Wait a minute, is anybody lumping in the Dark Knight Trilogy with the post-Nolan DCU? I’m certainly not. That would be like combining a show about transforming bikes with one about transforming planes just because they had things that transformed.

Dark Crystal age of resistance on Netflix

I think I was 8 when I saw it. I remember thinking, aw man, this thing has puppets in it! I'm too old for puppets! And then they showed the Skeksis. Funny, how all thoughts of puppets being silly flew right out the door.- 88 replies

The soundtrack and pacing of songs with the tone and flow of action was really top notch. I am generally down on how Marvel movies in general have neglected their soundtracks, but his one, Black Panther and perhaps Doctor Strange are the exceptions. Of course, that could have been all Sony's doing.

They made the pupils bigger to "fix" the eyes. Interesting. It does actually make them seem less strange.

Dark Crystal age of resistance on Netflix

I do hope that they don't completely rule out the use of technology to overcome limitations in having the puppets move particularly during scenes that require a range to be crossed or speed. I think puppetry can be amazing for intimate, close up shots, but once a chase ensues, it becomes very obvious that these are constructs wobbling on top of platforms. A tiny, little bit of CG could go a long way to blending all those limitations away. Anyways I'm happy just to get more Dark Crystal, my oldest kid is eager to see. The wife however can't watch evern old school Star Trek due to uncanny valley issues and thinks this will give the kids nightmares. I had to get sneaky to show my kids Labyrinth. They enjoyed it, but she wasn't happy that I showed it to them.- 88 replies

Yeah that's it. By comparison there's this from 1996's Beast Wars. It's completely fluid, at least to my eyes, but that also make it seem "unnatural" because the movement is so constant and even: So yeah something in between is better, but the degree to which Dragon Prince, Blame!, and Spider-verse are taking it seems extreme. I haven't seen Spider-verse yet and can't wait. Trying to not watch anymore teasers and trailers since it seems so good.

Gotta say, this is a neat little design, seems like a riff on Bumblebee's cybertron design: https://maastoys.com/product/skiff/ Ha! "Courting" pun intended? Oh well, I do hope they don't get in trouble. If there is one thing, one tiny thing that I think HG actually improved on, over any of the original works, it is in giving Southern Cross somewhat of an ending, so I don't mind the RT association with SC. A shame the original never got a proper ending.

Don't watch the show, but gotta say, that was a nice transition. I always thought that if some intrepid fan editor whittled down Smallville to 4 hours per season, it would have been one of the best versions of Supes ever. That show had a lot of good moments, mixed in with way too much CW melodrama, but it's depiction of Zod and Lex was so much better than 90% of what we've gotten.

Exactly my issue with Polygon Pictures' Blame! on Netflix. I remember hearing on the SpeakerPodcast that the frame rate was intentional, to give it a more hand drawn feel, since older animation had 12 drawings per second of film and this style is meant as an homage to hand drawn animation rather than something computer generated. Personally, I don't like it. IIRC, Human vision cannot discern beyond 60 frames per second in film (not sure about real life). And since it's obvious that this was CG, my mind sees the absence of fluid motion and has to work harder to see beyond it. So yeah, the stutteriness bothers me too.

All Things Videogame Related: EXTREME VS!!

Some games are exclusive to a given platform. Street Fighter V was initially a PS4 exclusive because Sony paid Capcom to develop it. You can now play it on PC through Steam, but not on Xbox. That made the choice very easy for me.- 6676 replies

New Macross TV Series in 20xx (sometime this decade)
Mazinger replied to Tochiro's topic in Movies and TV Series
Interesting. That’s the second time I’ve read a quote of Legend of the Galactic Heroes in the last month. The first was in book two of the Three Body Problem series. I think I should watch that next. -
Sad there's never been a widely sold VF-14, Protodevlin figs, or Vajra for that matter. I googled around for any kits based on the VF-14 and guess where I found pics and a kit - that's right, MWF, back from 2013. Hopefully, Bandai has a prototype they would deem us peasants lucky enough to purchase in HM-R form. Feels like there's a hole without a proper enemy fighter to pew-pew against with my chunky VF-17d's. Oh, Bandai, also a VF-11 MAXL, while you're at it.

Seems like the Mothra designers were taking cues from the Battra design, which is not at all a bad thing:

I'd be forever indebted for a text translation, of course, if we could buy it in English, with money going back to the original creators, that would be awesome. Oh well, one can dream...

Maybe King will scale the Big G and try to poke him in the eyes. I read a comment on another site where the poster cited that Kong was young and still growing and since this is 50 years or so later, we’ll maybe that’s what will happen here. Honestly, the director for GvsK has their work cut out for them. This seems like a very hard act to follow. Of course Skull Island did end up surprising me, so who knows.

Damn that fig is gonna set me back a few bucks. I hadn't seen these posted before. Need to check the shfiguarts thread. Wonder what the scale is and how much King Ghidora will go for.

I don't know. I considered that for a second, but then looked at Mothra's legs while she was flying and now think it's possible that she was almost taking a dirt nap, but decides she has to come back and save the Big G.

And I still contend that "Mothra 2: The Undersea Battle" ripped off Macross 7. Mothra 2's Dagahra is like a copy+paste of 7's Grabil and it takes place above the sunken ruins of an ancient civilization which created the Dagahra as a weapon. Love me some Mosura, but gotta give credit where it's due. "Seven did it first" as some podcasters often say.
