  1. Played several hours of co-op in the campaign with two other friends. Really fun stuff. Halo 4 is a surprisingly good co-op game.
  2. Saw the movie last week and forgot to post about it. Brilliant movie with plenty of laughs, heart and nostalgia. John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman were brilliant as the lead voices and the animation is spectacular. I also got a kick out of the Fix-It Felix and Sergeant Calhoun characters and their relationship, which was so hilarious (most tragic backstory ever, LOL!). I will say I'm kinda sad because some of the games in the movie I'd love to see realized so I can play them Oh yeah, and the Paperman short film played before the feature was great! All around, highly recommended...been saying that a lot this year
  3. Yes, the learning curve always throws me. Only the fundamental principles of combat apply (don't rush around corners, present as little of your profile as possible, etc). I'm not sure how much I'll get into Halo 4 multiplayer. For me it's always been more about the single player. I'm not sure why but I'm becoming more polarized with game modes as time goes on. Certain titles just feel single player for me and when I want raw, competitive hardcore multiplayer I dive into a dedicated MP game like Battlefield 3. I know many would disagree, especially in the case of Halo 4, but right now I'm unsure if I'll get into the MP for this game in any big way. I am stoked about the co-op part though. Haven't played a good co-op game since Left 4 Dead 1 and 2.
  4. I'd bee very interested in a breakdown of the content within these books. Just to make sure I'm not missing anything. Sometimes reprints from other books aren't so bad, especially when they reprint material from near-impossible-to-obtain books (remasted DVD booklets, I'm scowling at you)
  5. Picked up the book today. Can't wait to read through it.
  6. Finally got a chance to play. It's Halo alright, for better and for worse. Enjoying the game so far. Played just the first part of the campaign and it was enjoyable. Played a little multiplayer with the 14-day free Trial for X-Box Live Gold and got my ass kicked. There's nothing quite as frustrating as being a pro at one game (Battlefield 3) and then jumping into multiplayer in Halo 4
  7. Well the year might be almost over, but the movies won't quit. Skyfall is yet another amazing film in a year of amazing films. This newest Bond film is as good as Casino Royale and easily one of my new favorites for the series. Great performances all around, especially from the leads Craig, Dench and Bardem. The action was also inspired. I adored the opening chase and the rest of the movie's action didn't disappoint. The film also has a great theme that both wraps up the entire franchise and simultaneously reaffirms the power of what has made Bond so entertaining for all these years. One of Bond's best.
  8. I picked it up today. No time to play it but maybe tomorrow after Skyfall
  9. Absolutely love the visual impact of those zombie waves and the reaction I got watching them Absolutely convinced this production is "in name only" and is sold as World War Z only to benefit from a known property Absolutely saddened those awesome visuals are very likely to be wasted within a terrible movie
  10. I might pick this up. I loved Halo and Halo 2 (including the Anniversary edition of Halo), but I skipped Halo 3. I feel like playing more Halo and the reviews for the game mostly say it's more of the same Halo, only done right. That's kinda where I'm at as far as my wants for this franchise right now, but I can understand if some were disappointed.
  11. Hahaha, very nice. It's strange but I feel like every X-COM player I talk to developed advanced weapons at a point much earlier than I did. I did make the capture of aliens my priority in the early game and researched a lot of corpses and prisoners early. Maybe my tech tree progression was quite different than most. I didn't get most of the plasma weapons until the bottom half of the mid-game. One thing I did do right was create a large base of skilled soldiers very quickly using 3 squads on rotation in the early game. I recommend this strategy, especially in the early game when soldier injury is more frequent and recovery times are long. Soldiers are dirt cheap and you can house like a hundred. So just recruit 20-30 and put your favorites on regular rotation immediately. Aim for 3 full squads of 4-6 with at least 2-3 of each class built up together. This strategy does thin out the experience, but by the time you reach mid-game you've got over a dozen experienced soldiers mostly at Major rank. With that, you can take on almost anything even if you only have a few advanced weapons. When I encountered the tougher aliens in the mid-game I had all the skills to wreak total havoc on them.
  12. Slashfilm has a great podcast discussing the future of Star Wars that you all might find interesting. http://www.slashfilm.com/filmcast-ep-205-the-future-of-star-wars-guest-jeff-cannata-from-the-totally-rad-show/ Personally, I think one of the best ways they can make Star Wars relevant again is to cast a female as the lead in the new films. It's time. Popular culture is at the cusp of a new renaissiance for female actors and heroic leads. I'd love to see Star Wars as one of those properties leading the charge. I hope Kennedy is thinking the same thing.
  13. Axelay Hahaha, I'm not sure if that's such a great idea. I remember chuckling at the ridiculous sweater the guy was wearing in the briefings when I first played the game. I got used to it quick and it seems normal, but my first impression was it was kinda silly. Ghost Train I know what you mean. I didn't prioritize the base building or acquiring Engineers during the first month. I almost paid for it dearly in the 2nd and 3rd month. Nearly every country was yellow or orange. Only thing that saved me from losing a country this first playthrough was completing the Alien Base mission early. That provided time enough to turn the game around which I used to get engineers and satellites. This game isn't as difficult as the original X-COM, but it can be just as brutal and unforgiving. Psionics, while still lethal, are not nearly as troublesome as they were in the original. You don't suffer anymore of that "mind-controlled-across-half-a-map" garbage from the old game. But it's still way too easy for your soldiers to be mind screwed and turn on you
  14. I don't know anything about the different special editions but they have all the details on the official website http://www.xcom.com/enemyunknown/. Having the art book has no bearing on the game, so you can start playing it now. Even the Elite Soldier Pack has now been released as DLC on Steam. So even if you purchased a vanilla version, you can get the special edition pre-order bonus for an extra $5.
