so what kind of maintenance would you do to keep the hips tight? are we talking about disassembling and using nail polish (technique on a $10 transformers deluxe toy) or something else?

FWIW my armored ozma hips are only a tad loose, same with the VF-27. My "movie colored" super alto is the worse offender. lets hope the yf-29 (mine is still in fighter mode) is better.

the arms are the same deal, plastic on plastic friction joints. The shoulders are new, no ratchets.

the thigh swivels are loose. GERWALK joints move easily but are strong enough to hold a pose. The knee ratchets are stiff. The ankle extension bit locks into position and the ankle itself is a metal ball joint.

The hip ball joint on my copy is a bit loose, nothing bad but I would expect it to eventually get suffer the same fate as the other DX valks and need maintenance over the life of the toy.

Still thrilled for V2s?? :p

Old version 1 owners should start selling their version 1 toys now and see if they can get good value for them while they are still "current" on ebay. That's what I would do if I had any earlier vf-25s. I'm sure collectors who never open stuff wouldnt care that much about things like "how chunky the robot is vs the cg model from the show" and stuff like that.

yeah, I'm especially thrilled that they're using a higher grade of plastic... considering my dx 25 armored ozma is literally crumbling apart in some places.

I wonder if gray colored plastic is just inherently weaker and prone to self destructing. It seems that the majority of the breaks and cracks on my valks that occur without hardly any interaction are mostly on gray plastic pieces.

- Original 1/72 VF-11B, gray plastic connecting the legs broke under its own weight.

- Left hip of my Gamlin VF-22S: cracked on its own.

- Lower swiveling portion of both thighs on Ivanov's SV-51, internal connecting pieces where the screw goes into crumbled over time and the thighs split in half, forcing me to glue the two halves back together for both legs.

- Gray shoulder socket pieces for VF-0A, both shoulders split on their own.

- Ozma's VF-25S wing hinge split at the corner.

- Other people have reported the gray portion of the YF-19's arm also breaking seeming fairly commonly.

The only other cracks or breaks I've had with my valks that didn't involve gray pieces were a self destructing left thigh on Nora's SV-51 in a similar fashion to Ivanov's and the cracked shoulder hinge on the VT-1 which is the fault of the pin used.

Everyone be careful about the wing root joints.

I'm pretty sure people are trying to move it backward farther than it should go in Battroid Mode.

I was lucky with old 1/72 vf-11. I got the fixed release that came with the fast packs included. This is the version people should have got.

To me Ivanov and gamlin are more close to black than grey. I think white is more worrying because doesn't it hide stress marks better? If you are getting one secondhand you won't be able to see them as clearly.

My 1/48 vf-1 low viz is holding up fine. heh My first yamato.

I haven't noticed anything like that on any of the other grey toys that I have but maybe you're on to something. Maybe grey needs more pigment and that weakens the plastic?

But I'm fairly certain in the case of the ozma it's because of the quality of the plastic. It's hard and brittle and cheap.

Sounds a lot like GPS (gold plastic syndrome) on old transformers.

I agree with eugimon on the cracked plastic issue, probably the person tried to fold the wings all the way up. I folded mine gently until I can feel a little bit of resistance, then I stopped.

As for my unit, no major complaint other than the left engine nacelle is a bit looser than the right one, and the right cannon being real tight and hard to pull out.

Gerwalk mode is a joy, as evident from what other members posted, the nose able to droop so low yet so stable. And the rotating engines add dynamic to what one can pose with the Gerwalk mode.

It may not be perfect, but it's beautiful!

Can someone post a shot with it next the the VF-19 in fighter mode for both? Wonder how wide it is compared to the Kai

don't have access to a camera right now but the Kai is a little wider at the wing tips and the tiniest bit longer in fightermode.

Thanks! With 99% of my valks in storage I forgot how big some of these can get in fighter mode until i received my Kai (the only on not in storage). So just thinking of space and seeing how big the Kai is I was curious about fighter size for the YF-29 which if i am lucky I can have for my birthday.

I don't see why they can't be guns. They can be fired in fighter mode to get enemies off your back or fire flares. Beam saber would make more sense than verniers IMO.

I think they are guns. At the end of the day, the YF-29 is a VF-25 with built in fast-tornado pack, so the extra guns do make sense to me

I really like that a Bandai valk finally has articulated hands but does it still require the "karate hands" to transform to fighter mode or are these just provided for the salute poses?

just for posing. Transforms just fine with the posable hands, it actually comes packaged with the posable hands on.
