I just noticed you put The Shinning instead of The Shining, but that may actually be even better+more accurate.- 1813 replies

All they have to do is greenlight Legacy, with Capt Seven of the 1701-G, and you've got a guaranteed audience. Is it guaranteed to be good? No, but it's got a heck of a lot better shot than what they're doing. "The latest Enterprise out exploring the cosmos". Basic, but we've veered off-track for a while now. DS9 was a great one-time experiment, but when like 3/4 of the shows lately are "not a ship of experienced people out exploring", it seems we've lost the core aspect of the franchise. There's always a cadet or "fresh from the academy" person on board, but when entire shows (don't forget Prodigy, and to a lesser degree Lower Decks) focus heavily on that, and not the people "actually good and experienced at the thing they do" it can drag things down, or stretch believability/plausibility. "Why are the noobs always saving the galaxy? What are the people who are actually supposed to be better at these things doing in the meantime?" ::edit:: OMG, I just realized I basically made an early TNG anti-Wesley post. Well, the sentiment remains...

A white speaker gunpod wouldn't be too far off from Mylene's. Guess they don't have an HMR MAXL very far along, if at all, or they could have used that.

As the Zolan Galactic Whale Patrol Unit are shown using less-lethal, shock rounds from their VF-5000G's gunpods, I always asumed the white Speaker Pod Launcher shown in the VF-19P lineart was also a less-lethal projectile launcher.

Looking great! A display case is on my wishlist. I have completed so many fun builds by now and they all just live in their boxes. It’s a shame. Might have to head to IKEA or maybe Santa will hook me up this year. Lol While waiting for paint to dry/cure I went ahead and built up this HG 1:144 L-Gaim Bat-Shu that Bandai put out. Wow it is such a well made kit. It is so dialed in with color separation, tight joints, and super creative/fun assembly to minimize seams. Maybe I’m easily impressed , but I was genuinely blown away. I look forward to coming back to this kit later and painting it. Should be a breeze considering the parts separation. I also have a OG HG L-Gaim in the stash and may get that built up soon. It’s fun to juggle these snap kits while digging into the old kits I love and that need way more attention.

I cancelled mine. I'm just not that curious about the engineering to buy a 1/60 I don't like.

This is not a VF-17S. It is a VF-171 doing a piss poor cosplay as a VF-17S. Legs are completely wrong. backplate is completely wrong. Shoulders are wrong. External gun pod mounting is wrong. Overall too skinny.

Upscaling a classic: yet another massive 3D-printed SDF-1
tekering replied to tekering's topic in The Workshop!
I'm pretty much done with the Prometheus. The bridge was definitely the biggest challenge. Again, the 3D model was not detailed enough, and I don't think something so small would survive resin printing anyway... ...so instead I scratchbuilt a conning tower with acupuncture needles and masking tape. I'm sure @pengbuzz would approve. 😉 Several, in fact... The TV version lacks significant surface detailing on the legs. Certainly not. Most of it's not my work, nor can anyone involved claim the IP rights... and I'm really more of a 3D-printing service than a virtual modeler, anyway. I do take commissions, though! 😊 -
Mainly that last sentence. Even though this is just a minor remold, it's not free for them to create the modifications, either money-wise or time/resource-wise. While "Max and Milia 1/48 VF-1J's" would cost them virtually nothing to create, and would sell out instantly worldwide.

Newly acquired Aoshima Legioss & Tread. Just a quick pic. @jenius Your YouTube & Anymoon reviews are spot on for the Aoshima version, I've only had the Toynami's prior and while this toy has its own QC issues, this Legioss is wielding two guns, arms up, legs locked in place because of the ratchet joints and hands that actually grip. I am thinking of either a Low Vis Navy custom or Maia's Alpha/Beta combo. RT Shadow Chronicles was a dud, but her color scheme was awesome IMO. However, finding her decals or stickers would probably require customs to be made.

Well, yes. The YF-24 program's stated objective was to develop a next (5th) generation main Variable Fighter for the (Earth/Central) New UN Forces. Based on what Macross Chronicle, Master File, and the Macross Frontier novelizations have had to say on the matter it does appear that a VF-24 was produced and was in the process of being adopted by the New UN Forces at the time things went to hell at the end of the Vajra conflict in 2059. Given that the only variant we've heard mention of is the VF-24A and presentation-wise it's basically a delta-wing VF-25 my inclination would be to suspect that it has an A-type head similar to the VF-25A and VF-31A. "Visor" type optics tend to be more of a "hero" option.

Not exactly ON the workbench, more beside it, but anyway, resurrected one of my two IKEA Deltofs from the garage today and found an extra power supply I forgot I bought like 15 years ago when I bought the cabinets! (Kitten 🐈 had chewed through the power cords when she was little years ago so the RGB LEDs hadn't worked since) . I did have tons of Macross stuff in these for years but for now anyway they are going to flank my new hobby desk with recent models/car collections in them!

That's all I needed. Going to see it in XD 3D on Tuesday night.

I should be within the target demographic for this: Just finishing the last 10ish episodes of my first watch-through of Macross 7. Reasonably invested collector of all things Macross. Missed any yamato releases. And yeah, I'm waiting for this to hit the bargain bin, if I ever get one at all. I've never been a huge fan of the vf-17 design (or 171), but it's grown on me a bit throughout the show. I think they just missed too hard on the design, especially the battroid. I'm not a huge stickler for anime accuracy, but this just doesn't have the same beefy presence in battroid that the show design has. It really is just too close to a re-painted vf-171 for me to be interested. I would have much preferred a vf-11 of some flavor. The tariffs and shipping don't help, but that's not what's really holding me back.

With EZY around the corner suddenly Bandai wants to cash in by reviving a previously abandoned line 😕 https://www.hlj.com/the-robot-spirits-side-labor-ingram-unit-1-reissue-banc693464 Pretty funny it's totally unchanged and won't even match the new EZY units. then again low effort Bandai? who's surprised *Cries in VF-17*

it's going to air whether I watch or not, so I will give it a few episodes to see how it does. Not too hyped unfortunately.

Yeah, the general availability of this one speaks volumes. Though I do suspect it's kind of a perfect storm of disinterest. Bad representation of a design that already had low international appeal, just due to the weirdness of the show it came from. Basically, anyone who really wanted one probably got the Yamato when it was new, and was happy with it. But since that point in time, there's really been nothing to make any new fans of the design. The Fire Valk at least has overlap with the YF-19, which is just eternally popular, but the VF-17 doesn't have that. Sadly, Bandai is chasing the international dollar with a design that has no real demand locally or abroad, rather than making stuff for their primary market that everyone wants, and would still jump through the financial hoops to get it.

The ECM or data collection thing for the YF-25's head is what I was thinking of. Guess that rules it out from looking too much like a 24. In the same vein, I've been thinking the 24 was intended to be more of a direct drop in replacement to the VF-11 (and 171), more so than the way the 17 was shoehorned into the role through modding it into 171. So I was thinking maybe going a little backwards helps with head design ideas. Then thinking back to Isamu's valks for single laser designs, it suddenly dawned on me, his custom 29 might literally have the closest head possible to the 24... If you want a more cyclops take to Isamu's jewel + visor design, I think the VF-0D is good place for inspiration. For a cyclops with brow look, I'm not sure how you are picturing it, but I think the 25A/G has a bit of that going on too. Maybe you can figure out how to roll all those ideas into one. Don't have much thoughts on the shoulders atm, but I'm wondering if that shield is long enough to fit a knife lol.

Yes, please, let's get back to some serious story telling. I don't mind a comedic episode or two, especially when they are funny, but don't try and fill out a season with them.
