  1. Mixed emotions about the trailer. I have been hoping for a Dredd film that is much less of a farce than what we were given years back, but I can't quite find the enthusiasm for this trailer. The casting appears great (I'll watch Karl Urban and Lena Heady in anything) and I do love the much better and far more menacingly reserved reading of the infamous "I am the law" line. But I'm really hoping there's more good here than has been shown in that trailer. it wouldn't be the first time a good movie had a lousy trailer, especially true when a film is trying to deliver something different from the norm and those stupid marketing twits can't edit a trailer that properly showcases anything outside their typical template I will say that while a lot of recent sci-fi has benefitted from realism and more grounded special effects work, I do think this is one example where the near-future trend of modern sci-fi is not serving the far-future theme of the source material. Perhaps I am looking at this trailer and the effects through old-school eyes, but that skyline did not feel very "mega-city" to me. Not saying I want to see the awful Burton-like skyline in the old film, but I was hoping for less sprawl and more density than what we see in that trailer. Custumes-wise it looks good and I do appreciate the less silly looking uniforms. The look is at least selling it. Naturally, I did sense The Raid in this trailer, which is perhaps one reason why they may have had a difficult time editing something together that doesn't look too much like one of the best action films to come out this year. But aside from setting, this does feel like it's own show, so I'm not too worried about that. The real thing to worry about is if this movie will even hold a candle to something like The Raid. i have some doubts
  2. Thanks to all for posting all the screen shots, gifs and those reanimated sequences. This HD set looks amazing. Even without any subtitles, I'm really tempted to pick this up. I also have to say those reanimated sequences of the original SDFM scenes really have me excited. I am particularly impressed with the reanimated opening sequence, especially in the way they managed to CG animate the VF-1 Valkyrie with such adherence to the original staging and animation. That would be a dream to see the whole series reanimated like those sequences. If only
  3. Another great model. Fine work again!
  4. Alright, that was a good laugh
  5. Finally had a chance to see Prometheus with some friends. This movie is definitely something different than most of the fare in theatres, but honestly, Prometheus is a film firmly entrenched in the status quo of established science fiction without really doing that much of anything innovative or inspired. I think my opinion of Prometheus is that it simply...treads water. I didn't get much out of the story, the science or the philosophy. This is all familiar territory albiet redressed and repackaged with skill and care. I never felt cheated by Prometheus as a production, only as a story. What I did get out of Prometheus was the pleasure of many amazing shots, an appreciation for solid acting and admiration for the production design. But again, my fondness for the film manifests as a love for the film's craft, not from any substance or because it evoked any enduring emotion. I felt some tension at times, I felt some interest in the story infrequently and on occassion there were moments I felt wonder. The rest of the time I was simply willing enough to go along without ever becoming that engaged. Also as a general rule, I do harbor a distaste for any story with pretensions that reach far further than can be grasped. A film like Prometheus clearly shoots for the big questions and yet while I never demand answers I do demand something meaningful is brought into the conversation. As far as I can tell Prometheus has nothing to add to the evolving conversation of science fiction. We're left not with enlightenment but rather simple masturbation. Granted the finale of masturbation is always worthwhile, but I was hoping to reach it via an intimate encounter instead of just an inflatable I will say that I now understand the breadth of the many varied and polarized reviews of Prometheus. While I don't share hatred for the film I can understand why many hold the film in contempt for failing to be an inspired part of the evolution of science fiction. I did enjoy watching the film and although Prometheus added nothing to the conversation, at least I can now add to the conversation myself. 6 out of 10.
  6. Put Idris Elba in anything and there's a good chance I'll watch it. Put him in a giant monsters movie with mecha/anime overtones and Del Toro directing, I'll be there opening day
  7. Really enjoyed Fahrenheit 451. Still have that in my collection after all these years. Thankful for his talent.
  8. Ah, thanks fellas. I'll have to see about getting myself a copy.
  9. Again, more simply amazing material. I don't believe I've ever seen the VF-1S head modelled in CG this well with this much detail. Bravo! Btw, where did you get that artwork of the SDF Macross girls sitting on top of the VF-1 head units in the blue line art? I think I've seen that drawing only once before, but never knew where it came from.
  10. Although not a huge fan of 80's music, I am enjoying some synthpop revival as of late. Particularly M83 and Cut Copy. Figured these two songs would probably find an audience here.
  11. Just to note, there are more game environments than just the interior of the ships. The gameplay trailers so far have shown planet side locales (both interior and exterior) as well as hives. The E3 2011 Demo also stated there would be sequences within the Alien Derelict Spaceship.
  12. Thanks so much for looking fellas. It really helps out a lot. If it's not too much trouble, could you list the books that don't have the art I'm looking for. At the very least it tells me what NOT to buy.
  13. Wow, this is great stuff!
  14. Back from development hell but nearly all we got is notice of yet another delay. This time the release has been pushed back to 2013. Another game play trailer has been provided, which of course looks great. I hope this game will at least see the light of day.
  15. EDITED: Okay, is see the picture you're now looking at upon page 35 of This Is Animation Special Macross 7. That does look like the revised version of the Fz-109F Elgerzorene in the size comparison shot with the other valkyries. I own this book too, so I've got access to that image already. I'm looking for the source materials for the images I posted in the pictures of my first topic post. I have the Fz-109F Battroid thanks to the Macross 7 Sketchbook but I need the Fz-109A Battroid and the FBz-99G Battroid. Thanks for looking. It's nice to know the images aren't in any of the books you listed.
