Ahab
Hello Everyone, While I'm waiting for some last minute parts to arrive for the build up of the 1/2000 scale Macross from Yamato, I thought I'd do a little busy work and get this project officially started. The battroids stand at an impressive 1/4" while the valks measure 5/16". Most of the key characters mecha are present(in TV paint shcemes). Now onto the ARMDs! MechTech
Very nice! The paint kinda looks faded. Is it paint or pen? I've heard of both being used. - MT

Ahab
Thanks guys! All the color is achieved with paint and brush. The 1J and 1S started with a grey primer base with the two 1A,s and the 1D started as white primer. To emphasize the sense of scale all the colors were muted somewhat to begin with. For example, the reds and blues had small amounts of grey mixed in before applying. Once the color shapes were applied, I painted a very thin wash of gray over the whole ship, This helped to distance your eye and give the faded look. I forgot to mention the geeked-out magnifying headgear I had to wear! You should've seen the look on my wife's face...priceless. On to the ARMD 04! Ahab
If painting in 1/2000 scale wasn't tedious enough... I thought I'd challenge myself tonight and take on sculpting a regult. I'll finish up the legs tomorrow, eyes permitting!
Mark Warlock
The scale paint jobs on the VFs turned out very nice. The scratch built Regult is looking way cool so far.. Can't wait to see the full version painted up. Will you be using the SDF Macross paint scheme or the Green tinted DYRL scheme? Might think about making a small RTV mold using automotive RTV sealer and cast you a few more of those. Can't wait to see the progress of this build up. Ahab
Hey Shipmates! Finished the legs and the paint for the regult tonight, and I'm pretty happy with the results. After assembly, I did noticed the regult's "eye" was too high on the pod, so I'll need to cheat that down a taste before committing it to silicone. The legs were constructed of steel rod, brass and applied CA. The glue was used to build up the contours. The dome shapes for the feet, hips and thrusters were created by dripping (white) casting resin on wax paper(this is a great technique for creating rivets and carriage bolt heads, as well). The gun barrels come from sprues that were heated, stretched and cut to size. Ahab Edited February 23, 2012 by Ahab

Ahab
Thanks for all the kind words, it definitely helps to keep me on track! I decided to hold off on the mini monster, for now, and tackle one of two YF-19s for the attacker mode SDF display. I arrived at the decision soon after I bought the kit that I would need to build different enviroments for the Ship. A Mars base drydock will be home for the cruiser mode, while a cityscape with the SDF overhead will showcase Attacker mode. This little guy was a beast. I have a few touch ups to address here and there, but I happy with it. I sculpted a little fold booster and gun pod, too (not pictured).. Pardon the not-so-sharp images. I'll use a better camera when I post the booster pics. Next up: SDF feet. Edited February 26, 2012 by Ahab

Iceblue106
How much does a 1/2000 run these days? i'm guessing 500 USD or higher since the 1/3000 scale still costs around 340 bucks. (on HLJ anyways) http://www.hlj.com/product/YMT00211 Blue
BlueMax
Nope, because it uses HDP and production was very limited,, the price of that is IIRC, about USD 2500 Edited March 13, 2012 by BlueMax
Ahab
Yeah, it was pricey, indeed. It was about $2300 shipped when I purchased it a little over a year ago. As for updates, I'll have some progress pics in a couple days. Been working on a mini-monster and ARMD details. Work and taxes have derailed my progress the last couple weekends, but I'm back on the horse! Cheers-
