jenius
Another observation (maybe most of you noticed this already) that picture doesn't actually show the Legioss connected to the Tread, it shows the Legioss backed up against the Tread. If they were connected the fins would have to be down and the feet would be tucked inside rather than splayed outward. I imagine that picture is just there to let you know they will be able to connect but that's maybe something they're not comfortable doing right now with their prototypes. Does the Tread look to be slightly smaller than it ought to be? in the prototype photo, the legioss looks like it sits better then the toynami versions It definitely will sit better since CMs feature a recessed chest in battloid mode. Apparently the CMs version will also over correct on the arched back feature by angling steeply downard which will also help it gain some clearance. Scream Man
As i said in the othe thread, the Legioss looks off. i cant explain how, but soemthing just seems WRONG with it. Thats not based on anything other than a toyfan looking at something and going 'huh?' i dont mean innacurate to lineart or anything its just....i dunno something doesnt seem right. Totoro242
Hmmm, the new designs remind me of Yukikaze or the fighters in Razephon which I really dont like. Maybe I'm old-fashioned but I like fighters with a more conventional look rather than the curvy, sleek, elongated, and sweeping designs found in recent anime. Hopefully, if there is a new anime in the works it will have better plot, character designs, and execution than Razephon (blech) or Yukikaze. Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0
The new take on the designs is interesting, though I hope we can see some vertical stabilizers on the new Legioss, looks empty without them! promethuem5
The new designs are pretty neat... they have an advanced Inbit-tech feel to them almost... the only thing is, why would we need a Mospeada sequel after the nicely wrapped up slightly hippy-dippy ending of the series? I agree tho that the Legioss2 could use some v-stabs...
Mog
Heck, I'm willing to be a test dummy for the CM's version (ASSUMING they show us some more pics and give us some updates!!). Maybe I should whine more often! Like everyone else here, I really hope that's not how the Legioss-Tread connection will actually look. The Legioss should definitely be sitting much higher up, practically in-line with the "chest" of the Tread. (Hate to say it, but the Toynami version does have the "look" of the connection just right.) I hope future updates from CM's will alleviate our concerns. Gotta admit though, I am digging the beefy, imposing look of CM's Tread in soldier mode. Any official word yet on when CM's Legioss/Tread combo will be released? Graham
I'm not too happy with the look of the CM's Legioss in fighter mode, but all other modes and the Tread look good. It's great it's gonna come with the little Cyclone. Graham

wwwmwww
By the way... why so many spellings of Tread? Roger Harkavy has some documentation that shows it started off as TLEAD. Which is an acronym for Transport Legioss Escort Armored Dreadnought. I've always called it Tread (or Beta, but I know where that name comes from). And this new line art Graham posted calls it Dread. Which I would guess is short for Dreadnought. Just curious, Carl

jenius
LOL Pfunk, going for the hard one first eh? TLEAD has been defined, TREAD was TRans Earth Deployment IIRC. Dread is probably just a scarier name.... BOO! Edit - it's more likely TLEAD became TREAD because TLEAD isn't really pronouncable and it was probably assumed by many that the 'L' was just a romanization error made by early translators. 1st Border Red Devil
Hmm, interesting designs. Call me weird, but I think these two designs fit better with Tommy Yune's VF-Delta Fighter (Transformable AF-03 ConBat) from the early illustration iterations of The Shadow Chronicles as MOSPEADA 2 designs (since The Shadow Chronicles isn't even worth hacking up to make into a Mospeada sequel). The question then becomes, what the frag do you make the story about? Perhaps a resurgent Earth some 20 yrs later that decides it wants to get even with its former colonies for almost fragging the planet with the Anubis-1 Missiles? A Mospeada Civil War? If the inbit scans that were posted here (or the other Legioss thread) are associated with the same project it doesn't look much like a sequel. Maybe a re-telling or something, or an alternate universe sequel. Those inbit are organic, not piloted mecha, or at least the way they are presented make it look that way. I always liked the Mospeada characters and setting, but it was too episodic and could have used some streamlining. So I guess this is one of the few shows I wouldn't mind seeing "re-imagined." Odyn
Well not what we where thinking at all. This was comment was posted over at Captain JLS' blog http://sdf5x.blogspot.com/2007/04/do-we-ha...-expert-in.html "It's not a sequel or a prequel, just a walk down memory lane with Hideki Kakinuma, who created new art to go with the interview. Thanks to Matt Alt who gave me the rundown: He said that because there were no toy sponsors for the Invid he had a totally free hand, and originally wanted 16 different types. These are some that never got used. Interesting: the original Inbit concept was "powered suits for insect creatures," but evolved into giant insect-creatures themselves. He also says that the concept was that they'd encounter more "primitive" versions farther out (from Reflex Point, I assume) that would gradually grow more and more sophisticated and eventually humanoid at the center. But: "Alas...." Also: Originally, he wanted to portray the Inbit as formless, ethereal creatures that came to Earth, sampled and experienced the local environment, and then left, but he couldn't quite flesh out the approach and so abandoned it during the planning stages." jenius
While not as cool as being hints toward a new Mospeada project it's still really cool to see some new Mospeada art highlighting other ways the story could have gone. This part seems backward to me though: Interesting: the original Inbit concept was "powered suits for insect creatures," but evolved into giant insect-creatures themselves. The new art we saw of the Inbit definitely looked to be more in-line with giant insect creatures whereas what we saw in the show definitely seemed to be more in line with creatures using powered-suits. Personally, I prefer how it played out in the show but I do really dig the idea of the Inbit being less evolved the further they were away from the main hive. I'm glad they didn't do 16 different versions... that would have been overkill unless several were more cameo type Inbit that were only seen in hives. Oh well, it's a shame there's not more Mospeada on the way.

