Whats next, the remake of STAR WARS episodes 4-6?

Don't tempt fate. They should remake eps 4-6 and replace Boba Fett with Jar-Jar!

Then Obi-Wans failure would be complete.

The new one will introduce the idea of nano-technology and make the film a large-scale sci-fi action piece. Cronenberg is not yet involved in the new project.

Ehren Kruger ("The Skeleton Key") will pen the script and produce alongside Daniel Bobker.

Oh god, I cried ;_;

Please no more, it hurts, it hurts!

A Drop Dead Fred remake with Russell Brand as Fred. Shoot me now. I know that the original had problems but I doubt that they could ever top Rik Mayall.

If Phoebe Cates isn't in it, then it's pointless.

As long as they make her take some acting lessons. Sure, she is nice to look at, but she couldn't act her way out of a paper bag.

Having had an invisible friend as a child I am OUTRAGED that they would consider doing this. The original was only good because it had Rick Mayall in it.

Has HollyWood got film makers cancer or something.

Are they aware that buy making crapo films by ripping of ok ideas from yesteryear they are actually encouraging us to download films from torrent sites instead of spending our hard earned in the cinema, as they "may" be not worth paying for.

I dunno, a remake of Total Recall might be a good thing. I thought the production, screenplay, special effects, etc of the movie sucked a$$. It is a good story IMHO, but was executed so badly. Paul Verhoeven is such an overrated filmmaker IMO. I get that his movies are supposed to be satires, but it just comes across as cheesy B-movie fluff.

I would have loved for a James Cameron or Ridley Scott to do this movie. If Neil Moritz is the producer I wonder who will actually direct it. The article mentions Original, as in Original Productions I presume. That would be interesting since I believe Original does all those reality bases shows like Deadliest Catch and Ax Men.

I've never really liked Star Trek, so I can't really answer that...except to say that of course it's canon, since what is or isn't canon is decided by Paramount, not by Roddenberry.

I remember seeing a documentary or reading something about Star Trek in that there is a Star Trek bible that the writers reference. IIRC this was created very early on. It defines a lot of parameters of the Star Trek universe. Not just with technologies but all the alien races and cultures as well. I think that's why the franchise has evolved so well IMO. There is a guide to keep the writing in check, so you don't see too many inconsistencies with technology, etc in the various series.

That's true, and I remember reading the reason the set "Enterprise" in the early days of the Federation ws to get around a lot of the more restirctive sections of the Star Trek Bible.

I think that each series had a "bible". It was available for purchase if you wished to write Trek stories to submit to the producers, that way you could follow their "rules" which was stupid. Friend of mine had one. Here is an example of one on ebay...

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/1992-STAR-TREK-DEEP...p3286.m63.l1177

Personally, I think that it does not help the franchise evolve. I understand the need for some rules when writers (You could not have a random writer come in with a script where 7 of 9 has sex with Janeway) are producing scripts, but primarily they should be there to protect the budget of a show and little else. Everything else should be up for grabs and if somebody writes a script that is TOO outlandish you just reject it.

There was supposed to be a bible written for the New Doctor Who produced in America in the 90's. That sounded really outlandish compared to the original series. I would love to have a copy to look at anyway. (If you want to know how weird they thought about going with the New Who, look at this.....

http://www.shannonpatricksullivan.com/drwho/serials/tvm.html

Here is an example of how weird it could have been....

It introduces the Doctor and the Master, who are half-brothers and both sons of the lost Time Lord explorer Ulysses, Borusa's son. When the evil Master becomes President of the Time Lords upon Borusa's death, the Doctor flees Gallifrey in a rickety old TARDIS to find Ulysses. Borusa's spirit becomes enmeshed in the TARDIS, enabling Borusa to continue to advise his grandson. The Doctor takes the TARDIS to "the Blue Planet" (Earth), to search for Ulysses -- this being the native world of the Doctor's mother.

I wouldn't even call that a reboot, I'd call that more a sequel. So I wouldn't be against it then, but if it were to revamp existing Predator characters in a jungle earth and whatever, THEN I would have an issue.

Maybe we need a thread dedicated to unwanted sequels as well as remakes? ( I would post a link to one, but Dark Horizons is down)

<Reboot, Restart, Rebrand> = <milking, igotnonewideaslol, plagiarism>

Sometimes it's a necessary evil for some franchises to survive.... I mean batman was way way back and it keeps on just reinventing itself... either that or you kill off the series since the franchise is 40 or 50 years old...

Quoting Garth at Dark Horizons.....

It's official, with the 80's already well plundered it seems the remake boat is moving into the 90's.

What upcoming remake prompts this comment.

Stallone's Cliffhanger is going to be remade!! FFS!!!!

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/14136/-cl...e-in-the-works/

I wonder what the quickest time between original and remake is. Any ideas??

Oh yeah, a remake of Mona Lisa is on the way too......

A remake of Cliffhanger.....Really?????? Is Hollywood that desperate? Someone give me a $100,000 for a script and I'll write something worth going to see at the movies!!

And movie companies wonder why their loosing money at the box office every year.....

Scifi, Action, drama or Historical, you tell me and I'll write it. B))

Why ???

The original was at best an OK action romp. The only best bit was at the begining when Stalone drops the girl. The camera work was excellent, after that it was average action fun.

Im sure there are several hundred kids in elementary school who could write some scripts if Hollywood is that desperate.

My god give a hundred monkeys typewriters and see what they come up with.

OK, this one is a TV remake, not a film remake, but it rates a mention.

Prepare for a remake of V. Here is a synopsis of what they have planned:

**************************

Much like the '80s version, the show will open with an enormous army of spaceships hovering over the world's major cities.

The human-like Visitors' (who're actually reptilian underneath) say they've come to help Earth, but their motives are nefarious.

The new "V" will center on Erica Evans, a Homeland Security agent with an aimless son who's got problems. When the aliens arrive, her son gloms on to them -- causing tension within the family.

As in the original however several storylines will unfold simultaneously.

**************************

...

We now have a date and a cast:

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/14196/abc...10-tv-schedule/

V

(Sci-Fi Drama, Mid-Season)

"V" is a re-imagining of the 1980's miniseries about the world's first encounter with an alien race in which the aliens call themselves The Visitors, and have a seemingly friendly agenda that may or may not be a cover for something more malevolent.

"V" stars Elizabeth Mitchell as Erica Evans, Morris Chestnut as Ryan Nichols, Joel Gretsch as Father Jack Landry, Lourdes Benedicto as Valerie Stevens, Logan Huffman as Tyler Evans, Laura Vandervoort as Lisa, with Morena Baccarin as Anna and Scott Wolf as Chad Decker.

NBC and FOX have also released their Fall lineups but I didn't see many remakes there...just lots of similar-sounding shows.

Oddly this may actually work. Much like BSG it has a fondness and nostalgic vibe to it. Make it more "real" and gritty pop in a few cameos from the original and et volia you may have a contender to take up the slack that BSG has left.

Don't always like the reimaginings so much. I thought that they did a good job with Dr Who. Continue the original continuity but bring things up to date.
