  2. The numbers I quoted were just the thermal pad mod. When he added the cooler his synthetic benchmarks were closer to 17% better. The cooler also didn't make much difference while gaming; he had lower temps, but the CPU wasn't thermal throttling with just the thermal pad.
  3. Today
  4. Looks like it’s open.
  5. A vivisection on a plushie shouldn't be necessary. It's been forever since I lived in America, but I believe you could use a Bounce dryer sheet. Dad and I used to call those "Mom Bombs" when I was growing up because sometimes putting on clothes one might fly out of a sleeve or something. I use a vent filter to get that sort of effect. In fact I used that on the Valkyrie I posted pictures of a week or so ago. Just make sure there isn't a pattern going in one direction and that it's an even pattern. In any case, give your kid a hug for lending you that stuffing. With all the kits you're building one after another, make sure you get plenty of "dad time" clocked in. There's an ebb and flow to parenting, it seems. A few years ago, I used to get a lot more hobby time as my daughter was off in her own world most of the time and I had to give her space. Now that she's nearly 18, she's become a magnet girl again. Sometimes she'll walk into my hobby room and demand I come and flop on the pile of pillows on the floor with her. Hobby time is sacrificed, but by tomorrow she'll be a day older. This is my hobby room/nerd cave. The pile of game pillows has increased since then. https://stevethefish.net/stuff/index.php/2024/08/31/my-nerd-cave-late-at-night-updated-august-2024/ She says my hobby room is relaxing. Did you get the memo about the TPS reports? We need to talk about your TPS reports.
  6. ASrock’s lower end stuff doesn’t seem to cause as many problems like their high-end stuff does. 🤷‍♂️ And it’s the 9800X3D+870 motherboard that seems to be the most problematic for ASRock. Yeah, he also attached an external liquid cooler. ZipTieTech and a few others just did the thermal pad mod (no additional cooling) and only got a <5% improvement on benchmarks.

  8. So... apparently Star Trek: Starfleet Academy's performance was SO bad that Skydance Paramount has reportedly opted to end the arrangement that gave Secret Hideout exclusive creative control of the franchise. Something they really should have done after Discovery spun in, IMO, but better late than never and I can't imagine many fans will miss them. Which is weird, because the transwarp network was explicitly destroyed at the end of Star Trek: Voyager. Even if some of the Borg conduits survived because the Queen did, albeit in a diminished state, they shouldn't still be around centuries later after the Borg went extinct.
  9. On YouTube, ETA Prime pulled the graphene pad that's stock over the MacBook Neo's internals and cut the section that goes over the A18 out. He then applied some Noctua thermal compound over the A18, then covered it with a strip of copper. On the other side of the copper he used an Arctic TP-3 thermal pad to create a physical connection between the copper and the bottom of the Neo's aluminum chassis. After doing so, he was able to get roughly 10-20% better scores on synthetic benchmarks. For less synthetic results, he was playing No Man's Sky. Totally stock, he was running the game on about medium settings and the Neo would quickly hit 105 degrees and start thermal throttling, resulting in around 30fps. Just by replacing the stock pad with his copper-and-TP3 solution the A18 stayed in the mid-80s, which made throttling unnecessary and netting him nearly 60fps. I don't have any sheets of copper just lying around, but I wonder how long it's gonna be before we start seeing professional kits that do this? Seems like there's a lot of extra performance that can be wrung out of the A18 Pro just with better passive cooling.
  10. I took notice th at Takara is now doing the gift box set for G2 Stunticons and man, that's frustrating. We're 2 characters short of finishing the series and it's been what? well over 2 years now? Rather inexcusable time table in my opinion, I get they wanna get other stuff out there but it doesn't take much when you already got a mold and just need to alter color tones, it's just BS to me. It's also feeling like a waste of money and that I may be better off just trying to order this gift set....with any luck it'll be a superior quality over some of the flubs that Hasbro has been making with their releases and the QC issues that continuously pop up on their new releases. It's really making me fall out of love with transformer collecting big time.
  11. Project Hail Mary was really good. I'm not usually into watching movies with the scenes 'time-skipping,'' but it fit here as it... I liked the interactions with Rocky and just love that he was a practical effect. That's so cool.
  12. Late to the party 🎉 I know, BUT TF Direct has $4 shipping to the US goin on for some stuff, (and it got delivered to me in TX in less than 15 days with NO additional shipping or tariff charges!) so I picked up these two for my small TF collection. These are my first Magic Square figures, I've only had New Age previously, but these two sure looked the part! I love G1 toon accuracy so I think these little guys will fit in well!
  13. I am almost purely MSI/Gigabyte/Corsair nowadays, when I have a choice. (I would be 100% Gigabyte if I could, but they don't make everything, and I swear 2/3 of my last PC's have been "emergency" purchases so I have to take what I can get on short notice, not what I TRULY want)
  14. I like the Harry Potter novels, enjoyed the movies muchly. Regarding the new HBO TV trailer, the set pieces look great. I hear Warwick will return to play Professor Flitwick!
  15. MegaHouse - Variable Action High Spec Orguss ll (Standard Soldier Specification Type)
  16. Finally saw Project Hail Mary, very nice movie I liked it. It has ET and Close Encounters of the Third Kind vibe. Next is Project Hail Mario.
  17. The whole thing is crazy. This administration of our government can't be gone quickly enough. I just want to buy the toys I like at decent prices.
  18. FYI, Current conversion at time of posting, w/tax: 77,777 yen = $488 USD
  19. 77,777 yen is a good bit but woof that's expensive. I believe it's about par for the course for JP boxsets, especially for full 4K remasters like this, but definitely going to wait and see if AlltheAnime puts this out in a few years.
  20. I just finished collecting all three variants of the original Battle Pods. Would you buy a whole new set of of the weathered ones? I wonder if this is also going to be a trend with the upcoming scout and officer's pod?
  21. Find this to X mix between Griffon and the sv51😁
