    DX Chogokin VF-17S

MMmmmmmm but the gunpod mounting would almost certainly be totally wrong on a VF-22 also right? That YF-21 toy is not good... hard to imagine how a VF-22 made from it would be any better than a VF-17 made from the VF-171.
  3. It'd probably be more accurate to say that the 5th Generation VFs like the VF-25, VF-27, and VF-31 are derivatives of the YF-24 Evolution rather than direct descendants of it. The VF-25 and VF-27 were developed using the YF-24 Evolution as a starting point. However, the design was adjusted accordingly to suit the unique requirements of the emigrant government defense forces soliciting the new development and to either replace omitted Earth-proprietary technologies with locally-developed alternatives as well as the addition of locally-developed proprietary technology. The YF-29 and YF-30 are a bit more distant, since the YF-29 is a branch of VF-25 development that shares a lot of parts in common but also includes a lot of proprietary parts that were developed for its different operational profile, and the YF-30 is more a derivative of the YF-29. Probably worth noting that the art being referenced here is from Master File, not the series proper. The blisters on top of the head are present on the VF-25F type. I've seen nothing to that effect... aside from a brief note in Macross the Ride's Visual Book Vol.1 that the YF-25's composite sensor cluster is set up for data collection.

At this point a VF-22 would have been a better choise for Bandai. A different head and modified belly plates would have been easier. That gunpod mounting is totally wrong, you just can't remove it and no problem but that shows how halfa$$ed Bandai went with the 17.
  6. It seems to be aimed at an audience of people who enjoyed Star Trek: Discovery and thought it was a worthy installment in the Star Trek franchise. Watching this teaser, I was struck again by the same thought that struck me after I watched Section 31. Paramount seemingly doesn't understand that most Star Trek fans did not like Discovery and were either hate-watching it or holding out hope that it would Grow The Beard like TNG did after its lamentable first season. It's following Discovery's formula in pretty close formation. The protagonist is a resentful kid full of unprocessed childhood trauma who joins Starfleet via nepotism rather than talent. There's a giant alien category traitor from a one-temperment species (a Klingon med student), a girl with apparently-untreated severe autism, and some legacy characters who are there to convince fans to tune in (USS Voyager's EMH Mk.I and Jett Reno), and a ridiculously scenery chewing villain with no redeeming qualities whatsoever from a TOS-era species to make an unlikable main character seem less awful by comparison. You'd think Paramount would take stock of the audience review scores at some point and realize the pattern. Of the 64 seasons and movies put out so far, the 15 bottom ranked titles include all five seasons of Discovery, both seasons of Short Treks, Section 31, the first two seasons of Picard, and Strange New Worlds season 3. The only other titles on that list are the worst of the Old Trek movies... 5, TMP, Insurrection, and Nemesis. It seems to be a very similar premise to the unsuccessful Star Trek: Starfleet Academy comics from the 90's. That is to say, a diverse squad of freshman cadets including an everyman, an admiral's kid, proud warrior race guy, a Betazoid, and the clearly autistic one from the incoming class at Starfleet Academy's San Francisco campus are assigned to a supervising officer with multiple lifetimes of experience and pretty much never attend any classes because they're giving a ship right off the bat and spend all their time fighting threats to the Federation. The Starfleet Academy TV series has the everyman (played by Sandro Rosta), the admiral's kid (Bella Shepard), proud warrior race guy (Karim Diane), the Betazoid (Zoe Steiner), and the clearly autistic one (Kerrice Brooks). They've traded the Trill in for a half-Lanthanite played by Holly Hunter, added a spoiled rich kid (played by George Hawkins), and for a ship they have an actual starship not a Danube-class runabout, but the rest seems pretty on the nose. Having read the comic, I should probably just be grateful that they've skipped the inclusion of the other character archetype from the comic's cadet squad who was killed off and replaced by the Betazoid. The preachy Soapbox Sadie girl with the implausible backstory whose entire identity and character was tied up in oversimplifying a politically charged topic. Anson Mount carried the second season, that's why they gave him his own show... so he could carry the franchise.
  7. I'm not touching Starfleet Academy with a 10 foot pole. The first season of Discovery was mediocre at best, and while I'll admit to actually liking most of the second everything that's happened since they went to the future has been straight trash and I refuse to acknowledge it. Anything set after the early 2400's is non-canon in my book.
  8. Okay...somebody please initiate the self-destruct sequence for this steaming pile of QI'yaH...
  9. All of the line art was grabbed from Macross Mecha Manual, and definitely isn't perfect, but is good enough to draw distinctions from. I did a quick comparison back to what's shown on screen and it's a good representation. Good catch on the 25F missing the sensor pod, didn't even notice that. I'm with you on the head and using the 31A as a guide, that seems like a good fit. I don't think the YF-25 is too useful in this case, the shape doesn't lend itself to a top mount laser and the big dome on the front would be at least partially visible in that line art if that were the design. I half remember the YF-25 being designed the way it is for ECM purposes as well, though whether that has anything to do with the head shape, I have no idea. I've always had it in my head (based on nothing 'official', mind you) that the VF-24 was a seriously military, heavy combat oriented craft and so have always had a no nonsense design like the typical A shapes for its head turret. I almost wonder if something like the helm of a suit of armor would work, with a ridge or brow to protect the cyclops eye and give it a 'I mean business' vibe in battroid? I also think I have some lattitude to mess with the shoulders a bit to give it less of a 'football player' look like the 25s and maybe something a little more dangerous like the 27 (though obviously not that wide). Don't know. In the end, how much or little I do will mostly depend on how hard it turns out to be and how lazy I get. 😉