Ginrai
Boy, you can sure tell that Kakinuma designed the Inbit while Shinji Aramaki designed the Legioss. Let him do it. Even for a quick little sketch that is not up to Aramaki's standards. In their design partnership, Kakinuma always did the cool, rounded bug-looking things (see also the Paranoids in Gall Force, the Diezalg in Megazone), while Aramaki did the square transforming robots (Legioss, Garland, et cetera). And then they would clean each others' work up!

Graham
Getting back on topic, I'm liking the fighter mode of the CM's Legioss less and less each time I look at it. The nose is far too long and skinny (Mosquito nose syndrome ), the angle at the rear of the cockpit is far too abrupt and I have a nasty feeling that the photo showing the Legioss and Tread connected is how the toy will actually look. I love the battroid mode though and will buy at least one set. Graham
Lonely Soldier Boy
I'm more worried about the shoulders. I think they're too short and look odd in both Soldier and Fighter modes. The Tread on the other hand, looks very good in Soldier mode. Way better than Toynami's IMHO. I wouldn't worry about the linkeage between the two: the Legioss' arm boosters are supposed to connect to those small circular pieces on the chest of the Tread. It's too much of a basic lineart thing for CM's to ignore. Also check out the said arm booster in the latest pics, it looks like a slot (unlike the same piece of the Toynami version, hence my skepticism about its linking capabilities). As it is in the pics, looks like the Tread is having his way with the Legios
Mog
After looking at the front of the Tread last night (see pic here), I too am starting to have concerns about the Legioss/Tread connection. The following two things struck me from the above pic: 1) The front part of the connecting boom is much thinner than the part directly below the Tread. 2) There's a lot of space between the connecting boom and the cockpit/chest of the Tread. When you take these two things into consideration, it's very likely that the pic we all saw IS how the actual Legioss/Tread connection will look. Here's how the combo currently looks: [attachmentid=42232] But if we were to raise up and "push in" the Legioss into the Tread, here's how it may possibly look (apologies for my crappy (and small) MS Paint job here): [attachmentid=42233] Based on all the prototype pics we've seen so far, I don't think my redesign is plausible, especially when we consider what we've seen of the connecting boom. It's just too thin to make up that much of the underside gap. Or we would have a noticeable gap of space between the Legioss and the top of the connecting boom. Hopefully, it's still early in the design cycle. But I would really like CM's to redesign the Legioss/Tread connection. Probably the least drastic way to do this would be to increase the thickness of that connecting boom. It'd make the Legioss sit up higher on the Tread, make the whole combination look more asthetically pleasing and "in-line", and the thicker connecting boom would actually be more accurate to the lineart. As it stands now, I really ain't digging how the connection's looking. Nothing I've seen of the combo, whether it's lineart drawings, models, or even Toynami's prototype, have ever shown that much of drop-off/dip between the Tread and the Legioss. Save
When I picked up the new issue of Hobby Japan, I looked through a few other hobby mags and saw a full page CM's add in one of them and it looks like the Legioss/TREAD will not be Brave Gokin09. The add shows that the Brave Gokin09 will be a Patlabor Griffon. I think its obvious that the Legioss needs some more re-tooling and looks to be pushed back.