  16. Does this mean the "Alaska Base" title is now the official designation for this variant? If so, i guess i'll have to change the name of the profile on my website.
  17. Truly a rare treat to see a model of this. Canuck did a great job, as always. I'm familiar with his work and I believe I've even favorited/praised his content on Deviantart over the years.
  18. Damn, I missed this. Those are great logos Zinjab (miss me?) Seriously, fine work. I love them all, but I'm particularly fond of the hammer logo.
  19. Thanks jvmacross. The FBz-99G Saubergeran is the commonly found type, but the two Fz-109 Elgerzorene mecah are definitely the rare art I was looking for. I'll look into obtaining this book. Just out of curiosity, is the line art for the Varauta Battroid fairly large on the page or is the art kinda small?
  20. I'm of two minds when I see people - famous or forgettable - frustrated like this. On the one hand, I do understand Mari's frustrations and can sympathize. It's an imperfect and VERY inefficient world we have created. A lot of talent is never realized, some never reaches full potential and even more is outright squandered. We see it every day and even as consumers, we participate in the horrible perpetuation of that tragedy. How much talent have we killed by paying money for mediocrity? Every time Michael Bay makes a movie, entire countries of real talent go forever unfinanced, LOL. But seriously, maybe Mari is a victim of our imperfect system. Perhaps she could have been more than the shadow of Minmay and Macross. If opportunity had been fostered and circumstances more favourable, maybe Mari could have opened our minds and hearts with much music we have not heard otherwise (some might argue she has). Wouldn't be the first time there were potential works of art we simply failed to imagine. On the other hand, it makes me wonder if these famous folks like Mari are ever thankful at all that they had even some small impact on human culture. The vast majority of us will never have that honor. Even so, have folks like Mari ever considered the fact that their talents might not go beyond what they are known for? I mean let's be honest, what was Mari expecting to achieve with her music? High art? Social change? To paraphrase one of my favorite films; "If Mari was the inventor of a new genre, she'd have invented a new genre". Mari is not The Beatles...she's not The Clash...in the annals of music history, she might not even be Diana Ross. Maybe she could have been more...but isn't it just as possible Mari never was more than what she has been? I don't have an answer for certain but it comes across to me as rather arrogant of her to simply take that for granted. I will say that in spite of her frustrations I wish her the best and hope she does reconcile her path in life. Some of her music reached me and I'm grateful for that. I hope she can be too.
  21. I very much noticed the "glossy metal" style shading from the animation. I've tried to replicate it myself, sometimes with really good results, but it's hard to get it right. My greatest success has been the Fan Liner, which will be seen in the next update. You've pretty much got it perfect on your Valkyries in this picture. They look astounding. I'd like to at least do one set - likely the VF-1J Valkyrie - in that style for the profile page on the M3 (Battroid, GERWALK, Fighter). That would be tough, but it would look so damned sweet and it would be something not found anywhere else
  22. Been waiting on this one for a long time and it doesn't disappoint. I hope one day to perhaps color one of the Valkyries as good as that. Well done, sir!
  23. Graham Fair enough, but just to clarify, modern gaming includes a large market now for small, indie games on all the major platforms. X-Box Live, PSN and especially Steam are the major platforms for all kinds of games because of the market potential/penetration of these platforms. For example, Limbo - a game you'd classify as a mobile-style game - is the third-highest selling game on the X-Box Live Arcade and has produced over $7M in sales. I'm not saying mobile gaming isn't also lucrative (it is), but I think there is a mistaken impression of how video games are sold and played. And some of us don't have a commute Oihan Glad to hear you're digging it. I'm still playing Fez too, but also doing Journey. I agree Fez is crazy fun and addictive. The soundtrack is amazing too. You can get it directly from the Disasterpeace website. http://disasterpeace.com/album/fez Can't recall how far I am into the game, but I've played several dozen hours. I'm mostly screwing around with it because it's just so much fun to explore and become absorbed by the soundtrack. I must say I'm also really gettign a kick out of the modern capabilities and visual effects merged with the low-res polygonal characters and environments. It's a chamring marriage of styles which I wouldn't have pegged for a great game.
  24. No worries and thanks for the fast replies. I look forward to the next episode. Keep up the good work!
  25. I listened to the entire podcast, all 3+ hours. I suppose that generous length is necessitated by the frequency at which you're releasing these podcats (once a month? whenever?). Overall, quite a bit of good discussion on a range of topics, interesting trivia and I like how you just roll with the conversations. I did appreciate that many of the crew sounded involved and knowledgable which made for an educational listen. Might actually be a little too in-depth for me, since my diet of anime is not as intense. Perhaps i'm just not the right listener for this type of podcast. As criticism I might say it was too long for me and did tend to drag as a result. But I can see myself playing an episode of the podcast while I'm working on new art for the website One other thing I thought I'd mention is the podcast felt just a little insular. Even something as simple as identifying yourselves via your forum nicks would open it up. I know few people in this community by their real names, so mentioning the MW alias for each person would help (if they have them). If you're already doing this and I just don't recognize the names, my apologies
