  1. ^ This 100x's. Initially I was thrown off by the first episode. I thought there was too much retconning going on and stopped watching. This week I decided to keep going and, oh man, did it get good fast. I'm very impressed with Netflix's animation productions. I don't know how much credit is due to them versus say, the individual production houses, but Voltron, Dragon Prince, Castlevania, and now She-Ra, have proven solid. It really makes me wish that somehow they might throw money at remakes of certain shows which had solid concepts, but never achieved the love they deserved, like the Thundercats 2011 version. I also wouldn't mind "rebuilds" of shows like SD Southern Cross, or say, Mospeada. Yes, we'll always have the originals, but I want more and if it was a collaboration with the original creators, it could really be something. I've been thinking recently a lot about the explosion of Sci-Fi that occurred in the early 80's just after the Big Bang that was Star Wars in '77. If you look up the list of genre movies that came out between 1980 and 1984 it's incredible, and I think there was a synergy there with the anime being produced at the time.
  2. Back when I first started dating my wife (who also watched RT as a kid), she took a trip to Mexico and came back with issue 1 of the Mexican release of Love and War: It was one of many signs that she was the one for me. It now decorates the Detolf behind one of my Chunky Monkeys.
  3. I don't think I would ever spend money on these, but they seem almost worth it in that thay are so bad, that it actually makes them kind of good. I, mean, I thought I had seen it all with the Minmei from the first episodes where she goes ballistic, but this is just, wow. Seriously. Compared to this, no one should ever complain about the Wildstorm/Udon comics from years back. They at least tried to have the characters look like what they did in the series.
  4. Very nice. Now he needs a Cy-kill to play with.
  5. So I binge watched this with my seven year old and we both enjoyed it. She liked the excitement and silliness. She enjoys most cartoons on Netflix to one degree or another. The following is almost completely spoiler free. Here's what I liked: - Character development: They didn't skimp. Particularly with the villains. The villains are actually the best characters in the show, which in my book is usually a good sign. Side-kicks are also interesting and there's plenty of easter-eggs for fans of the original. - Stories: So far, so good. I'd put it on par with Netflix's Voltron, but behind Dragon Prince and Avatar. Eager for season 2. What did not annoy me: - Animation: While it doesn't have the retro charm of the rotoscoping from the original series, it's actually well done. The quality is consistent. Movement is fluid and there's plenty of color. The not-so-good: - Hordack: In the original was really one of the best things about the show. He consistently delivered laughs and through his schemes we got to see what made him an interesting bad guy. We have yet to see that and the show is definitely seems to be setting itself up for another season. While the original showed the horde as fascist occupiers constantly wrecking havoc, this season was all about the core characters and how they related to one another. My hope is that we will see more of the evil in season 2 and spend maybe a bit less on the interpersonal. Overall, a another solid entry for Netflix's animation library. It's interesting how that is starting to define Netflix. Must be because it's cheap to produce versus live action stuff. Having just watched this and Castlevania and considering Voltron and Dragon Prince, Netflix seems to do animation well.
  6. I had been thinking more about ride armors of late. I’ve been rewatching series with my youngest in English, you know, RT, and the original with my oldest who doesn’t have any issues keeping up with the subtitles and thought, what the heck, I have enough LEGO that I should be able put together something parts-formerish and voila: I didn’t expect to get something as complete as this so soon, but obviously with some better matching parts and a few things reworked, it could be nice. Since it’s using a lot of technic elements, it’s easy to lock things into place. So that was my Saturday, motorcycle tooling...
  7. I've been looking forward to this. More so than ever in-coming He-Man movie that David Goyer scrambled up a treatment for. At least this has JMS behind it. If you haven't seen the Netflix 'Power of Greyskull' documentary and are a fan of MOTU, I recommend it.
  8. I sometimes wish some fan with serious editing chops would take the whole series and whittle it down to something like an 8 hour fan edit. I really like it but there is more than a bit of redundant footage and pacing issues.
  9. So the little experience that I got chopping up a chunky 1/55 gave me the idea to try creating some figures for a game I'm really into, Darkstalkers. The game is a classic of the Street Fighter-style genre, but has never been as popular and never had a good toy line produced. SOTA toys did make a great Street Fighter line and produced some proto-types for Darkstalkers, but they never got made and sold. So I thought I'd give it a shot. Mind you, my painting skills are REALLY poor, I just don't have the patience for it. More at: https://flic.kr/s/aHsmqtSdZh I have some more characters on the way, such as another sculpt on top of LEGO, for Sasquatch and some more basic conversions for the Vampire, Dimitri, and the Damphyr, Donovan.
  10. I been playing with replacing some missing parts on an old Gakken Mospeada Ride Armor with LEGO approximations so I went a googlin' and turned up this remarkable MOC: http://www.moc-pages.com/moc.php/438036 A fully transformable Legioss. I am very impressed. Tempted to reverse engineer it.

Great, the HLJ checkout finally returns me a page, and I get an out of stock notice. Calling it a night, good luck folks.

I managed to add one to my cart at HLJ, and got this message: "These items will be charged and enter your Private Warehouse when available." Trying to check out doesn't seem to work however, should I just assume that I good for now?

How long does HLJ usually take?

I tried to pay through nin-nin-game and almost immediately got a text from my bank about another charge for $750. Not sure what that was about as I don't recall that so replied to prevent my transaction, now my card is de-activated for a bit. Guess I'm sitting this one out. UPDATE: Nevermind, I do know what that charge was. Not nin-nin-game's fault.
  15. Question, have there ever been any other Mospeada works created besides the original series and Live Love Alive? I'm talking non-RT stuff. Was there no related manga ever published?

Sorta off topic, but since the VF-1A Orguss was brought up, has anyone ever drawn up a picture of what it would look like in flyer mode? Seems like it would still be our beloved flea, but with Valkyrie accents - ie, the intake vents and lower arms, though it appears to be missing the Bronco style wings.

Apple is making transforming toys for Bandai, what?!?! I kid.
  18. I'll say this about the KO blocks coming out of China, the block clones tend to be better than the cloning of other more interesting parts such as technic elements or bionicle pieces. I bought a few sets to try them out and it seems as if they are being made from molds taken from molds, meaning the clutch and fit isn't as good. The quality of plastic used is also very different, and with mobile/connecting pieces, that makes an impact because almost immediately, as they begin to strain and show stress marks. I've had a couple of the bionicle parts snap on me due to this. So if you are going to be moving a certain part a lot and think it might get stressed, try replacing it with real LEGO specially in the case where that part might be hard to get to once the final build is done.

Ignacio I’ll always upvote your calls for more Zentran Mechs. Given that the production runs of HMR seem to never larger that YamCadias, hopefully they keep producing re-issues in the future as well.

    Macross 30

I really wish Sony would just add an emulation layer for running PS Vita games on the PS4. I'm guessing they just don't see the money in it, which is a shame.

    Macross 30

Apologies for the thread necromancy, but is there any news about any PS4 generation Macross games? Wasn't sure what thread to best add this question on. I've been wanting to play Macross 30, and for the first time since I was a kid have a current gen gaming console, but there hasn't been any Macross games published for the PS4, much less any other platform. Sadly, M30 also isn't one of the titles currently supported as a Playstation Now title for the PS4.
  22. If you haven't already, track down some of those nifty AfterDark screen savers. I was always fond of the Star Trek ones as they had silly scenes from the original series, like the Horta eating it's way across the screen and every so often taking down a redshirt.
  23. How does the plastic feel? They seem to be putting out 1/55 chunky monkey clones. I assume there's very little metal in them but if the plastic is good, might warrant a buy for modding purposes.
