Post Skywalker Saga Star Wars Movies

I stand corrected. Just one recalibration, not two. Whatever their greatest sin was, it seems like the real test of whether the sequel trilogy era can be made long-term marketable after The Rise of Skywalker is going to be whether Starfighter and New Jedi Order do well.- 354 replies

Finally got a very nice copy for about 15 USD. It's a fun read, and the inspiration is well-known, but I haven't seen folks say much or showcase one on their M shelves or as in my case, on the Macross bookcase.

I think you’re right, they look exactly like the front of Hasegawa super packs. I couldn’t tell you why. My best guess would be part of the sprue including the super parts is used for multiple kits and they just added extra cockpit detailing to account for the second seat, but if that’s the case I haven’t found that other version, just the 1D and a more modern offering.

Not familiar with the specifics of those photoetch sets, but those look like detail covers for the fronts of the super pack missile launchers. Why they would be included with a VF-1D I have no idea, though. It would make sense if it was a standard set designed for use with all the VF-1s, but as you said, it's a VF-1D-specific set.

Ok, yeah, that change makes no sense. Why would they do that? It just adds more junky-looking slots on the leg, while the original was a detail already there. The holes all over the leg are one of the most irritating features on the Arcadia re-design.

This is not what happened. Well, correction, they brought JJ back on board to steer things back toward the first movie after the second one ruffled feathers. That did happen. But there was no change in course after the first one. They've been really open about this: they gave Rian creative control over the second movie. He could do what he wanted, and he did. But there was no change in course after the first movie by Disney or Lucasfilm. The movie was a massive hit and did well with critics.- 354 replies

Bandai? Do a grunt model in plastic for Macross? Has that ever happened? (well, aside from the VF-171 non-scale, I think)

I finally did it and watched Hundreds of Beavers recently. It took a bit of convincing and found a few spoiler free reviews that all said that it was the funniest movie of the year back in 2024. I really don’t remember too many funny movies from last year, so maybe it’s true, but it may have been a low bar year for comedy. Anyway Hundreds of Beavers definitely won’t be a movie for everyone. I really enjoyed it, but I like some rather absurd things. The budget is practically nothing, all the animals are played by people in furry costumes or are sewn together puppets. and the effects are all animated in. It’s also filmed in black and white and done in a way to give a classic cartoon kinda look to everything. A lot of the music I kinda recognize from other movies like the ending theme, so that was probably another way to keep things cheap. Despite its cheapness, there’s a lot of truly epic scenes. Basically it’s about a drunk that gets his life completely destroyed by beavers and left out in a cold forest and has to navigate his cartoony world and learn gradually how to survive. There’s a running gag that there is a random vendor lodge that’s kinda like something out of a video game that sells items with increasing usefulness depending on the price and the only way to get money is to bring in animals that he’s trapped. There’s a lot of trial and error that’s fun to watch because things only work by cartoony rules. He does meet a more experienced trapper that helps him out, but eventually he has to take what he’s learned and perfect it to meet his new goal of not just basic survival, but marrying the vendor’s daughter. Overall it’s a fun one with a bit of a slow start because the main character has to slowly learn the best ways to perfect his skills from being a guy with zero survival skills to becoming a professional trapper. If you’re ok with absolute absurdity and nonsensical humor, it’s a good watch, but I’d imagine that most will stay away from it after just watching the preview.

This one is a bit of a surprise announcement, a new 1/35 model kit of Billbine is being made and it is part of the R3 line. Yes, the very R3 line we all thought was considered axed by Bandai after only four releases!? https://www.taghobby.com/archives/858466

DeltaE27 started following Help ID’ing a photoetch part
-
So I’ve recently come across two sheets of Hasegawa photoetch parts for the 1/72 VF-1D model. I’ve found the instructions that show where each part goes, but I’ve noticed that on the sheets are two parts that are called out in the manual as not used. As far as I can tell these sheets are specifically designed for the VF-1D they came packaged with (they are stamped as being for the VF-1D and I haven’t dug up any other kits with this specific sheet), so it seems odd there are just two parts that don’t ever get used? Does anyone know or have any guesses what these parts are intended to be used for?

The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread

Ironically, they're not glued in ENOUGH now, I think. Looking carefully at how the backplate flexes etc, on Roy----I actually decided to glue down Jetfire's as flush as I can. Then will reinforce it THEN see if I can get it to clip both in and out, nicely. The screw just isn't enough, at least not with the cheaper (more translucent?) plastic Jetfire's made of. It's definitely lighter/more flexible it seems. (also, a Roy booster really doesn't want to fit onto a Jetfire clip)- 9312 replies

Super Macross Mecha Fun Time Discussion Thread!
Seto Kaiba replied to Valkyrie Driver's topic in Movies and TV Series
Some people will, sure... that doesn't mean the argument is sound. Most people - fans and casual viewers alike - simply accept the easily verifiable reality that these occasional inconsistencies are mistakes that were made in production and not anything meant to have significance to the setting or the narrative. For example, you don't see Star Trek fans arguing that the USS Enterprise-A is three times her stated size in Star Trek V because the deck numbers in the turboshaft scene show numbers as high as 78 (and in reverse order) on a ship that only has 23 decks. It's just a mistake in set dressing and nothing more. Same as when, in Star Trek: Nemesis, Riker somehow kicks the Viceroy down into an inexplicable bottomless pit on the lowest deck of the ship (29)... somehow five decks below the previous lowest deck of the ship (24). Just a dumb mistake. To give another, you don't see Star Wars fans claiming the Millennium Falcon doesn't actually have a radar dish based on the fact that it's MIA when the ship is first seen in A New Hope. Or that Anakin obviously visited our galaxy to buy lightsaber parts given that the bottom of his lightsaber in Empire clearly bears the stamped words "MANUFACTURED BY GRAFLEX" and "ROCHESTER NY USA". Or that the Republic has only actually been around for 1,000 years based on Palpatine's dialog in the prequels. Sometimes... a lot of the time... an error is just an error. No hidden messages, no secret authorial intent. Just an honest-to-goodness screwup that didn't get caught.
