  1. Well it's almost the new year and I'm still not looking forward to buying this. If I didn't operate my website, there's be no way I'd even consider picking this up, but it's kinda a necessity for a fan like me. I will say, collecting this series is going to be a real grind. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised if I bail halfway through
  2. Great work Chthonic! Yeah the color code transformation guide for this Valkyrie took me a long time to figure out
  3. Fantastic work. I'm sorry to hear the originals were lost. I've had that happen once or twice with some of my colored work (oh SDF-1 Colored Schematic, where art thou?) and it's never fun.
  4. An amalgamation of 1980's genre entertainment into a single giant robot on a T-Shirt. If my eyes don't decieve me, that's the head taken from Macross's very own VF-1S Valkyrie. http://www.riptapparel.com/ Weirdness

    UFO!!!!

Oh yeah, that looks better, though not sure if it fits the scene. Outdoors looks overcast and the light is very diffused on all the other objects.
  6. One can only hope Pacific Rim is to blame Read this on Slashfilm yesterday; it sounds like a good plan so far. I loved that proof-of-concept trailer.
  7. Here's a larger picture of the original (taken from This Is Animation Special Macross 7)
  8. I like it. The landing strips on each ARMD is a nice touch.
  9. I have found that artists often have the most bizarre aversions to their own art. I can understand to a smaller degree, since I suffer some similar feelings never being satisfied with what I draw or color. Perhaps Mikimoto - or those making the BD set - were never happy with Mylene's old face and decided to update it. The reason could also be that it was a cheap and easy way to attract more modern audiences using a style of face much more attractive to current tastes.

    UFO!!!!

Wow, that's kinda cool. Feels like an initial shot at it, but I can just imagine how it would look with a huge budget
  11. Apparently the DLC only works when playing a new game. I've not purchased it yet, but I'd like to give it a shot. Probably in the new year. So busy right now
  12. If Pacific Rim is done right, the robots won't be stars...they'll be characters. There is plenty of vapid, disposable entertainment with cool-looking robots to satisfy fans who are hung up on nothing more than mecha desgins. Pacific Rim is trying to be a real film and a love letter to one of our favorite genres. That's why many of us are so excited for the potential of the film and can feel the love inside that trailer. If we want a film with an actual engaging story, good acting, characters we care about and respect shown for the giant robot genre, sadly Pacific Rim might be one of only a precious few. A lot is riding on this film and personally I'd have watched Pacific Rim even if the robots looked like Tetsuwan Atomu.
  13. When you think about it, there really is no "western" mechanical aesthetic (using this term loosely in our now-globalized world). "Western" mecha design varies vastly from one production to another. We can see clown-colored and hyper-stylized (example, Iron Man), to a combination of style and function (example, Pacific Rim or District 9) and lastly to the ugly, walking-tank, realist aesthetic (example Avatar or The Matrix sequels). This vast difference in style is why some anime mecha fans find themselves disappointed that not every mecha is painted in bright primary colors and slick, hyper-stylization. But we can't be blamed for our preferences of one style over another. The whole point of allowing individuals to produce entertainment using their unique vision means releasing product that won't appeal everyone. I'm actually enjoying the interesting mixture of sensibilities in the Pacific Rim mecha. Perhaps I might look at Super Robots in a much more charitable way
  14. Del Toro does a commentary for the trailer...lol http://www.slashfilm...ic-rim-trailer/ Let me know how it is...they won't let me view it from my location Whoa, you guys are in Toronto? Uh oh, I'm seeing a future beer and wing night coming from this reveal
  15. Fah, haters gonna hate. It's the internets, it happens I think if this film is as good as my hopes, it'll turn out much like Firefly/Serenity. It'll bring out that geek appreciation and love of the technology that so many other films can't achieve. If Pacific Rim can hook it's audience emotionally, this will be a big winner.
  16. Don't you worry your talented little head wm cheng, the marketing campagin is working well and that trailer was definitety a hit. Odds are very good movie goers will be flocking to this one and I'll be there opening night. All the film sites I frequent are filled with excitement and praise for this film. You've done good, so relax, positive word of mouth is high.
  17. Well now...that was bloody awesome. As always I must temper my enthusiasm with pragmatism, but this movie just went from "trust Del Toro/willing to take a chance" to "definitely checking this out opening night" Gotta say that while the super robot and kaiju themes are all over this flick, there is a lot more real robot influence in here than I expected. The trademark real robot tropes are all over, from the gritty, realistic look of each Jaeger right down to military operation and deployment of them. Not a clown colored mecha in sight. Most impressive.
  18. Finally got home and had a second chance to go through the trailer and gather my thoughts. I must say that aside from everything else we've seen in the posters and trailers, I am very intrigued by the direction they've chosen to approach Superman. If they deliver on what is being shown here, I think it's a brilliant take on the character. The most common complaint you always hear about the adaptation of Superman is whether the world really wants to see the character at all. Is Superman too old-fashioned? Is the character at all relevant for our times? Is Superman a character far too out of touch with modern audiences? This trailer appears to be asking exactly those questions about the character and sure enough, the trailer ends with a big question to the audience watching it..."What do you think?" I think they've nailed the perfect way to hook audiences on Superman by making a film that takes aim dead center of that common criticism and doesn't back down. I only hope the full film delivers on the promise they've shown here. For my part, I'm definitely ready for a world with a great new Superman film.
  19. Not that I've ever seen, but I do have a rough size comparison chart that has a profile view of the Varauta Fleet Flagship (if that's the same one we're talking about). See attachment.
  20. LOL Sounds like a bogus name given it's relation to broader pop culture. Either way, the name doesn't mean much without any context.
  21. That doesn't sound half bad. I suppose they better decide fast. This series is only a little over a month away.
  22. I can relate. I was really working hard on the update to my site for 3-4 months and then this past month I've barely had time to touch it at all. Just had too many distractions and then started making excuses on top of it. I'm finally starting to get back into it by forcing myself to take on the hardest of the new material and so far the plan is working. Sometimes I guess we just need to stop thinking and do the work
  23. That is quite the achievement. Most impressive.
  24. I just checked out the first episode of Series 2 of Sherlock yesterday. I'm in BC overdose right now. Great to see him on the big screen in what looks like a scene-stealing role. Hope the movie is good.
