Amazing scene. A good reminder that I need to pick this up on Blu-ray. Love it.

Very intersting custom. It's certainly something unique and works much better than I would have thought. If I was just told the concept without any visuals I might not have thought it was a good idea. But the results are amazing. Very well done indeed! I like it.

Kaneda's Bike Definitely have to see this for myself then. I adore plenty of films that have "one of those endings". While those endings are no guarantee of quality (believe me, I've seen enough to know) it does have a good shot of actually doing something interesting.

Oh yeah, this is on my radar. The trailer was phenomenal. Word of mouth has been good, but we'll see. Certainly something worth giving a chance.

His work may have long ceased any pop culture relevance, but Smith is still a very entertaining live performer. IMO, it's the only thing of his that was ever worth watching and I think his public appearances are still entertaining. At least the are getting the sets right

Macross: Do You Remember Love's 30th Anniversary
Mr March replied to UN Spacy's topic in Movies and TV Series
I'm also another fella REALLY LATE to the DYRL? party. I believe the first time I watched it was on a bootleg DVD at the end of the 1990's or early 2000s. It was astounding, a feature film of all my beloved charactes from SDF Macross but in such high quality animated glory that rivalved the best anime movies. I watched DYRL? during the dawn of the internet and even though I knew more about Macross than I had ever known before (thanks to Macross online fandom), the Macross movie was yet another mystery to me that created an Itano Circus of questions... Why was the story different from SDF Macross? What happened to the SDF-1 Macross design? Why did they change the way Roy died? Kakizaki? What was going on with the female Zentradi? Did they call them Meltrandi? What were all these new valkyrie variants called? For me it was like the Macross Plus era yet again, discovering for the first time all these things I didn't know about the fictional world of Macross. I remember the excitement and the thrill of rediscovering Macross through the film. Watching it so many years after the original series made me fall in love with the franchise all over again. It was like discovering a great film or a great band from the 1980's that I somehow missed. I remember how grateful I was that DYRL? existed. It's a feeling I still have even after all these years. Still working hard on the next update for my website, but in honor of DYRL? I'll share a piece of new material for the movie section that is part of the next update. We remember love!- 31 replies

Robotech Academy - You want a new Robotech series...?
Mr March replied to Einherjar's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
If some Robotech fans are seriously considering a donation to this kickstarter, they should be thinking about this sentence skullmilitia wrote. The legitimate Kickstarters are crowdfunding projects for individuals without corporations, their own money or initial investment. These are people that either have no company or will start a company via the kickstarter itself. That have no income from business operations and don't own franchises or receive royalties. The Ouya Video Game Console kickstarter. The Veronica Mars Film Adaptation kickstarter. The kickstarter for indie film "Wish I was Here" by "Scrubs" actor Zack Braff. And of course the most successful kickstarter to date, the Star Citizen Video Game by Wing Commander/Privateer veteran game maker Chris Roberts. These are legitimate kickstarters. Harmony Gold is an established and long-running company (based primarly upon a property ownership business) that has owned and allegedly "profited" from their Robotech IP for decades. For a company like HG to publically request donation tells you this company is NOT a business. It means they cannot obtain financing because investors don't believe in them or their product. It means their own company won't commit to funding a Robotech IP project that they own! It means they've run a company for decades that cannot - or are not willing to - fund their own business ventures. A 20+ year entertainment media company that cannot produce it's own entertainment media. That's not a business; that should be called defunct. Seriously, this Robotech kickstarter is as far from a competent business as it gets. Fans should look at this with their eyes wide open.- 2025 replies

Robotech Academy - You want a new Robotech series...?
Mr March replied to Einherjar's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
"You want money? What sort of terrorists are you?" That synopsis sounds like a horrible idea for a sequel. And that funding goal is insane. Some of the best independent films have been funded to completion with less money than HG is asking for just a 24 minute pilot! Yeah, naw...I will never give a penny to Harmony Gold- 2025 replies

Whatever you do, I please ask that you don't make a 3D model from the orthographics you posted in your orignal post. The legs/engines in those schematics are wrong. I have a very good scan of Kawamori's original VF-1 schematics, which I'll include here. There are schematics of many different variable fighters in a number of the old, out of print art books for the Macross series. Debate rages about the accuracy of the older schematics (for which critics are mostly right to question) but priority was not placed on complete orthographic diagrams (fighter, GERWALK, battroid) for most of the valkyries. The Master File series of books do include rather extensive orthographic diagrams of the various variable fighters, so you may want to look at purchasing those books. I have the VF-1, VF-19 and VF-25 books and they all have orthographics of the valkyries.

I've been enjoying Korean films for almost 10 years now and I've actually seen several of Bong Joon-Ho's other films, most recently "Mother" (which was excellent). So I'm kinda curious to see his English language efforts in this new film. Review have been strong and the movie is making a ton of cash. Hope it's as good as advertised.

I want them all to be good. But if Johnson's 2nd film (and his script for the third) are the better of the three, well that's okay too This being MW, I seriously doubt you're alone But seriously, no big deal. Personally, I have much more faith in Johnson's ability to make a good Star Wars film than Abrams. I just wish Johnson was going first instead of Abrams, so if he messed up I wouldn't have to give this series a second chance. I just have no patience for these trilogies or franchises anymore, like Pirates, Transformers, Matrix, etc. I'm long past the age where I keep watching in vain, desparately hoping the films will improve with sequels. First sign of decline, I'm out. I just hope we get good Abrams this first time at the helm and not bad Abrams.

