Absolutely bizarre. Your description appears to me as if this Robotech franchise is in a perpetual limbo, one that is marginally sustained economically but is never successful enough that HG could fund a production with any modern legitimacy. A small company that sells comics, toys and re-releases of an old show to turn a small profit from a small niche consumer base. Such a strange little bubble this franchise occupies. One could almost make a documentary about it. More than anything I just want to see something daring from the next Macross series. Everyone knows I love my mecha porn, but I love good dramatic/emotional story telling far more. It just enhances the mecha porn to even greater heights

I know I'm completely unfamiliar with anything Harmony Gold and what they do with their Robotech version of the SDF Macross series, but after following those links and reading those posts I just have to ask; why are they all discussing anime, Japan, the Macross franchise, etc? I was under the impression Robotech fans prefer their version of Macross because it's Americanized and eliminates as much of the Japanese regionalism, culture and character as possible. Am I wrong? Just a little perplexed here to see so much anime talk on such a website. LOL, yeah, that seems a rather bizarre business plan.

Costume looks amazing. Pulls on all the right strings to make me fangasm. Which is precisely the problem with the last few Snyder films I've been suckered into believing had a chance to be great. I will adore ALL visual styling of this film and the trailer will have me in tears with it's awesomeness and beauty, only for all this to produce nothing less than a disappointing experience watching the actual movie. Been like that with Snyder ever since "300". Tired of giving this guy chances thinking he'll deliver on his earlier promise. Never going to happen. I'll wait for word of mouth for any film of his going forward. Snyder will have to work hard to drag me back and nothing less than a legitimate masterpiece will do.

So sad that yet another genre legend passes. It's the strangest thing to think of how I loved this man's work so much and yet it was so hideous that it terrified me to the core. I think H.R. Giger may be the first exposure I had to the idea that horror and tragedy could be artistic and incredibly beautiful. A somber farewell to the master of the grotesquely exquisite.

That would be the best version of this new film. It's far past time for a female Star Wars lead.

What the hell is Bruno Heller doing as show runner for this? Is it a paycheck job? Or is a broadcast network actually going to allow the man behind Rome to do something with this show?

I definitely like the cockney blond look of the Constantine character (reminds me a bit of Guy Pearce from Memento, sans accent) as it fits much better with the comics. And they do seem to be going for the irreverant dark humor of the character, which is good. But like I said, I'm not feeling the excitement so far. I too liked the "Contsantine" movie more than I care to admit most of the time, but only as it's own thing and not really a Hellblazer adaptation.

Exactly! Half the fun of being on the internet is ignorantly ignoring the fact that "Lucas", "small hands" or "small feet!" might not be relevant at all, yet screaming them all the same

Like all broadcast series made by major stuidos nowadays, it has some impressive looking potential and attractive production pieces hampered by the very nature of it being a broadcast series made by a major studio. Every time I see something like "Hannibal" or "Constantine" I'm always thinking; "Damn, wouldn't this be a great series if only it were done by FX/AMC/HBO"

I like that definition; the level of absurdity and what works within that context. To be generous, I can understand folks being fond of something so much they have a hard time operating "outside the lines". After all, the success of the Macross formula and the emotional impact it has on fans is the reason we love Macross so much. But yes, we should all be able to accept a certain latitude to venture outside of that established format and enjoy Macross for what it is. Course, there are exceptions that would test even the most generous interpretation, but no need to turn this into yet another debate about you-know-which-Macross series As for Itano, I have to say it's really becoming tiresome listening to these old guys spout "criticisms" that are in reality just poorly disguised obsolesence on their own part. Itano is signing to the same tune as the likes of Lucas, Benedict, etc, which is basically the same song really, only with tiny tedious variations. There's something these guys lack in their understanding of pop culture history before Macross and an inability to accept that nature abhors a vaccum going forward that really rubs me the wrong way. There's plenty to criticize about the Macross sequels, but listening to Itano harp about technical minutiae and then dive off into crticism of the strongest written character in Frontier is where the true absurdity lies. Some of what Itano says comes across as disturbing, if not outright misogynist. Perhaps that's not what he meant or perhaps the translation creates this faulty impression. But whether Itano's intentions are noble or nefarious, I don't like them either way. Is it so much to ask that at least one of my admired heroes NOT turn out to be such an angry old man stereotype?

And here I was excited when they changed the VF-11MAXL Custom painting in the A Sheet to the fighter mode. I was hoping this awful painting wouldn't appear in the DeAgostini series, mores the pity

AKIRA LIVE ACTION MOVIE = Life Support?

Very impressive! That was well-made. -
My pleasure. I'm working on an updated version for my website as well, which - once finished - I'll be happy to share with you if you like.

Don't know if I really have any answers, just more speculation that might make sense. Isn't some sort of light/projection upon the inner side of the City shells necessary for a day-night cycle? Otherwise the whole city would be perpetually dark travelling through deep space. I believe the cities are large enough that the atmosphere within will have some affect on what can be seen outside the shell. As for the open dome, it makes sense that for a healthy population accustomed to residency upon planets, you'd want to have an artificial long-term colony spacecraft using a system that provides as much of a view of open space as possible. In this manner, residents feel like standing on the surface of a planet such as Earth or Eden, which is of course open to the vacuum.

Interstellar - In cinemas and IMAX November 7, 2014
Mr March replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Incredible poster. But damnit, I don't want to see anymore trailers! That teaser is enough. The money is already spent. In my head, I'm already there. The teaser is all I want to see before the moment I sit down to watch the film at the end of this year. I'm going to see Godzilla opening night, I'm going to make sure I take my head phones and listen to music on my phone during that trailer- 197 replies

IMO, the VF-XS gun pod still stands as the far superior design for any gun pod from the Macross II anime. I'd even go so far as to say the gun pod looks good even by the benchmark of all gun pods, the broader Macross franchise included. It's a damned shame this design was lost at the concept stage of development because it was a fantastic looking weapon. If I ever get a hold of high resolution scans for this mecha and the gun pod, I'd build a proper colored version for the M3 site. I hope you find the images you're looking for. A model of this craft would certainly be interesting and most definitely a unique fan project. No one's ever built one to my knowledge and few Macross fans even know it exists.

I can't speak for others, but for me the problem I have with the DYRL? Blu-Ray release is primarily the censorship. However, the quality angered me as well. But even more than both of those reasons, the problems with DYRL are just a symptom of a far greater disease that has been plaguing the release of old movies/tv series on DVD and Blu-Ray for years. I've dropped more favorite films from part of my collection than I care to count because of this after-the-fact garbage. Not just censorship (ala Lucas' now infamous Han-shot-first debacle), but other forms of abuse like the infamous DNR (Digital Noise Reduction) on Predator (1987) or the CGI and color grading on Ghost in the Shell.

Oh, I also noted you've used the VT-1 Super Ostrich GERWALK colored line art from my website as your avatar. In the next version of my website I have built a far superior revised colored version of that line art which I'm sure will please you. I don't want to spoil anyone by sharing the full image until the update is released, but I'm happy to provide a small thumbnail image ideal for your Macross World avatar. I hope you like it.

Absolutely amazing work! I know well of this image from my own copy of the Macross Perfect Memory art book. For reasons that I assume are obvious, I love the drawing and coloring you've done for these pictures. I also really appreciate that you created a several variants (again, just my MO). Your colors are spot on as far as I can tell, which I'm hoping you accept as high praise from an amateur colorist like myself. Typically I'm not a fan of SD, but I just adore what you've done here. I'd love to host these images on my website if you'll permit me. Again, bravo! And welcome to the Macross World community. You've made one helluva introduction!
