If she is I did not catch the reference, last I remember she was stuck in E-Space.[edit] - I see that some DW books pulled her out of E-Space, but I have no idea if they are considered Cannon or not.

> There is talk of it being a woman........... There has been talk of that since the eighties, and it would be a BAD idea. They want a woman they should bring Romana back and give her a show for a season (they have an excuse, she is in an alternate dimension).

True enough on how the show unfolds. But if some of these major plot lines are not tied up somehow by the end of the story I will take a hating to the whole thing. Characters whose story arcs don't seem to be going anywhere (Arya, Bran, Dany). Arya deserves a medal for all the stuff she has gone through so far...

Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time II: The Quickening
Dynaman replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The Village, I knew the "twist" almost instantly. The modern glass in the windows, and SIgourney Weaver's glasses, were dead giveaways. The only thing keeping me guessing was the normal hollywood glitch (is that a clue? Or did the set dresser not know what he was doing?). The film itself was OK, nothing great. The Happening was decent fun, not bad but not great, I would not call the ending any kind of twist though.- 854 replies

I've read through the end of book 3 and started book 4. Don't worry, the bad guys do not "win". (Nobody wins or loses all the marbles as such) I certainly hope the epilogue of book 3 ends up being shown in the final episode for this season... It is also very hard to say who the good guys really are, Tyrion is neither good nor bad, same can be said for Jaime. The other "Kings" are a mix as well. Since the book/show is based on actual history it should be expected that there is no clear good/bad guys - or winners/losers. (I heard the Red Wedding was based on some event called the Red Dinner - now I will have to get a history book on the subject)

Red Dawn Remake---Is nothing sacred???
Dynaman replied to derex3592's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That and they went through the expense of filming the thing. I forgot another bit of stupidity. Big bad enemy commander goes out to hunt down a bunch of kids that got away in a pickup truck? At least in the original they did not go after the kids till they started making an actual nuisance of themselves, and even then they sent out combat troops rather then going themselves. (that is BAD, I actually was forced to say the original made more sense...) -
Red Dawn Remake---Is nothing sacred???
Dynaman replied to derex3592's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Just saw this one and it is WORSE then the original. At least the original was a product of the time - real fear at the time of such events no matter how implausible they actually were. Original also had that great orchestral score. This one though - I don't even remember the music, and it seemed to take itself far too seriously. I turned it off halway though for being too boring and stupid. Stupidity starts with a paradrop over a city/town - you DON'T do that, and you don't a war with a para-drop in daylight (Market-Garden had one but they were in a rush, and they purposely avoided dropping on a city). And why are elite paratroopers being used to occupy a city at the start of the war? Don't they have more important things to do? Like taking on enemy combat units? But the part that really really really blew it was when our heros went into town - and the Taco Bell in the occupied zone was up and running just like normal. Does ANYONE check these scripts for mind numbing stupidity? -
Is there more "scientology" then just the "Fear is a choice" bit. THAT particular idea is pretty much universal "I will have no fear though I walk..." (can't think of quotes from other religions but I know they exist for nearly every one).

I'll hit it with a direct insult then! I'd sooner watch Liquid Sky again then Battlefield Earth. Too bad for AE, it looked so promising, but a 12% Rotten Tomatoes rating makes that a non-starter.

I know a number of people that watched SB as kids who had no idea it was Yamato in Japan. The fact that they no longer watch anime of any kind and will probably never even know that 2199 is released probably backs up your point though... Realistically the only people who are going to care about Star Blazers 2199 are those who know of the Yamato origin of the show.

All the movies have been brought out under the Yamato name. Star Blazers has MUCH higher name recognition though.

Music variety (or lack thereof) in Frontier
Dynaman replied to Saruta's topic in Movies and TV Series
I'm sure there is plenty of other music out there, the show just didn't feature it. -
thanks for the link but it still didn't say what started the practice. My ancestors painted themselves blue so I guess it was just a thing...

They are not the same timeline. Why is that so hard to accept? The whole point was to keep the core of the characters and dump all the feces that had built up over the decades - to the point where doing ANYTHING in the original timeline other then sit around and deliberate the Prime Directive and how awesome the Federation was - was a no no.- 1020 replies

Gubaba, excellent work! and thank you! Got a question on one of your notes. "A line from the Kabuki play Musume Dojoji. Prior to the 19th century, Japanese aristocratic women and daughters of military officers dyed their teeth black when they got married. [Translator’s note]" Why did they dye their teeth black? What did it symbolize?

Dynaman replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The same reason Star Trek did not make use of technologies they picked up during epsidoes. Spock Time Travelled at least 3 times in TOS and once in STIV. TOS list The one with Terry Gar. The one where they accidently trash a US fighter plane with a tractor beam. The one with the time donut. (and whatz her face from Dallas) (and a bonus entry) The one with the library that sent him back to the tasty lady in the cave- 1020 replies

OK you win, live action shows with lots of space battles are economically feasable. Studios have been shoveling out Cop shows, Doctor shows, Lawyer Shows, Reality TV shows, etc... just to spite us.

Man of Steel - Superman movie has a director

A basic cable Disney channel. I guess that makes it the 53rd basic channel...

There is a reason why there have been so few "space fighters" sci fi shows, and budget is that reason. (and the second, third, and fourth reasons too).
-
Two possible reasons, one good and one bad. Bad - they plan on a kiddie show. Good - It would be way too expensive to do as live action.
-
I don't think so, at least not with the movie we got - the background felt so "different" between Pitch Black and Chronicles. It was hard to believe the two movies took place in the same universe. Unlike Alien/Aliens (which did make the leap from Horror to Action).
