Millions of seam lines later I’m about to prime this 🦖 today. I’m guessing I’ll have to do additional surface prep once the primer reveals errors in my hasty work. I had lots of ambitious plans for this old fella but I am feeling lazy so this will be a straight build without modding anything.

Well...Laptop CPUs and SODIMMs are the next casualty in these RAM price wars. Laptop Prices Expected To Rise By 40% As Memory And CPU Prices Continue To Soar (WCCFtech) This comes on the heals of AMD reporting an uptick in server CPU growth as AI growth is seeing a surge in traditional compute (CPU) needed to run inference compute (GPU). -

That's the gist of it... Blackwell (the heart of the 50-series) is made on TSMC's 4nm line, and they are totally booked. But the 30-series runs on Ampere, which of which the consumer version was made on one of Samsung's 8nm lines. 8nm apparently isn't cutting edge enough for training AI models, but Samsung is supposedly restarting one of their 8nm lines anyway. It's not exactly a huge leap to assume that since datacenters are buying up all of Nvidia's Blackwell chips (along with with all the RAM and SSDs), Nvidia and Samsung are taking advantage of the lack of affordable consumer GPUs by selling us another round of 3060s. -

Interesting reason for doing a knockoff. I guess if the animation that’s already a knockoff, then licensed a product, then to them it’s ok to produce a knockoff from the knockoff animation, but call it an original even though it’s totally a knockoff

Seems the 3060 12GB is basically extinct now. Thinking it may be good to "sell while the iron's hot". Or maybe wait until the 5060 16's are gone? Of course, I also read a rumor they may restart 3060 production because they can actually get the chips for that... -
Well, you need a well-articulated figure to ride a hovercycle properly... LEDs mounted in the engines would look much more anime-accurate: That could be accomplished, with an electromagnetic base... 🤔 Now there's a practical solution that wouldn't increase the price. 😅

Thanks for the closeup on the on "A" sprue, as the manufacturer's name caught my eye: 뽀빠이 과학 (Popeye Science). Did some digging on the company and found this https://namu.wiki/w/뽀빠이(동음이의어) (translation in spoiler—seems to be the modelling arm of a larger company): That said, the Youtube results are intriguing—I see a couple of videos with knockoff Valkyries!: https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/뽀빠이과학

Showing the old ToyWorld figures next to the toony-smooth clean XTB Constructicons really shows how much liberty TW took with the designs. The TW figs were my first full set of Constructicons, and I was pretty impressed with them when I first got them. I remember their being one of the more popular options during the first 3P Constructicon wars, so in that respect, I'm in good company. I'm digging very much, vicariously, XTB's and MMC's takes on these guys and all that they're bringing to the table now. They're all so very impressive, and I feel you win regardless of which set you go with. Maybe not the Fans Toys as much if you favor the independent Constructicons over keeping them forever combined. There's definitely a part of me that'd love to go in on a modern set, but I don't have room for yet another MP scaled set of Constructicons and there are still things I prefer that ToyWorld did, like the moving treads on Bonecrusher and Scavenger. So, I'm content to stick with my old TW figs, but I'll continue to watch these new figs get highlighted for all the advances they represent.- 9515 replies
