It reminds me of early nineties comics where a gun wasn’t good enough unless it was ten guns in one.

Streaming is definitely an issue, but if they change the formula and release the movies to streaming a bit later, it may help. Somehow people went to go see the new mission impossible movie on a non holiday Wednesday night for some reason, so people definitely want to see a good movie, just the current formula of crap movies with a big franchise won’t work. You gotta use the potential of a great franchise and get the writers and deliver something worth people’s time

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, in theaters summer 2023
Big s replied to Duke Togo's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
They did have plans for a show, but after all the talk and overall lack of interest, who knows if that’s gonna happen. A lot of people seem to dislike ms Fleabag and that may not work out for viewership- 355 replies

It had an unfortunate stink around it from the previous shows, but it also got bad word of mouth due to the bad first two episodes. It’s hard for a show to pick up an audience that gave up before the show started getting good in the third one.

The 'Hey look at this really cool model build I saw' post

That does look pretty great, and I don’t even like the 25’s much -
It probably would have made more if it wasn’t for the stink of recent Disney. Eternals was horribly forgettable and convoluted, Dr Strange wasn’t very good, I personally liked the last Thor, but the word of mouth wasn’t there from others and Wakanda Forever was unfortunately missing its star. Ant man came out with bad writing and cheap looking effects. So to be honest it was a lackluster line of films leading up to it, yet it still ended up getting an audience. As far as DC, their strategy for movies has been a mistake. The weird idea of connecting movies and things that don’t have anything to do with anything is odd. Although Joker and the Batman did alright. The Snyderverse was a total failure though that started with having the greatest set of A list characters and found a way to make them boring. There were a couple movies there that were pretty good, but it’s tough for a great film like the Suicide Squad to bring an audience that had recently seen the crappy Suicide Squad. When the most likable characters in the Snyderverse were Wonder Woman, which had one good movie and another crappy one and a guy who talks to fish then you know the franchise was doomed. Sony put out some crap as well, but that didn’t stop audiences from checking out their Spider-Man films. I will sound like a broken record and say again that I hate the multiverse/time travel gimmick, but people went to see those movies and with the most recent one coming at such a rough time for superheroes, people still wanted to see it. The bottom line is that if they take the time to put together great movies, people will show up wether it’s a superhero movie or a guy flying a jet

I’ve said it before, but I still don’t believe in superhero fatigue. Give people a great movie and they’ll show up. If there’s good word from people and critics, then people will check it out. That goes for shows as well as films. People are excited for The Boys and Invincible, but could care less for poorly written shows like She Hulk or Mrs Marvel. If Gunn can bring an audience with Guardians of the Galaxy 3, he’s got a good chance at this new project, but if the writing isn’t there then nobody will care.

I don’t think a complete recasting would work as well as with Bond. We’ve all grown up with several bond actors, but recasting Indy would be like recasting main characters from Die Hard, or Lethal Weapon. Those films had iconic stars. They would have to get an amazing writing team together to make that transition. Mad Max was a very rare exception, but since this is Disney, it would probably end up more like Solo at best- 355 replies

Honestly, I’ve never been so excited for such a nothing bit of news. But whatever, I’m celebrating anyway

I’d watch that just for the Green Lantern

The house we looked at before settling on this one had a shed with electrical lighting, a work table and extra outlets. It wasn’t too ideal otherwise since it had stupidly thin stairs that would’ve infuriated me daily since they built the main floor on top and there was next to no yard at all. Most of the yard was the shed. It had other issues as well, but at least the temperature was pretty low for Southern California. the shed did seem pretty cool though and is something I would consider building at this house

That’s a pretty cool set. I like those Hammond collection dinos and the Spielberg looks surprisingly good at that scale -
There is mention of granting a wish and maybe that deal was also given to others, but not shown in the trailer. It might not be tournament in the sense of a less than friendly voluntary competition, but more of a forced tournament with the participants not knowing about the competition being set up.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, in theaters summer 2023

Back then it didn’t feel like it was happening in every single movie. Definitely Die hard tried with two kids, but I don’t think they were marketed as the takeover character and Mutt was in a less than great movie, but it just feels like right now it’s every film franchise that Disney owns that they want to do the crushed heroes with the female taking over. I don’t think anyone would say much if it was only once every few years and I also get that in the case of Wakanda forever that it was done out of a tragic necessity, but it was a bit overdone by now only replacing Black Panther, but Iron Man as well in the same film. It’s just way too overdone all within only a few years. Disney just doesn’t have the writers to handle these stories. Prey was a great example of an exception to the female taking the lead, it didn’t have a broken heroe story and some simple writing, but it worked really well. It shows that the concept can work if you don’t follow the same checklist routine. As far as the male characters before that taking over, it wasn’t that often. Either that or it could have been that movies just weren’t pumped out like crazy back then, so it felt like someone tried an experiment that failed and a couple years later someone tried and failed. Maybe they just shouldn’t replace the characters in the first place and just do something original, but we know they won’t.- 355 replies

I get that feeling as well, but with all the recent failures there may be a change in formula sooner than later if Disney wants to stay relevant and earn money again.- 355 replies

I’ve been curious about the mask thing. Deadpool didn’t seem to mind having a comic character with full mask and comic style white eyes, I’d be interested to Hugh in a mask as well, even if it’s only a few scenes

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, in theaters summer 2023
Big s replied to Duke Togo's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Right now, it would feel different at least. It’s not something I would have complained about 2 years ago, but it’s something that Disney is running into the ground over and over. It’s like a copy paste machine across all their franchises at this point. It’s also a problem when they can’t hire good writers for these franchises. I have no problem with the idea of a female lead, but when it’s an overdone gimmick and done poorly, then it’s just becomes boring and nothing to get excited over. If they want people to show up for a movie that’s got a copy paste feel, then they better bring some amazing writers to offset the weaknesses- 355 replies

I don’t think it’s as much as people didn’t like what they saw, but more of a bad word of mouth and terrible trailers to back up the bad word of mouth. I think people are sick of the destroyed heroes. It works once in a while, but most of the time, it depresses the fan base. This movie from what has been said, even by those that liked it just hit every trope that people are sick of in movies and shows right now. The completely destroyed hero, the female character trying to take over, and the biggest thing people are sick of and that’s a time travel/ multiverse gimmick to fix the problem. They just didn’t want to try to give the fans anything new. And they have already seen that these plots don’t work and keep pumping out the same stories over and over.- 355 replies

Oddly it seems the just rereleased the old kits. I wouldn’t mind seeing new versions though.
