I figure they are cute fairy like Sivil.

Cute, tooooooooooooooooooooo cute!!!

the story is continued...

I knew this show would be garbage..

Hmmmmmmmmm... let me think about it, there is maybe a glitch, because The Macross Official website never said Satelight will be produce New Macross. Official only said that Satelight present 25th booth in TAF2007.

So, The New Macross will become a new epic without Satelight...

Okay maybe I really missed something here. This "kissdum" thing, uh, it isn't THE new macross series is it? I'm not totally up-to-date on this thread, so, uhm, yeah. Quell my fears. The new series isn't fairies and a guy with a mud...log-arm .. thing.

right?

The ONLY thing Kissdum and the new Macross series have in common is that:

1. Shoji Kawamori is doing mecha designs.

2. SATELITE is doing the CGI.

NOTHING else has been announced concerning the staff, production, etc.

Kissdum is failing b/c of the directorial problems (again which has NOTHING to do with the new Macross production).

I'm don't understand this logic. Mac0 (the most recent macross) had a very mature story. (Yes Mac7 was more similar to Sailor Moon than it should've been) The problem was just the approach. The Birdman and 'magic' in mac0 could very well be more advanced Overtechnology than what was in the SDF. I would just hope that the new series goes in depth into explaining the technology rather than just relying on suspension of disbelief.

As someone who's seen both Macross 7 & Sailor Moon, I can honestly say the two shows are entirely dissimilar.

Good for you, Keith, no one cares.

I think we can all agree that a vast majority of fans don't want to see something silly with the new Macross project.

I think those of us concerned over the new Macross project are really getting worked up over nothing. So far, the amount of solid information available for the new Macross series is virtually non-existant. Worrying about Kawamori or the effect KISSDUM's success/failure will have on Macross is really premature IMO.

I say be patient. Eventually, more offical details about the series will be released and then we'll all have real facts to whine and complain about rather than just guessing. Look at it this way, after MacrosZero, there's no where to go but up :)

To be honest I'd like them to take some of the better ideas from Crest/Banner of the Stars, LoGH, and some of the solid SF properties and tech stuff that was in Yukikaze. Musically I've just love for BONES to be attached, even if it wasn't for just more than atmosphere/mood musics.

Well said Mr March. We can all talk about what we want, but we are just going to have to wait until some details are released. With out that all we are doing is speculating on it with no info.

Big West, please take Macross away from Kawamori.

Hmm I wonder if that's really a good idea...

Mac 7's story outline was Kawamori's but the ultimate story became the writers and director's.

If one looks at the product SK himself directed, you get a better idea of his Western leaning ideas that are not necessarily so popular in Japan.

Even Mac Zero had elements of telekenisis, bio-weaponry, a secret war between factions with different ideologies as opposed to the typical 2 dimensional kind often found in anime. It was not the tightest story out there but more grounded in scifi than the typical fantasy leaning SF anime series.

If released here, I suspect Mac Zero would do nearly as well as Plus did.

I often wonder if SK invisioned M7 to be more a serious allegory about the perils of the Bio-weaponry projects of the PC than the J-pop fest it was?

If you look at works he's done outside the universe as well as stuff he's done directly, it is often different from the Macross stuff only his name is attached to.

Since he is given Supervising Producer credit over the new series (akin to consultant) there is very real possibility that it may be another Mac 7 type of show.

Bigwest, like any typical studio will endorse what they feel the market will accept, and if they believe the market will welcome another j-pop mecha show then that is what they will green light.

As for Kissdum, the only relation it has to Macross Flyer is that Satelite is doing the CG animation and that Kissdum is the testbed to test, develop and polish the techniques that will be used on the 25th Anni Mac series.

I disagree. I would say a majority of the fan base in NA who wanted to see Macross Zero has seen it already. Its been discussed here enough, and generally, outside of the mecha sequences (which everyone loves), it wasn't blowing anyone skirts up. No one hated it, but its not exactly something anyone is still excited about or really still talks about. Completest Macross fans would purchase it to go in the collection, but it certainly wasn't as new and exciting (and really, out of nowhere for most of us) like Macross Plus was back in the mid 90's.

A proper release of DYRL? would stir the masses up, but I don't see 7 or Zero having that draw here.

I expect it would attract many of the casual Mecha porn fans, however you do make some valid points. However I'd expect Zero would have a better draw than 7 would.

DYRL would certainly stir the masses, which is probably why it is still considered the holy grail by HG and any other Western importers.

a proper release... you mean with proper english voice actors like Plus?

That would be godly. But please don't let HG get the casting rights... feck

That could'nt possibly happen could it...

Cool :D

HG pretty much fraked themselves with Bigwest by siding with Tatsunoko in the Japanese lawsuits, instead of being neutral. Which, I suspect is the principal reason they didn't do their sequel based on the Macross portion of RT (like "The Sentinels").

I was thinking in a complete new war with the supervision army. Could be interesting to see the U.N. Spacy facing this powerful menace in a last space war. And maybe a lost zentradi fleet can get involved too, in a battle to get the control of the new micronian's colonies and the last source of the protoculture. But saving all that spiritia stuff because is not required with the protodevlin out of scene.

Yeah this would be cool. If theres a "SW1" then there should be a "SW2" right? Otherwise SW1 would just be called "The Space War".

Wasn`t WW1 pre WW2 was just called "The Great War"?

Wasn't Kawamori the lead brains behind Macross. Why should he leave?

He created the universe and the episode outlines, Valk designs and directed the valk action sequences.

We know he wrote and directed Plus and Zero, it isn't clear how much he was directly involved with Mac 7 though, considering he was directing an OVA series at the time of it's production.

I always wondered that myself. Though I doubt much research was spent on why we call the first world war, WW1 in Japan.

Yes WW1 was called "The Great War" prior to 1940...

I don't buy the idea that a good Macross show could not be be done without Kawamori. I didn't like MII myself, but I don't think that should be taken as a sign that any Macross done without the man can't be good.

On the other hand, I personally don't think Kawamori has done a bad job. Zero could have used another full episode, that was really my only major complaint with that OVA. (Though wasn't SK also working on a couple other series at the same time?) Overall, I liked 7. It had flaws, but most of them seemed to come from the directing and the writing of the individual episodes. A tighter script and better direction could have made 7 every bit as good for those who prefere the Plus side of Macross as those who enjoy the Basara side, without significantly changing the story or the themes.

Still, Kawamori is just one part of Macross. A significant part, sure, but not the only part. I think someone who respected a lot of Kawamori's ideas as far as design and theme, and shared an understanding of what most people liked about the DYRL and Plus side of the franchise, could put together a great show that most of us would enjoy.

Moving back a bit, I'm not so certain that at this time a release of DYRL would make as big a splash as a release of Macross Zero in the west. The majority of anime fans seem to have an irrational aversion to older animation (I've met too many people who honestly believe an episode of Naruto has better animation than Akira, simply because it's newer). I've inflicted a lot of Macross on every anime fan I know, and all of them, without exception loved Zero. DYRL, sadly, did not go over nearly as well.

You love DYRL, I love DYRL, but there's no accounting for taste. The flashbang of CG still has an ineffable allure to most people these days, even when it's not particularly good CG. Zero had pretty good CG, too, so even where I might prefer the hand drawn sequences from DYRL, it's the more contemporary dogfights in Zero that make the jaws drop.