Love Rian Johnson and he's kind of a film/internet geek mascot, so it's great to see a guy I've followed for so long doing so well. From Brick to Breaking Bad to Looper, he's easily one of my favorite directors currently working. I'd probably prefer Johnson doing the Star Wars films over Abrams. I will say this; I've said several times that Star Wars - to a viewer like me - cannot rely upon nostalgia or brand recognition anymore because I have been ruined by the lousy prequels. So it's my feeling this first new Star Wars VII film from Abrams has to be a great film, otherwise I won't see another. But I have to say that even if this first new episode is kind average, I'd seriously consider coming back to the series to see if Rian can pull off something far more interesting with VIII and IX.

You didn't miss anything, you're correct. At least in the context of the Macross Plus OVA and films, we as the audience are never informed of Marj (Marge?) Gueldoa's motives, reasons or history prior to the events of the Sharon Apple Incident. In fact, we're not even given enough in either the OVA or film to fully believe Marj/Marge as a properly formed "twirl's-his-moustache" kind of comic book villain. IMO, it's a weakness in the script. Macross has featured horribly underwritten conspiracies in almost every iteration of the franchise (both benign and malignant), which I've kinda learned to accept as intentionally written down for the target audience (mostly children). Since Macross Plus is written for a more mature audience, I can only conclude it's just a weak element in an otherwise compelling story. In my personal interpretation of Macross Plus, I imagine Marj/Marge Geuldoa is simply a follower in the whole story, used by the higher-level conspirators (General Gomez, the Consortium, etc) because of his position and because he's unstable enough to actually go along with the A.I. coup, something "a visionary can appreciate". Sharon Apple may have "helped" Marj/Marge commit suicide by influencing an already unstable man to simply die as a symbol of his "visonary" accomplishments.

That's a cool idea. Independent development and different priorities would have lead to a more space-based Valkyrie. I like it.

Found a scan of the Macross Plus Archives booklet that uses the logo: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_-s_hXazHHnk/TABALYzO5CI/AAAAAAAABbE/kWe3tm7hpoQ/s1600/Macross+Plus+-+Remaster+DVD+Booklet.jpg Hope that helps. I also made a quick scan of the booklet myself for inclusion in the next update of my website.

Incredible work! The results are truly outstanding given how old the source material is. I've adopted a similar philosophy for coloring line art, LOL. I think the weathering and rust look particularly good. Built to last, but in dreadful disrepair; a very Zentradi-like mindset. Bravo!

Nice picture. I like the composition, the angle from behind the cockpit and how she's looking rearward. Good stuff.

Label me surprised because apparently this film is getting some positive word of mouth. I'm still not on board yet; too skeptical of all the remakes after so many bad ones. I figure this film will have to produce a fairly substantial impact on the blog-o-sphere before I'll jump aboard. But I will say it is building something. The casting and look of the film are certainly attractive. Even the synopsis sounds interesting. Those who have seen the film are writing that the movie is one long chase. Good chase films are rare, but can be incredibly rewarding when done correctly. Gotta say, I find Charlize Theron's willingness to subvert her own good looks in many of her best film roles is an admirable trait. I still think that despite her controlled image, she comes across as a borderline intolerable arrogant ass in interviews, in a similar vien to James Cameron. But luckily I don't have to know her, I only need her to perform well in her film roles which she always does, even in bad movies (ex. Snow White and the Huntsman)

I love it! Wow, what an amazing job you've done. The craft looks menacing with the colors you've painted. You achieved a real sense of depth and weight using the colors. I'm very impressed. Only thing I might critique is the deployed sensor array; the dish looks a little to deep and bright yellow. I only say this because as part of my next update, I carefully reviewed the footage of SDF Macross series to color a new version of the sensor array. The yellow is fairly pale, almost tan, at least in the close-up scenes. If you're interested, here is the revised version I colored. Again, fantastic work. I'm amazed by what you've done. The best model of the theatre scout that I've ever seen.

The information for the SW-XA fighters that appears on the Macross Mecha Manual is taken from the Egan's Macross Compendium under the SW-XA1 Schneeblume (http://macross.anime.net/wiki/SW-XA1_Schneeblume). Keep in mind the written trivia about the VF-X Experiment from Character Model magazine speaks in vague terms only about the SW-XA series and this trivia may relate more to the SW-XA1 Schneeblume than the SW-XA2 Schneegans. Regardless there isn't a lot of translated information on either and they are clearly designated as craft that are outside the official continuity. Think of them best as concept art work and treat them as such. So basically, any theory about them should be just as good as another Personally, I feel both craft are very much a product of their era. They feel incredibly Macross Plus-like in their low-radar-cross-section hull designs and overall hull style. Both designs clearly borrow from pre-existing official Valkyries, most obviously the YF-19, VF-11, VF-17 and original VF-1 craft. But they don't feel anywhere outside of the 2040s era to my mind and may even be a little before that era. IMO, the SW-XA1 Schneeblume looks like what the VF-0 Phoenix might have been (or perhaps a proto-VF-11 Thunderbolt if the Thunderbolt never was) and the SW-XAII Schneegans looks like what the YF-19/VF-19 Excalibur could have been.

I think JB0 hit it on the head; the word was formerly used as a Zentradi language expletive, now used as a cultural phrase or meme. For my own website encyclopedia, I wrote a brief entry that details all the official information I know about the word "deculture (de culcha)" and my understanding of it. I'll post it below: I hope that helps your analysis. And welcome to Macross World!
