I'd put more faith in the amateur reviewers and general audiences than the professional critics, mainly because the latter group are often indirectly in the employ of the studios via the media companies that own the papers and websites and seem to be afraid to give negative reviews unless the film or series is borderline unwatchable. 40+ point disparities between critic and audience scores are pretty common now. The audience scores are trending downward, but still well on the positive side of neutral... which is fair. Alien: Earth isn't unwatchably bad like The Acolyte or Star Trek: Discovery, both of which have 50+ point disparities between their glowing critical praise and scathing audience reviews. It's a clumsy effort that feels like it needed a bit more time in the oven, but it has spirit and in the flashback episode there's some sense that the showrunners do understand the assignment... or are at least copying the homework of someone who does. With a little work, Alien: Earth as a whole could've gone from iffy to good or even great, and the flashback episode could've gone from good to amazing with a bit more polish.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu - May 22, 2026
Seto Kaiba replied to sh9000's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
If so, that would make the decision to green-light the show's development and production a rather idiotic move. The entire premise of the series was "Boba Fett is back from his Disney Villain Death in Return of the Jedi and his new ambition is to take over Jabba the Hutt's criminal empire". Why green-light a series about an explicitly villainous bounty hunter at all if he has to be Mr. Space Rogers? If he can't be shown doing crime, why make the focus of the story his new life goal to change careers to Crime Lord and take over his old boss's criminal empire built on drug smuggling, slave trafficking, protection rackets, space piracy, and murder-for-hire? Poor Din was the one sane man poking his head into an Idiot Plot. That even a poorly written character could be written worse. Bo-Katan was always rather thinly written, and the people writing her often forget she was the right-hand man to the coup leader who framed and overthrew her sister and plunged Mandalore into the chaos that led to its takeover by Maul, the one who effectively started the civil war that led to its takeover by the Empire, etc. Considering how often poor Din tends to get overshadowed by characters from Filoni's past works... I'm a bit worried he's going to be playing second fiddle to the likes of Zeb and Rotta in his own movie.- 83 replies

Until Bo returned in season 3 to show that even a great character could also be written poorly.- 83 replies

Yeah as others have said, this just looks like an extended episode of the show, I didn't really expect anything more, but it looks like a TV show. Agreed on Bo, and I watched and loved Clone Wars and Rebels, she's a great character, but hi-jacking Mando's show was lame, and her saving the main character over and over got old fast. Book of Boba? Yikes, what a monumental waste of a beloved legacy character, now he's a bunty hunter that doesn't bounty hunt, a criminal leader of nothing, an assassin that doesn't assassinate, a toothless gangster that doesn't do gangster things, he's nothing to nobody, he's just a lump on a throne of nothing.- 83 replies

Boba's character assassination was result of I think them not wanting lead characters to be bad. Children are watching. We can't have him a crime lord doing criminal activity.- 83 replies

And that 'defanging' became even more evident when Mando showed up, showing a far better written and plotted character than Boba Fett turned out to be.- 83 replies

Nice. I saw that too. I have a few of those HG kits waiting to be built. Might be a fun kit to bring with on a trip or build while chilling on the couch watching a movie.

Arcadia's website has been down for a long time now, so I wouldn't read too much into it. It's probably quicker and easier for them to do updates via social media.

I do love dunbine. I built a lot of those back in the day. They never looked as good as the artwork on the box though. I was on that site as well and it seems they have all three of the new hg dunbine colors available. Those are really fun quick kits. And a bit pricey, but super relaxing since they are stress free. I’m still hoping they update more of those cool bugs.

Those super parts give me VF-19 and VF-25 vibes and I like it.

I enjoyed this show. I get the cheesy tropes and stupidity, but I give the show grace and call it campiness. I don't know that aside from Alien: Isolation (putting the player in the hot seat), we'll be able to invoke the level of horror that Alien did - and I don't know that I'd want that to begin with. Alien is one of the greats and I doubt you can ever re-create the theater feel of that subject matter breaking for the first time. Aliens... Again, one of the greats for me. It's hard for me to imagine topping this movie - the Alien with ALL the 80's over-the-topness. Remember, the only one in the movies that really understood how screwed everyone was all along was the cat. I do not agree with Alien: Earth sitting above these two on Rotten Tomatoes... That's a travesty... but for a TV "show" I think it has been great. Looking forward to next season where I hope the success of the first gives them a bigger budget for the effects and they use it wisely.

Well, it's a historic scene from the 1980's, where astronaut Bruce McCandless III first tested the Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU) in space without any umbilical. So with that said, it's been disassembled while I sand down the horizon on the planet. It can be; I lose memory when it happens, and my poor wife has to deal with me losing consciousness and pretty much spasming like I just got electrocuted! It's a result of a TBI (traumatic brain injury) in 2007. A lot of folks say "you don't look or talk like you're brain damaged"; it largely depends upon what part of the brain was damaged. And they change their minds pretty quick if I end up having a seizure. There are still people who avoid me like the plague after they saw me have one.

I did my own calcukatuon for shipping an item, don't know what the handling fee nonsense is but either theirbcalculator is broken because the shipping and duty fees are both doubled or Japanese companies have difured out there's enough confusion they can screw us. Those numbers are not correct. Duties are 15% from Japan, not 30%, and I priced DHL directly.
-
They haven't been charging me a carrier handling fee and 4200 is 30%.

With a 95% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, it would seem many agree with you... It's fresh and exciting. 🤨 Most of the YouTube critics I've seen agree with you. It's a dumpster fire. This is the most polarizing sci-fi I've seen since The Last Jedi. 😲

I just checked HLJ. A similar item, the HI-Metal R VF-2SS sells for 14000 Yen. HLJ wants to charge me 9500 Yen for DHL + 4200 Yen for Duties + 3300 Yen for Carrier Handling Fee, for a total of 31000 yen. HLJ actually wants to charge me more for shipping than the item’s value?!

So my lady wanted to watch Ice Road Vengeance on Netflix. I said ok reluctantly, but mostly due to me picking the last couple movies. It’s pretty much garbage, but with a bit of Liam Neeson charm. It’s pretty bad when the movie has ice road in the title, but there are barely patches of snow on the ground in a couple spots. The highlight of the movie is that Liam Neeson can somehow get a bus’s Front axle removed, climb down a hill with a a wench they somehow set up using the wheel of the bus and remove the parts off another turned over bus at the bottom of a cliff and with very little help and get the new one set up in less time than an oil change all while bleeding from a gunshot wound to the side of his belly. All mechanics should be shown this scene and shamed if they take more than an hour to work on your car. Seriously, this movie is trash, but if you owe a favor then maybe it’s worth a watch. Or maybe if there an eventual Rifftrax version it might be more fun.
