Well, Zappan is still alive. It wouldn't be a bad thing to have him as the bad guy in the second film... The question is, how would they end it? The original book ends with the space-station side of Zalem turned into a Flower...

but the goings on of Last Order.... seems way too political and complex for a 3rd movie (a multi-year Netflix show, on the other hand?)

Yeah, keeping Nova as a mere footnote or not mentioned at all might have reduced anticipation for a sequel. But if it's any consolation, Cameron's other project, a little film called Avatar, the highest grossing film ever, waited 13 years for its sequel. So, never say never. We just might be well into our grey hair when it finally comes out, though.

And other than the visuals, I did not like Avatar at all.😁 I wish he had stayed focused on Alita rather than handing it off, then maybe Battle Angel would have already had a sequel by now.;)

Back from the dead (?)

Don't bother to read the article, there's just one sentence where JC lists what's on his table.

Oh please, let this be true!! I've been waiting a long while. Heck, I still have the movie poster on my wall!

I really hope it happens sooner than later

James Cameron is working on Battle Angel 2 and 3.

Honestly, I’ve never been so excited for such a nothing bit of news. But whatever, I’m celebrating anyway

I hope I’m still alive to see it

Just what I'm thinking! At least de-aging the characters will be easy. Rosa Salazar will be, what, fifty?

I am glad to see an update, but I am also frustrated by the update. Stop giving us updates and just tell us filming is going to start!

I'd love another film, the first one was great. Loved the eyes too, worked for me and looked great, wouldn't have the same personality without them IMO, helps sell the non-human other-worldliness of Alita.

I just rewatched this again a week ago and was wondering if they’ll ever make a sequel.

Well now you have the definitive answer of ………..maybe

Which is weird. I understand Cameron wants to do more Avatar movies (IDKW), which is why he left Battle Angel Alita to Rodriguez, so what has Rodriguez been doing all this time..?

I think he did some Star Wars stuff and he’s trying to get Machete Kills Again in Space to be a thing. There’s been a couple smaller films, but can’t really think of anything too big in a while

Some SW stuff I can understand, but small time things like Machette Kills and others, instead of a big movie like Alita 2?! Maybe Cameron should get a different director to helm this.

Rodriguez, Cameron, and Co. should have been gearing up for the sequel immediately following the original. It stands, IMHO, as one of the best anime adaptations in a very short list thereof, and with all that a film of this nature requires, it would have been awesome had they actually been shooting scenes in anticipation of a sequel. I'm glad to hear that it hasn't been shelved or forgotten, but there doesn't really seem to be any real momentum either. That said, I loved the first film and I hope there's a second to give some sense of completion to the story.

As to Alita's eyes, I thought they looked a bit much in early photos, but in the film, I thought they worked for the character. I thought her overall design was excellent- visible joints, the overlarge eyes- it sells the point that she's not exactly human but looks human enough to be acceptable in human society. And in her world, she looks downright normal, if boringly so, next to some of the other cyborg monstrosities running about. To, it's a nod to her animated look.

Anyway, at least there's some hope for a sequel now. At the rate they were going, I was afraid it'd be more like the Star Wars sequels where all the main actors are in their 60s or 70s.
