  1. Making plans to see this one sometime this weekend. Can't wait. Loved the first film.
  2. Gorgeous! Excellent work once again.
  3. I don't believe that fans necessarily think of Isamu as NOT around after the events of 2040AD. It's just that we don't see any of the Macross Plus story after the events in the OVA/Film, so there's a natural audience tendency to accept that story line - and all it's characters - as finished. Even though we all understand that the surviving character's lives - hopefully - will continue for a long while, narratively we tend to think of the story as dead; and by extension, we tend to think of the characters as narratively dead (they had happy lives afterward, raised children, had a husband/wife, died of old age). So when we see a beloved character again from an old story that was last left finished to our knowledge, we naturally feel surprise. We might say to ourselves; "Oh, they're still around?!? That's nice to know".
  4. Welcome back and what a welcome you should have! Your work is amazing. I've seen the power of Maya before and this is again an astonishing model done in that software. The detail of your work is excellent. I especially like the lighting, which gives the model a very realistic appearance. In spite of the low polygon count, this looks great.
  5. Saw the film on the weekend and was quite entertained. An unexpectedly good action film with strong performances across the board. The film is also surprisiningly funny. You'd not think it from the marketing, but the creators have a lot of fun with the time-cycling concept resulting in some truly hilarious moments. Oh yeah, Emily Blunt has an amazing role here as the greatest war hero of the story, which could position her as an incredible badass action hero for other films. Very impressive...hmmmm...yes indeed
  6. Wow, what a great trailer and what an amazing mod. I had no idea about this project. I still have to play through Enemy Within for the new X-Com game, but when I go back to the original X-Com, I think I can see myself adopting this version and forgetting the old DOS Box one I've been playing. Quality-of-life improvements indeed! Very impressive!
  7. This is the real problem with any sequel, not just Macross. Once the first Macross was released, the world is forever and unavoidably in a post-Macross existence. It can't be taken back. As such, no audience will find a sequel as enjoyable or fresh as they did before the original was released. So each sequel will be plauged by ever diminishing returns. As creators the writers try to find ways to make sequels different than the original specifically because more of the same is a downward spiral where familiarity breeds contempt. In the case of Macross, you also have one guy creating the franchise and there is his interest/motivation to take into account, which is obviously a big deal for Kawamori (as it should be for any writer interested in maintaining creativity). So I really like the idea of Macross playing broadly with the formula, even when it fails. Personally, I'd rather suffer an interesting failure than endure mediocrity.
  8. Uh yeah, that looks pretty damned badass. And just as I suspected from your description, a really good torso v-shape. This looks amazing so far. Well done!
  9. Oh excellent! Forget my stupid idea then. Can't wait to see the big poster! Sounds legendary!
  10. Gawd damnit you are making some seriously cool customs. I gotta finish all my revised profiles of the original mecha so I can build some of these. This one is even better than your last! I love the design. Well done!
  11. Oh, hell yes! Not only am I and a bunch of my friends following Star Citizen with enthusiastic interest (several of us have already purchased packages), but I've had several dreams about Macross mods for this game. The best has been a YF-19 hangar scene mod for the game that "somewhat" mimics the infamous hand-plane sequence in Macross Plus. I figured it would be awesome if you entered your own hangar for your own ship only to see a fellow in a blue and grey flight suit in the adjoining "empty" hangar walking about waving his hand around in the air, a tune featuring southern guitar playing faintly on some audio system in the background. Then as you watch, the sound of a large lift rings out and the YF-19 Fighter slowly rises into the hangar from below. As the "unknown" pilot adorns his flight helmet prior to entering the cockpit of his "fighter", the bay doors between your hangar and his begin to close. Just before closing the "pilot" takes note of you and flicks a thumbs up Ah, if only...

    VF-1J sketch

Oh yeah, I love the style of your art! Very dramatic. I particularly like your fighter mode drawing, not a view of the VF-1J that we get to see often. Great work!
  13. Well, you've definitelty created a challenge for yourself I'm not sure this craft was ever created with any mode in mind other than the fighter. So like the VF-4 Lightning, there's probably going to be a lot of awkwardness and magic to make it work in a Battroid configuration. But I'm really curious to see what you come up with. This is a very ambitious project and I can't wait to see more. The model looks amazing. I actually follow a lot of what you're saying in your current transformation description. It makes sense. Not sure about the arms section yet, but I think you've got a REALLY good idea for the fuselage-to-torso transformation. In fact, I think that it may make the Battroid torso look very v-shaped and dramatic. Even better, it sounds original compared to any other transformation.
  14. Excellent work. I like the pose as well. I think maybe a more Earth-bound background would work better simply because most of Shin's story took place planet-side. But otherwise, great work as always.
  15. Wow! These figures and new models look great! I don't know anything about the model building world, but I am impressed by the dramatic proportions and incredible detail on these models. Thanks for posting!