  15. Getting close to the end. I'm not sure how I did it but I've not lost a country yet and I have Satellites covering every continent. I must have got lucky in the first 3 months because there was so much yellow and orange for those early months. I also have at least one Firestorm stationed on every continent, armed with either a Plasma Cannon, EMP, or Fusion Lance. I've got everything researched and ready to go. The Temple Ship is looming on the geoscape. I think I want to wait just a few more weeks to get another month of revenue and purchase anything still outstanding from the Foundry. I suppose just before the end, i can sell everything if I need extra cash
  16. Looks like hope for the theatrical cuts of the original films on DVD/Blu-Ray have just been smashed http://www.slashfilm.com/20th-century-fox-still-owns-rights-to-first-six-star-wars-films-making-original-box-set-difficult/
  17. Reviews are great. Slashfilm has a glowing review. http://www.slashfilm.com/wreck-it-ralph-review-one-of-the-best-video-game-movies-of-all-time/ I'm going to see it Saturday. Very much looking forward to it.
  18. Well, if one were to comment on the state of this franchise, there's little room to go anywhere except up. For those who are interested, there are several articles about the Disney/Lucasfilm purchase on Slashfilm (with both facts and speculation). http://www.slashfilm.com/your-questions-answered-disney-purchase-lucasfilm-star-wars-episode-7/ http://www.slashfilm.com/disney-buys-lucasfilm-new-star-wars-film-2015/
  19. VF-19 I know what you mean. Only problem is understanding what research, building or equipment trigger a story mission. If I had known the Hyperwave Relay would trigger that Overseer UFO, I wouldn't have built the facility for another month. I would have the Firestorm Fighter FIRST and then built the Hyperwave Relay. I had to play catch up with that one. I do feel the squeeze right now for cash so I think in my next playthrough I'm going to slow down those "URGENT" build things. They're not so urgent UN_MARINE If the X-COM EU is like the original X-COM with regards to countries and economy, you're always going to lose some countries before the game is out. I recall even in my best games of the original X-COM, I would lose at least a few countries. Six months in and I've not lost a country, so I assume that's good. I get mostly Grade B on my monthly reports, although this past month I got a C and I still have two countries sitting at level 3 panic.
  20. I've taken your advice and built two more Satellites above the eight I can deploy. That's a good strategy in more ways than one. Not only can you deploy immediately once new Satellite Uplinks/Nexus (Nexi?) facilities are built, but the Satellites in storage can act as replacements. Though it's not happened to me yet, I read on the 2K forums that UFOs can shoot down your satellites. I'm into the sixth month now and have my first combat-ready PSI soldier and the Firestorm Fighter with Plasma Cannon. I've only encountered one UFO that consistently eludes my old Interceptors and it's a purple craft labeled "Overseer". This Overseer has been detected twice and evaded my forces both times since my Hyperwave Relay was built. Now with a Firestorm, I'm looking forward to blowing that bitch out of the sky with my new ship
  21. I watched the film this past weekend. It's definitely worth seeing, but it's not life altering. You'll have a good time and be rather amazed at how well it actually works. It's quite ambitious and succeeds more often than not even if it isn't the saviour of cinema
  22. I agree. There's no doubt to me this is an amazing remake. Just the level of effort and creativity that went into the game is worth celebrating, even if the game wasn't a ton of fun. I love the customization of your soldiers, including nicknames. So much fun. For those who have not obtained it, I highly recommend the Elite Soldier Pack. So much fun. I finally had a chance to spend time playing several real gaming sessions of X-COM this week. I'm 5 months in now and I've got 3 full squads of Major-rank soldiers (6 skills each) on rotation and most of the Officer Training School perks. Satellites and Engineers are still slow to come, but at least I have two continents completely covered now. Laser and Plasma weapons in use and working on my first New Fighter Craft. Got the Thermo Generator and Hyperwave Relay built as 3 of the four structures for both Satellite Uplink and Workshop. Got 29 Scientists and 34 Engineers at this point and about 500 credits on hand. Haven't lost a country yet and panic levels are all really low. I'm not sure if this means I'm doing well or not. I made several missteps along the way (my first month was wasted) and I have no idea how to manage my tech tree so I assume I'm behind on that too. But overall, not bad for my first try. I think I have a good chance to beat the game the first time out, which was a far cry from my performance on the original back in 1994
  23. LOL! I have to laugh, because if I didn't, I'd cry
  24. You're right on the mark there. I've not heard anything about this franchise in years, even as an active net denizen trekking through pop culture's off-beat streets online. As for Agrama's legal troubles, they seems unlikely to affect HG or Macross except in the unlikely event of a liquidation. In that event, who knows what kind of crap will happen to the rights. That being said, HG has always refused to expose the nature of it's internal workings and copyrights whenever someone called their bluff legally. If nothing else, we may actually see the light of day fall upon HG as a result of investigation into assets. Again, nothing likely to come of it from the perspective of a Macross fan, but it might be a curiosity to read about
