Whats Lying on your Workbench MK IV

Well....the little brass breakup pattern stencils didn't turn out quiet as easy to use as they were in my head but I guess it looks ok... Dunno.. Still undecided if I wanna keep it or strip it off and do my freehand marbling method like I did on the subs.... The problem was keeping it flat on the complex curves and angles all over the plane.

Thank you for the kind words everyone!

"You begin to think you might just have some modicum of talent...then @MechTech posts an update....then you crawl back under your model table and begin to re-think your life....😂" Thank you @derex3592! You're toooo funny! You've also been putting out some great looking models too - like the Hornet!

@pengbuzz NOBODY can beat your masking tape skills - NOBODY! Thank you and that is a COOL meme (and accurate) too!

Thank you @Thom!

Thank you @Urashiman! If I could make them that small, I would!😎

Sorry guys, for those that are interested, I forgot to tell you about this (full size so you can see detail):

GundamCanvas.jpg.c924a65cc069283be1b277e5637a4b84.jpg

About $25-30 at Hobby Lobby! They've had other Gundam stuff there too occasionally. It is printed on canvas with overlapping edges. Ready to hang too! - MT

That's looking great, I have a stencil like that too that I've been thinking of trying but I have found this guy I'm following on Facebook and he's amazing in 1/72 scale.  I think I might try his acrylic ink technique instead of these spray patterns as I find it more scale appropriate for 1/72.  Have a look here;

https://luftraum72.com/layered-ink-patina-technique/

He's a fellow Canuklehead too and I have his book and its amazing!!!  Highly recommend it.

If yours came with 3, cut one in half and on the other remove the thick border edge. Or just bend one into a 90° angle. That way you can get in closer. Remember you don't want perfect patterns. Imperfect is more natural as counter intuitive as that sounds. A bit of trial and error, keep going!

All of the gun mechanisms below deck are controlled through this panel on the actual gun. The model has two LEDs. One is a color changer and the other is a tea-light candle LED to flicker. All are soldered to a 1.5V "Joule Thief" board to run them. LOTS of blackout methods used to control the light leakage.

Lots of nice little details on such a small scale.

What's with the Joule Thief, is it to save space from a 3V setup?

I need these stencils too ... I have been searching the internet but no luck. Where do you have them from?

Looks really great NB4M!

@MechTech dude! Your work is simply inspiring. (And your tools are enviable!) Always a pleasure to see what you've been up to.

@arbit wish I had the patience to learn 3D modeling. The things that 3D printers make possible, I mean the sky is the limit, and your designs look so good.

Fist asteroid underway.

@Urashiman - They were a Christmas gift, so I don't know off hand, but take a look at this website, these might be far better and flexible, not to mention probably cheaper!

AK Interactive maybe? Maybe @Rock can chime in here....

Uschi van der Rosten's "Trinity Splatter 2" is by far the best set I've come across. Their site has plenty of companies to buy them from, or just go to good old eBay.
A few others make and sell them as "weathering airbrush stencils." AK is popular alternative. I just really like the brass one for durability/reusability and since you have to soak them in thinner to clean (no scrubbing as they are essentially a big photo etch piece.

Big one and two smaller 'roids - maybe one more mid sized to build.

@wm cheng Thank you for posting that link regarding using acrylic inks! I actually bought a couple colors in green to try and color the tiny 1/72 scale projectiles. I had to settle with paint; but like you said, the ink pigments are finer and more scale looking. Even some of the best paints can still chunk up. The inks didn't work for me (they don't stick to metal😎), but in testing, I could tell right away they have potential for other effects.

@nightmareB4macross That is going to be a Super Chunky Monkey (with less chunky - more SUPER)!👍

@Chas Thank you, I appreciate it! I never thought you'd hit the 'roids!🤣 Seriously though, that is going to be a COOL looking diorama!

@Urashiman Thank you! They are Plastruct letters used to make a "shadow" or reverse stencil. Thankfully, they sell them all over the world:

https://www.plastruct.com/search?q=letters

@F18LEGIOSS2 It's great to see another old figure get some restoration!

@arbit To keep the motor running at the correct speed, I had to use a 1.5v battery. The Joule Thief enables me to keep the same battery AND run the LEDs. I don't need a bunch of separate batteries. They have to be left out anyhow when not in use to prevent leaks ruining things, so the less the better.

Isamu's bike (and babe) look awesome! You must be on a Macross Plus kick😁 AWESOME looking sculpt! - MT

Amazing effect, but it looks like a lot of tedious processing. I would never finish a kit going that route.

Speaking of, I completed the Intruder cockpit today.

Thanks.  Yes, it is all M+, all the time, for the foreseeable future.  Isamu's flight suit was been a big challenge, and I had to learn a lot to get through it.

@electric indigo That cockpit looks cool. The pose of the pilots talking to each other makes it look more realistic.

I know a retired pilot who has over a 1000 traps in the Intruder. He was smart and tape recorded his audio over the helmet headphones during the Vietnam war. There's a couple of missions where SAMs were fired at him. They got his recordings and made them available at the Naval Air Museum for visitors. You can hear the warning tone go off and then the crew take evasive action. It's cool to be able to hear what actually happened during those missions.

@pengbuzz That's cool! So the question is, set to kill or set to stunning!?😁 - MT

Sorry for the quality of pics, it's either been raining, snow or today, it's super windy outside and my cameras are horrid with indoor lighting.

Well, here she is, my YF-23 Black Widow II. I have a little touch up to do on the landing gear/wheels but overall, I'm calling it done. B))

On my workbench now:

100_0392.JPG.3c72aa9ab3a3eb3fb3a54dfb986586f8.JPG

Keeping a promise to some lost friends; first up is the F-14A Tomcat (VF-1 Wolfpack September 1974, CV(A)N-65 U.S.S. Enterprise). The next two will be the F-14A (Top Gun, Maverick/Goose's plane, 1986), then the F-14D (VF-213 Black Lions, 2005). These represent the birth, zenith and end of the F-14's career over a span of 31+ years.

Cockpit's pretty much done; just need to clean up around the frame. once that's done, masking and initial priming commences.

Stay tuned...
