nightmareB4macross Posted Friday at 04:01 AM Posted Friday at 04:01 AM Looks good, and really liking the new sculpture of the 1J head. The 1S could use a bit more height and resembles this mash up way too much. Top half Takatoku and bottom half 1990 Bandai. It can’t be unseen. Since these are prototypes, I am sure it can be corrected. Quote
pengbuzz Posted Friday at 04:15 AM Posted Friday at 04:15 AM Looks like they reworked the heads. Quote
Shawn Posted Friday at 04:18 AM Posted Friday at 04:18 AM Looking back over the 1/55 VF-1J Heads there are quite a lot of variations and interpretations! I like the Toynami interpretation. And weirdly like that they kept the thick antenna for the 1/55 toy design. Quote
Shawn Posted Friday at 04:32 AM Posted Friday at 04:32 AM The VF-1S has more interpretations than anything...including that 1990 release (ugh!) Here are some other alternatives for comparison. Its fun digging through the HD archives for the old stuff (I actually own that 2001 proto. Its a bit undersized, but still cool) The Barretta still looks awesome over all these years doesn't it? He nailed it. I can't remember if the Antennas could stay on during transformation, they were pretty tall. Quote
26662 Posted Friday at 06:26 AM Posted Friday at 06:26 AM I finally completed my collection of 1/55s maybe 2 years ago so I don’t *need* any more 1/55s, but I will def pick up a few of each model just to support the line and Toynami. Quote
grogall Posted Friday at 07:17 AM Posted Friday at 07:17 AM Could be interesting! What is Toynami's quality so far? Hope they make a "D" 🤗 Quote
Hiriyu Posted Friday at 09:02 AM Posted Friday at 09:02 AM 1 hour ago, grogall said: What is Toynami's quality so far? Pretty chequered. Their better products have been manufactured by third parties, where Toynami functions as a brand partner/regional distributor. The homegrown Toynami stuff ranges from "ok" to "disgusting". Quote
Radioguy Posted Friday at 03:32 PM Posted Friday at 03:32 PM Again, no mention of die-cast? If none, I think I'm out. Quote

Black Valkyrie Posted Friday at 05:11 PM Posted Friday at 05:11 PM Didn`t expect this, I was hoping for Bandai to reissue the DYRL VFs last year but nothing. My concern with those are QC. Quote
Shawn Posted Friday at 05:20 PM Posted Friday at 05:20 PM Since Toynami has been trying to build this thing since the early 2000s and kept getting denied, I strongly suspect the diecast will be diecast as it is on the takas. Quote
Froy Posted Friday at 06:32 PM Posted Friday at 06:32 PM (edited) Valkyrire mode? Lol. As far as remember they never used the name Valkyrie in Robotech, at less in the TV series in the 80s. In general they were referd as Varitechs. In Mexico we got Guardian (gerealk) and Bateloid (batrroid). For fighter mode I don't recall at the moment. Edited Friday at 06:36 PM by Froy Quote

vladykins Posted Friday at 09:34 PM Posted Friday at 09:34 PM Interested in getting a better look at the retooled -1A head. Quote
jvmacross Posted Friday at 09:52 PM Posted Friday at 09:52 PM I'll bite.... Upscaled "chunky" would have been a much better idea.... And not releasing a VF-1D would be a wasted opportunity... $150-200? Quote

Maybe along with new head sculpts there will be new hands, antenna for Gerwalk mode, and a pilot figure in newly designed cockpit for Fighter mode. Quote

I feel like nothing good can come from "improvements" on an HG/Toynami project. I just want the QC of the original 80s toys (tight clicky ratchets and no gaps) with tampo printing. Quote
sh9000 Posted Saturday at 05:06 PM Posted Saturday at 05:06 PM They'll probably be responsible for just the toy packaging. Quote
MKT Posted Saturday at 06:20 PM Posted Saturday at 06:20 PM At the very least Toynami has to ensure it has the same build quality & heft of the original, remastered tooling or not. Cutting any corners like reducing diecast or cheapening out plastic quality will only pile on more hate to the 'other' franchise holder. At end of day I'd just like to see better quality, or rather, competent toys for the other side and it now looks to be off to a good resurgence with the announcement of this, Takara, Pose+ & the already released MoShow. nightmareB4macross Posted Saturday at 08:38 PM Posted Saturday at 08:38 PM I was today years old when I finally realized the cover of the Macross Design Works is an actual 1/55. 🤯 Quote
