Gundam Show Thread - MSG thru GQuuuuuuX
Hikuro replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I've said it before I believe in last years teaser, it's like they spent all their budget on hyper realistic scenery and backgrounds then said screw it on the rest. I liked the first movie, despite the fact it had very little mobile suit action let alone involvement and dealt more with the character drama and slow story progression. It still had some of the best animation a Gundam anime has ever had. But this though......it feels like a step back because they're trying to blend in realistic looking environments with 2D animation and jarring camera movements. I'm not to sure I'll be able to handle watching it like this.- 4009 replies

If I remember correctly Club Tamashii is a Japanese exclusive loyalty program. Depending on how much Tamashii Nations Exclusive items you buy directly from them you advance a ladder that allows you to enter lotteries and buy items that other members and the general public doesn’t have access to. I assume all the stores that act as a middleman for these items have the highest level of this membership scheme.

I’ve been hearing that at this point there won’t be a season three and they’re just mostly gonna work the character into movie and show cameos. If that’s all true, then it really was a crappy way to end a show

I was under the impression that it was kind of just a 25A or G head too, but upon closer inspection, it doesn't seem like it. The A and G don't have those vulcan(?) humps flanking the laser's mount, and the helmet contours are totalle different, not to mention the laser is different shaped. It's actually the 25F that looks closest to it. I think there's something wrong with the 25F line art you used for comparison. The red sensor box where the laser would normally be is totally missing. Inside those black stripes, similar to where the 24 has the vulcan humps, the 25F also has them. I can't tell if they are still there in the 25F's line art. The next closest thing is actually the 31A, having a single laser, and the vulcan humps, but the designs and proportions are off. One thing that's for sure is that the 24 definitely stows its head facing backwards. I'd say hacking (or clipping?) together a laser from 25A or 31A and copying 31A's lack of ears to the 25F's helmet would probably be the simplest approximation for the visible parts of the head. For the hidden parts, I guess you could take inspiration even from the YF-25, since it's the closest link to the 24 that we have. But I think there might have been lore that the YF's head looks intentionally primitive with a giant camera for testing reasons, so it may not truly represent any sort of lineage to the 24's designs.

I much prefer the original chonky design. I'll stick with my Yamato.
-
I think they're making lemonade saying you can stow the gun in fighter unlike the old 1/65 they made.

I just noticed this shot wasn't floating around before, I think... maybe it was added later? bandai's not even trying to hide that they are stowing the gunpod wrong lol

The Transformers Thread (licensed) Next
M'Kyuun replied to mikeszekely's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I've no interest in the Timelines stuff thus far, but for a second, I entertained the thought of getting Armada Nemesis Prime, primarily for the articulated minicons, but $90 is far too steep a price for what you're getting. The way prices are rising on these things, I'm not sure how much longer I'll continue collecting, at least at my current level, which has already tapered over the last couple of years. I'm in for SS86 Starscream and Skywarp and for figs like Mirage that are in need of a good G1 mainline or SS figure, and any remaining minibots, but thanks to the main lines over the last few years, I have a pretty solid G1 collection with only a few holes to fill. Once those are filled, I may just reluctantly and regrettably retire from collecting. It's just getting too expensive. Too, I'm out of room for these things, so I also need to find some more storage/display solutions. Funny, when we moved from our two BR apartment, which itself seemed large to us initially, into our house, it felt like we had so much room. Our house is about 1600 sq ft, not huge by any stretch, but not small either, relative to many of the houses here in town. It took less than 20 years to fill much of that space, a great deal of it with my toy collections. So much plastic.- 17736 replies

Just came back from watching it. Yes sucks that Bruce isn’t in it but I had fun watching it. Lots of call outs to the previous two movies. NIN was great. They had a hard soundtrack to follow but the music fits. Ending and Post credit scene was definitely a setup for a Tron 4 I didn’t hate Jared in this movie, he was fine.

I don't understand what I just watched. Is this for the current audience or new audience or older audience? I can't describe the premise or tone. You could take that trailer and reedit to make trailers for at least two different shows.

All that trailer shows me is that this show in NOT for me. Hope they get the new fans they want, 'cus I don't think they'll be getting any old ones back with this.

Sad Day, Great actress....

I'm on vacation and had originally planned to fly out to the USAF and the Air and Space museum, but the government shutdown screwed that up so I went to a Lego shop instead and picked up some old school lego holy grail items. Yes, that's the Black Monarch's Castle in the back. 99.99% complete except for the string for the drawbridge. 😉

They don't twist, those are separate shoulder parts. Believe me, if you twist those things hard enough they're snapping off.

Watched the movie THE SUBSTANCE on HBO tonight. Take a dash of the Overlook hotel from The Shinning, Smeagol & Gollum, Carrie and possibly Requiem for a dream (ending sequence). Demi Moore wants to relive her youth, and it comes at one hell of a cost.

I fully agree that the planes are intended to have key visual differences between them, but the items you point out along with the fact that the legs/engines are truly identical, are what make me think the line art was a purely cosmetic quick rinse on a 25 design that didn't get a lot of thought put into it. For instance, VertexNebula's model on Cults3D does a good job of making that canopy look decent in 3D, but also makes it clear that the flat lower edge really works against the flow of the fuselage and was only ever considered in 2D. I have no doubt that if it were ever rendered on screen as an actual object, the differences would be revised to be much more distinct. I can buy that the nose is intended to have a different shape and thickness to it, and may straighten it up to be a bit more 31-ish. That bulb feature on the side of the nosecone is certainly meant to be something more than markings. What I'm really wondering is what the head should look like. The line art is basically a 25A, but there's no way that's what's intended to be under the hood. Again, I don't think anyone has actually thought that deep into this design to have something in mind, but that would definitely be an area the two planes would be distinct from each other. Oh well, plenty to do before I hit that point, but will have an eye out for suitable candidates in the meanwhile.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Seto Kaiba replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The Banished Court Magician Aims to Become the Strongest is probably going to be the first title I drop this season. The writing is beyond terrible. It's bad enough that it's one of those isekai-adjacent Gary Stu power fantasy titles full of thinly-written characters and cliched interactions. The worst part is that, as of just a couple minutes into the second episode, it's clear that the entire premise of the series is itself a gaping plot hole. The translation quality is AWFUL too. -
Thanks. I had to take a bit of a break due to 50+ hour work weeks and being in the last year of school. At my age, that's been a bit of a big leap back into the process, and wrapping up a 2nd degree just for work promotion is not something I ever really expected to have to do. I'm still working on some other things, but at a snail's pace. This is not the easiest project, but one I feel I should finish being so old now.

Boldly written by Pakleds, for Pakleds. 🤮 If that trailer was supposed to make me want to watch the series, oof... mission failed with distinction. That just looks like more of everything that already wasn't working in Star Trek: Discovery.
