  1. I thought that Since we seemed to lack a general Mecha discussion thread, I'd start one. Questions, Comments, Debates, whatever could go here. It would be really fantastic if this could get pinned, but I'll let the mods decide. Or they could decide that I'm just asinine and delete this thread. I hope not... So to kick it off I'll toss a Question out there: What is the best Variable fighter in Macross? I say the VF-11. It looks cool, Probably has the longest service life of any VF in universe and has been flown by more hero characters than any other (I think, I know that M&M flew the prototype, and also first run production models probably, Isamu, Kinryu, Ray Lovelock, Gamlin, and Mylene all flew variants of the VF-11). What say you?
  2. Let's share real world technical references of Macross variable aircrafts that we noticed I'm going to start with an oddball VA-3 Intruder Silhouette inspiration: A-6E Split feet design inspiration: H.S. Buccaneer S2B
  3. Welcome to the Macross Delta Mecha/Technology Thread Guildlines Please limit your discussion of mecha and technology to this thread. This thread is not for discussing individual episodes or the story. Do not cross post. Please limit your discussion to mecha and technology seen in Macross Delta. Do not post any links to episodes or full soundtracks anywhere in the forum. This thread contains spoilers about mecha. Don't say we didn't warn you.
  4. Good day. I present this first issue in this glorious community, hoping it will be as clear as possible. We all know that in macross VF's use the technology of miniaturized thermonuclear reaction turbines that was created from the technology of ASS-1. Thanks to the OTEC it was possible to create these turbines applied from Valkyrie VF-1, the doubt that stands out is, if the turbines without taking into account the model of VF need to use external fuel, or is the power of the turbines themselves more than enough to not recharge anything else. I have seen some scenes in macross 7 and macross delta that recharge fuel to the VF I have that doubt. I hope it has been as clear as possible. greetings to all.
  5. Hi guys... hope I am doing ok in posting this thread. I introduced myself a couple of days ago, and now I´ll post some of my drawings . Hope you like them. I have a gallery at DeviantArt with all the works together, here are a few of them. Some of them are quite "famous" around the net ^^`
  6. Last night I was messing around with my Isamu YF-29 and thinking about some of the criticisms it's received for being very "Super Robot" like in many respects. It obviously has a lot of pointy bits hanging off of it and it's bristling with weapons. It got me thinking about the different weapon load-outs on all of the Valks and I realized that it took iterations from the 19, 21/22, 24/25/27 to eventually reach weapon load out parity with the VF-17. Something I found funny considering the 17 is about the opposite of the 29 in look (though no less pointy.) But look at it. The 17 has medium cannons in the forearms, the 29 has the high bore cannons on it's back. The 17 has the smaller cannons mounted towards the cockpit/chest. The 29 has smaller cannons in the wing roots which become the greeble bits on the hips in Gerwalk/Battroid. The 17 and 29 both have their main gun pods. They both also have rear facing light lasers as well. In addition the 17 has internal mini-missiles launchers in the shoulders. The 29 has the same. The 17 has internal room for heavier missiles as well, the 29 instead has more mini-missiles mounted to the legs. And that's before either of them have their Fast Packs mounted, which gives them both a lot more missiles. That's some pretty effective craft when you consider how little some of the other fighters carry. The VF-1 and 11 both only have their small bore lasers, gun pod and wing mounted missiles on their own. They seem positively defenseless. I thought it was interesting one extremely showy Valk and one very utilitarian looking Valk both wind up having very similar loud outs.
  7. I kinda got at this in my AVF Upgrade thread, and it's probably been on here at least a thousand times. But what's your favorite Macross Mecha of all time? I'll kick it off, I love the YF-19/VF-19A. It's got a dangerous sensuality to it. It's what my dad would call a sexy airplane (he's an old F106 driver). I like the forward swept wings, and the way it becomes an awesome robot. I asked mecha, so for you destroid lovers, you're welcome too. The destroids are interesting, being a battletech guy, I have a soft spot for them. I'd actually see a use for destroids, especially when given the existence of Macronized Zentradi elsewhere in the Macross universe. Variable fighters are expensive and there are only so many of them. I think destroids are highly underrated. What about y'all?

  18. I figured I'd start a thread about the VF-2SS Valkyrie from Macross II. I'm attempting to sneak in some Macross II profiles for the M3 before Macross Frontier gets underway in April. I'm very unfamiliar with Macross II. Unlike all the other Macross shows, I've only ever seen Macross II once and it was many years ago. Needless to say I didn't care for it, but I'm building a VF-2SS profile now so I'll need a bit of help. First off, I need to know if I got the colors correct. All the pictures online are very deceiving about the VF-2SS and some seem to give the fighter a blue tint. SO I've created a small comparison picture that I'd like fans to review and comment. EDIT Removed original pictures and inserted the most up to date color set Aside from the color, I'd like some information about the VF-2SS. There is next to nothing as far as statistics or official write ups, so the any official information you can provide would be appreciated. hellohikaru and Jedi Knight made a poster that contained some information, can they (or anyone else) confirm if these statistics are canon? Basically, I'm looking for facts and trivia I can build into a "Macross Mecha Manual-like" profile. What did the VF-2SS do? What are its capabilities? What is more advanced than previous generation Valkyries? If You've read the profiles on the M3, try to think about the kind of information that would fit into such a profile for the VF-2SS. Any help is appreciated.
  19. which one is the best overall fighter in the latest macross timeline so far? and why?
  20. I am not sure if someone posted this already. But let's give it a try mine are Roy Fockers VF-1S the tv version, VF-25F Alto used and the YF-19.
  21. I always thought that the 200 rounds of the GU-11 55mm Gunpod seem insufficient for a weapon meant to be used in large scale battles, and later on in the SW1, used by rookies who would most likely end up wasting precious ammo. After hearing about the GPU-9 35mm Gunpod used by the VF-0, which has 550 rounds and can even be reloaded in the field, I wondered if it was possible that the VF-1 could also be equipped with this weapon depending on the situation. The GPU-9 could be the weapon given to rookie pilots and in situations where a prolongued battle could be expected, while the GU-11 could be used by more seasoned pilots, armored units and for situations where hand-to-hand combat or against heavily armored targets is expected. And just in case, has there been any retcon to the original specs of the GU-11 Gundpod (maybe after the release of Macross Zero)?
  22. Okay, so I was looking at Macross Mecha manual then Macross compendium and both sites list the VF-171/VF-171EX as have either 2 sets of laser weapons(VF-171) or laser/ 30mm heavy machine gun, but if I recall, doesn't the VF-17 have the dual barrel arm lasers, the chest cannon lasers, then the head turret lasers. Both versions of the VF-171 seem to have all the same weapons as well, but only two sets of weapons listed. I searched on the forum and couldn't find the answer. Did the VF-171's lose a set of weapons? Or are they just not listed? I am kinds confused. I think it would suck if the VF-171 lost those arm lasers but kept everything else weapons wise to make it a heavy battroid just like the VF-17. Can anyone shed some light? Thanks Twich
  23. I'm looking for some color reference for the VA-3 Invader from Macross Dynamite 7. Anyone have any screen caps or screen shots from the anime? I've got some stuff from VF-X2, but the color scheme looks different than the Dynamite 7 vehicle.
