There is a new ST movie in the works (not the animated one) which is supposed to be truer to the novel. ST is one of the few "remakes" that needs to be done.
-
True - but they PAID for that by having an endless number of episodes with nearly no SFX budget needed. The endless Baltar talking into a microphone episodes come to mind. (where is that funny youtube video of BSG as a video game when I need it...)

Battlestar Galactica Discussion IV with Blood And Chrome
Dynaman replied to 505thAirborne's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
As another Jersey boy I have to ditto that. I once (ONCE!) tuned in the show just to see a couple of Jersey locations. I watched about 30 seconds before I got disgusted - not only are the people on the show repulsive specimens of humanity, the scene was just an indoor shot of an apartment.- 698 replies

Where to begin? It wasn't Lor it was B4 (before?). The way they just let an android (found so near Romulan space) jack into all the Federation data was stupid. The Enterprise being chased at the end, and NO ONE thinking it was a bad idea to go into that cloud where they would be out of communication was - stupid. The Dune buggy was - stupid. Data and Picard have a light warship INSIDE the big bad Romulan ship and all they do is get away rather then blow the thing apart from the inside - stupid. There is a bunch more stupid to go around but I can't remember it. Even with all that I liked Picard Junior, he did a decent job with the roll. I also really liked the battle in the cloud, nice SFX work there. A little more work on the script and the movie could have been excellent, everything I mentioned as stupid above could have been handled a little differently and it would have worked just fine.

Ditto on Macross, and I'm hoping they redo the Second Season of Yamato as well, watching the Comet Empire getting chased off Earth by the Yamato still sends a shiver up my spine, seeing it redone to the standards of 2199...

That was also a quote from Richard Hatch - his is about as realistic as someone named MEMO is with a certain other franchise. "Not dead yet" for him means he had a dream about it a week ago.- 698 replies

Sorry guys, you are just getting old - and thus not liking the new stuff because the old stuff is "more believable", even when you know it was not believable. (don't get upset, I freely admit to being an old coot on any number of other threads around here) The new transformer designs are the only things from the new movies that did not bother me. The first Tim Burton Bate Mobile was fine, the second looked like it was patterned off of doilies hanging off a lamp shade. Others like the second bat mobile more - neither was more "realistic" in any way. Same for ED-209, simply a matter of taste either way.
-
In reality, no humonoid armored vehicle is going to work, including our beloved older ones. A humonoid form is simply too ineffcient for purposes or making it armored, it maximizes the area needing armored while minimizing depth. The new ED-209 may be silly for other reasons, but I think this one is a case of looking at the past with rose tinted spectacles.

From what I saw the games were quite good, but they would make TERRIBLE, Hackneyed, movie plots.

DYRL BD Remaster - the Good.......and the BAD.

Even more then video, audio has no appeal for me. I have low-end TVs (one of which is 720p no less) and whatever speakers they come with is what I have... -
DYRL BD Remaster - the Good.......and the BAD.
Dynaman replied to SCOOPUDA!'s topic in Movies and TV Series
Same here, if I have a DVD I'm not going to go out and buy a BD of the same thing just to get a "better picture". Usually I can't tell the difference. If the original had massive problems, an example is the cleanup done for Metroplis (Fritz Lang's that is). -
Thanks, but now I'll never figure out when vowels are pronounced individually vs when they are combined like in english.

Here is a nube question for everyone. How is Mika Doi pronounced? I have it in my head that it is "doy", but what little I now know of Japanese it probably is "Doe - e". More then likely I'm totally wrong either way...

DYRL BD Remaster - the Good.......and the BAD.
Dynaman replied to SCOOPUDA!'s topic in Movies and TV Series
I have no idea what the law is, but you were showing films without doing any alterations of any kind. The "new" DYRL, even without the edits, was a remastered work - that may have been just enough to push it over the edge. -
I hope they keep the mr robo moves in. During the original the "robo" movements became more fluid as he re-connected with his humanity. (I figure everyone has watched the original by now...)

Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time II: The Quickening
Dynaman replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
You have to watch "Monster a Go Go". The only action scene was filmed in pitch black, the only thing we could see was a couple of reflections off of white helmets (I think, very hard to remember). This also featured a phone call where someone said "Ring ring" for the phone ringer rather then just having someone call the phone at the right time, there is cheap and then there is CHEAP! This one is only watchable in MST3K form of course.- 854 replies

Starship Troopers: Invasion - New SST Anime
Dynaman replied to VT 1010's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I think that is missing my point, or making it, not sure which. I'm not sure which is worse, changing the character's background so they could cast Mr. Mayonaise or getting rid of the armor to allow them more face shots of their pretty cast...- 121 replies

Dredd 3D - in theaters Sept. 21, 2012
Dynaman replied to Zor Primus's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
> In the west. maybe... You know what I mean, studios put the films they expect to do very poorly in the September release slot. To go along with that they get a pathetic advertising budget too. There have been a handful of late summer or early fall releases that broke out of the trap, but not many. -
I have not read it yet so I don't know what the difference would be, but the mayor was there in the original show as well (unless my memory is more faulty then normal)

Macross 7 Bluray Boxset Details Announced

Nothing is stopping them from doing so, not even you know who can stop that. Selling them in the USA would be tricky. No, I'm not holding my breath...