  16. Seto IMO that's way too far of a leap and too far removed from the SDF Macross series (M2 vs. mainline Macross) to draw conclusions of the VF-1 vs. the Zentran mecha. Regarding Klan's statement in Frontier I was wondering about that myself in my previous post. Again, it makes sense the UN/NUNS Zentradi COULD develop better versions of the traditional Zentradi mecha (though this is never stated). But the Zentradi Army? They have no mechanics, scientists or engineers and no society doing any research or development. The Zentradi Army appears to be in technological stasis and have been for hundreds of thousands of years. They are using mecha and ships that were designed many milennia ago and haven't changed since. Once Earth humans started using OverTechnology and developing improvements over time, one has to think the Zentradi Army will fall behind rather quickly. JBO LOL! No need to budge, the more that is said in this thread the more I understand this is simply different interpretation from different fans. Like I said, each mecha on their own may have strengths or weaknesses. Perhaps some valkyries have improvements over earlier valkyries. But that's a far cry from any direct comparisons I can see in the show or read in the trivia between the valkyries and the Zentradi mecha. Nonetheless, I do see your point that the Super Packs are a space-specific modification made to enahce an all-regime fighter. However, I'm just not exactly certain of the implementation either way; are they "enhancement", do they make up for glaring "deficiency", etc. As far as plot, yes, I agree seeing things from the perspective of the main characters bias' audience interpretation. But I've already accounted for that and I'm specifically thinking about SWI on a macro-scale (a few hundred valks vs. tens of thousands of zentradi). Like I said, even attrition cannot explain such losses as there's simply not enough valkyries to destroy enough enemies. So I'm left to think it's either narrative conceit or superior tactics/technology. Given the Zentradi have far superior space combat experience, I think I'll stick with the explanation that the course of the war is the demand of the plot that it work. Not much else makes sense.
  17. It's possible, but honestly I still think the issue here is perception. Nothing of this comes from the SDF Macross series and these pieces of official trivia are comparing "valkyries", not any Zentradi mecha nor do they imply such disparity between the two. In fact, nothing official (animated or written) supports a "trade off" that Zentradi=superior in space, valkyries=superior in atmosphere. For all that I criticize about the Zentradi as flying bricks, we never see this play out in any animated sequence as some "significant" disadvantage. I admit this theory is equally as valid as my own interpretation, but no more or less. We also should all understand official trivia for a new Valkyrie must speak to it's improvement above older fighters so that it's advancement is justified, even if the narrative effect is zero. I spoke of this in another thread about the supposedly advanced technology of new generation valkyries that have zero effect in any animated sequence or narrative. I agree the Zentradi forces in the original series were indeed trying to capture NOT destroy the SDF-1 Macross; and therein lies the point; the SDF-1. The Zentradi wanted that rebuilt Supervision Army ship and couldn't care less about valkyries, ghost fighters or destroids. In fact, the more valkyries, ghost fighters and destroids the Zentradi destroyed, the easier it was to capture the SDF-1 Macross. Which is what almost happened in your example. IMO, attrition can't explain such losses; the Zentradi were losing 10-1. As for the finale of SWI, a 10-1 numbers advantage in the series proper is a far cry from the 5,000,000-1 advantage seen in the end game Having said all that, I agree that the VF-1 Valkyrie is an all-regime craft that clearly won't be superior at any one role. The animation would support such via the narrative and the existence of the Super/Armor enhancements. But to torpedo my own theory, the animation also doesn't show the Valkyrie as "far superior" to any of the Zentradi mecha in any regard, unless the plot demands. Most combat scenes in SDF Macross depict cannon fodder valkyries falling in battle as frequently as any force of Regulds, Gnerls or Power Armor (sans main characters). The only reason I personally feel the Valkyries must have been all around superior craft to the Zentradi was simply to explain the UN SPacy survival in the face of allied vs. enemy numbers. Suspension of disbelief and all that. I think I'll stick with the explanation is a narrative conceit. But I still think it's fun to believe the VF-1 Valkyrie was just so good that it wasted hordes of Zentradi
  18. Continues to look enticing. The only worry I personally have is that it will be released during a time when I am getting involved in too many other games with as much or more potential than Destiny itself. Star Citizen is coming, Evolve is on the way too, and there's also Wasteland 2. It's getting a little crowded for me
  19. Not sure I see it like that, but I suppose a lot of this discussion would be based upon individual perception. Watching SDF Macross I never got the impression the VF-1 was a compromised space fighter craft or that the Zentradi mecha were so much faster/maneuverable than the VF-1 Valkyrie in space. The Super and Armor packs to me are optimization for a specific role, not supplementation to carry a compromised base model. I got the impression the UN Spacy forces were pretty much superior to the Zentradi mecha and it was only because they were vastly outnumbered that the UN Spacy was on it's heels most of Space War I. Otherwise I'd have trouble reconciling why a force of a few hundred valkyries (supported by Ghost fighters and Destroids) managed to fend off tens of thousands of Zentradi mecha repeatedly. But perhaps the perceived performance disparity between the VF-1 Valkyrie and the Zentradi mecha is a fault of the story - a narrative conceit - and was never meant to reflect relative performance of the two mecha forces. Then again, even if the two mecha forces were contrasting compromises in performance, it always made me wonder how the Zentradi remained any kind of threat POST-Space War I. I mean, aren't the Zentradi mecha effectively static when we talk of technology? It's not like anyone in the Zentradi Armies are developing new mecha, or researching technology, only rogue Zentradi that contacted the humans in Space War I would learn to do that. As we move past the many eras of Macross, into Flashback 2012, Macross Plus, Macross 7 and Macross Frontier, the Valkyries are vastly improving performance and technology, but the Zentradi/Meltrandi main fleets are still using Nousjadeul-Gers, Gnerls, Regulds and Queadluun-Raus. After a while, wouldn't it be like World War I biplanes fighting against stealth jet fighters?
  20. I think it's funny how none of the Zentradi mecha are aerodynamic; they're all flying bricks. The Nousjaduel-Ger, the Queadluun-Rau, the Reguld and Glaug, even the Gnerl is about as aerodynamic as a Golf. It's no wonder the UN Spacy forces managed to be so successful against the superior numbers of the Zentradi; the Valkyries probably flew circles around the Zentradi in planet-side aerial combat
  21. Reviews have been good and word of mouth is also very good. This wasn't on my radar but now I think i'll check it out.
  22. Don't even joke about that. I swear I will jump off the top of Orthanc with a dagger in my back if they publish this series again!
  23. Look on the bright side; only four more chances to be disappoointed
