  1. I thought the visuals from Resurrection were just fine, hardly a dissapointment in any way. The story is a disjointed mess though. (Being from the US I don't see any anti-US vibe to it either, it might be there but since there is a VERY strong anti-UN lobby here to begin with it hardly makes an impression)
  2. Not a single mention for Captain Scarlet or Space 1999 yet? Captain Scarlett had me hooked as a kid, still a decent show today when I watched it on Netflix - certainly more intelligent then most kids shows. Space 1999, with all it's flaws, was still a masterpiece in some ways. I've said it before and I'll say it again the "Dagon's Dragon" episode is one of the scariest things I've ever seen.
  3. And if their license does not require approval before they publish anything I would be surprised. (normally approval would be carte blanche but if they tried something offensive...)
  4. The new Enterprise does kinda look like a whale now that you mention it... (and I loved the new movie, all except the lense flare fetish)
  5. It's a giant robot version of "All of Me" (OK, so they were sharing Steve Martin's body in that one)
  6. And in the movie there is a male and femal pilot, geez I can see the plot unfolding already - and it smells terrible.
  7. Studio money people don't think they way, they think "Movie X is coming out - that will be the next big thing and we have to catch part of that action". There is some truth to it as well, look at the Superhero movie genre at the moment - but at some point they will become "tired" and "stale" and then the next thing will come along. (go back far enough and you have the Cowboy movies, the scifi movies, the monster movies, the counterculture movies of the early to mid seventies)
  8. He really is, even when I don't agree with his opinion he always gives enough of a description for why he did or did not like a film for me to decide if I would like it or not. Other reviewers, not so much. Only exception was the time he went off the deep end about something - I don't even remember what it was, perhaps he was on some kind of medication at the time and needed his dosage changed.
  9. It does? Perhaps I am dense. For proof that this MUST be an alternate universe - the Feds know what the Romulans looks like, original series makes it clear they were never seen in person till "Balance of Terror". Even Enterprise does not mess this up - the Romulans were never seen (although they had warp drive, which also puts Enterprise in an alternate universe from the original show)
  10. So the official line goes, but there were enough changes that had to of happened before that for me to say it was a close alternate and never the original.
  11. It was more then just a timeline change, the old timeline is still there - Spock Prime was thrown into an alternate reality and not just thrown back in time.
  12. I saw the movie on demand and had no problem hearing Baine - which surprised me after the comments I had read. My guess is they must have tweaked it since my hearing is not the best.
  13. You must have forgotten the whole Mind Meld scene between Kirk and Spock Prime, and Nero saying flat out what his beef was to Pike.
  14. Always a problem with the SB/Yamato ship designs. I love it so I forgive them of course.
  15. Without them people would not make the assumption that it is Earth.
  16. Just watched this. I thought it was going to be a severe slam on the US (which it was) but was pleasantly surprised when it was a slam on the whole planet (Finland excepted). The bit where North Korea claims the spaceships from the moon were made there was great. I could do without the lady in NYC saying the F bomb about 100 times in 4 minutes. Well worth the rental, but will probably not watch it a second time.
  17. Saw the film yesterday. Went to the matinee to keep down on the crowds but all the old coots (me included) showed up anyway... Either the evening showings are completely full or it is just a reflection of the audience for this movie. On to the short review. A very good film, but not great. It plods along after a certain point, which keeps it from getting an A+ review from me, but certainly a B+ to an A. All of the performances in the movie are first class but as usual a special award goes to Daniel Day Lewis' portrayal of Lincoln, the guy is simply the best actor alive today. Sally Field did an excellent job as Mary Todd Lincoln as well. Finally another special mention for Tommy Lee Jones as Thaddeus Stevens - the man usually gets action roles that require little acting talent, this showcased just how good of an actor he really is. This is going to be in my Blu-ray collection when it comes out.
  18. I HATE watching things on my PC rather then my TV. Really all there is to it. Well that and wanting to be able to watch it all in one sitting rather then in 10 minute chunks over the course of a few weeks. In the meantime I've got the original show and the Razor movie to watch.
  19. I watched the first two but will not watch any more till out on DVD or TV (probably DVD). Those 10 minute chunks stink like yesterday's diapers.
  20. I love the snowmen monsters, can't wait for Christmas!
  21. To be fair(*), he was trying to extend the war, not end it. (*) "What is Meesa be saying!!!"
  22. Don't underestimate the Hype machine in effect when most of these movies were made, and don't forget there was no TV whene Gone with the Wind was released - you wanted to see a movie, or enjoy AIR CONDITIONING, it was in a movie theater...
  23. Not mine, but I came across this cardstock model while looking at other models. (It should be the top one on the link - and I don't know if the name is correct but it is the shuttle Misa flew back to Earth in Macross) http://www.freewebs.com/paragon19/other.htm And a larger picture. http://www.freewebs.com/paragon19/IMG_1455.JPG