I Love the DX Chogokin VF-171EX renewal that I have, and this looks to be a nice design. I know that isn’t a popular opinion, but I think it would be a good addition to the upcoming VF-19 KaiFireValkyrie. Twich
  11. Same. This new one is so unappealing
  12. NOICE!!!
  13. I've said it before I believe in last years teaser, it's like they spent all their budget on hyper realistic scenery and backgrounds then said screw it on the rest. I liked the first movie, despite the fact it had very little mobile suit action let alone involvement and dealt more with the character drama and slow story progression. It still had some of the best animation a Gundam anime has ever had. But this though......it feels like a step back because they're trying to blend in realistic looking environments with 2D animation and jarring camera movements. I'm not to sure I'll be able to handle watching it like this.
  14. If I remember correctly Club Tamashii is a Japanese exclusive loyalty program. Depending on how much Tamashii Nations Exclusive items you buy directly from them you advance a ladder that allows you to enter lotteries and buy items that other members and the general public doesn’t have access to. I assume all the stores that act as a middleman for these items have the highest level of this membership scheme.
  15. I’ve been hearing that at this point there won’t be a season three and they’re just mostly gonna work the character into movie and show cameos. If that’s all true, then it really was a crappy way to end a show
  16. I was under the impression that it was kind of just a 25A or G head too, but upon closer inspection, it doesn't seem like it. The A and G don't have those vulcan(?) humps flanking the laser's mount, and the helmet contours are totalle different, not to mention the laser is different shaped. It's actually the 25F that looks closest to it. I think there's something wrong with the 25F line art you used for comparison. The red sensor box where the laser would normally be is totally missing. Inside those black stripes, similar to where the 24 has the vulcan humps, the 25F also has them. I can't tell if they are still there in the 25F's line art. The next closest thing is actually the 31A, having a single laser, and the vulcan humps, but the designs and proportions are off. One thing that's for sure is that the 24 definitely stows its head facing backwards. I'd say hacking (or clipping?) together a laser from 25A or 31A and copying 31A's lack of ears to the 25F's helmet would probably be the simplest approximation for the visible parts of the head. For the hidden parts, I guess you could take inspiration even from the YF-25, since it's the closest link to the 24 that we have. But I think there might have been lore that the YF's head looks intentionally primitive with a giant camera for testing reasons, so it may not truly represent any sort of lineage to the 24's designs.
  17. I much prefer the original chonky design. I'll stick with my Yamato.

I think they're making lemonade saying you can stow the gun in fighter unlike the old 1/65 they made.
  19. I just noticed this shot wasn't floating around before, I think... maybe it was added later? bandai's not even trying to hide that they are stowing the gunpod wrong lol
  20. I've no interest in the Timelines stuff thus far, but for a second, I entertained the thought of getting Armada Nemesis Prime, primarily for the articulated minicons, but $90 is far too steep a price for what you're getting. The way prices are rising on these things, I'm not sure how much longer I'll continue collecting, at least at my current level, which has already tapered over the last couple of years. I'm in for SS86 Starscream and Skywarp and for figs like Mirage that are in need of a good G1 mainline or SS figure, and any remaining minibots, but thanks to the main lines over the last few years, I have a pretty solid G1 collection with only a few holes to fill. Once those are filled, I may just reluctantly and regrettably retire from collecting. It's just getting too expensive. Too, I'm out of room for these things, so I also need to find some more storage/display solutions. Funny, when we moved from our two BR apartment, which itself seemed large to us initially, into our house, it felt like we had so much room. Our house is about 1600 sq ft, not huge by any stretch, but not small either, relative to many of the houses here in town. It took less than 20 years to fill much of that space, a great deal of it with my toy collections. So much plastic.
  21. Just came back from watching it. Yes sucks that Bruce isn’t in it but I had fun watching it. Lots of call outs to the previous two movies. NIN was great. They had a hard soundtrack to follow but the music fits. Ending and Post credit scene was definitely a setup for a Tron 4 I didn’t hate Jared in this movie, he was fine.

  24. I don't understand what I just watched. Is this for the current audience or new audience or older audience? I can't describe the premise or tone. You could take that trailer and reedit to make trailers for at least two different shows.
