I'm impressed at how her english is getting much better. She still fumbles through some sentences, but its getting there. I think being in the states now and hearing how its normally spoken has helped her a bunch.

Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Pacific Rim'
renegadeleader1 replied to fifbeat's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I hope you aren't taking the "gets the crap beat out of" part literally.... ewww. The whole super heroine fetish thing is big over there, I can't really call it pr0n because often there's not even any nudity, just usually things like a female ultraman or all female power rangers teams that usually end up defeated, and slapped around with all the acting and harshness of a pro wrestling match. :shrugs:- 1207 replies

harlock bootleg dvds any good?
renegadeleader1 replied to brewdonkey1234's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The Discotek releases are fairly cleaned up, there's a little grit here and there, but looks pretty good for a show from the mid to late 70s. Definately better than Voyager Entertainment's poor quality StarBlazers releases or AnimEigo's Arcadia of My Youth. -
Anybody up for an oldschool challenge? I got an old MSV RGC-80 GM Cannon, and to be honest its well out of my league as far as skill level is concerned. No polycaps, no stickers, a few slide decals, no color mold injection, and just plain old white plastic.

harlock bootleg dvds any good?
renegadeleader1 replied to brewdonkey1234's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Sorry if I came off as abrasive earlier, I just don't like bootlegs period, and Harlock is a favorite of mine. I waited 20+ years to finally get it released in the states, all along hearing from companies how it was too old, too long, not worth the price, and there's no interest for it. I'm afraid if Harlock, and other classics don't get supported they'll never see the light of day over here ever again. Also not to knock your girlfriend, but at $90 plus shipping you got hosed pretty badly. Rightstuf.com has the Discotek release for $41, although with the sales on there the way they are its not uncommon to pick it up like I did for $30. I can't recommend rightstuf enough. Good luck getting your money back, Ebay is usually pretty good about bootlegs and will most likely reimburse your girlfriend's account. -

Are they region locked? If not they're a bootleg. -
harlock bootleg dvds any good?

Why buy a bootleg when Discotek officially released the series subtitled on dvd less than 5 months ago? -

I'm really confused now about how Yamato's Japanese owners are approaching things here in the states. Funimation just announced on their facebook page that they aquired the rights to the live action Yamato film. This is in addition to them already owning Resurrection, and yet Voyager is going it alone with subtitled StarBlazers 2199?

Are we allowed to discuss Robotech here?
renegadeleader1 replied to isamu's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
1.There's never many topics because they almost always devolve into pointless arguments, and people looking to just be d-bags. That goes for both sides of the coin. The threads usually end up locked. 2.HG is really up to nothing right now outside of working with WEP to make a Voltron comic crossover, that will supposedly lead to more stand alone robotech comics. Other than that they had Robotech:Love Live Alive come out and are still waiting for the Live Action film to progress. 3.They have no interest in selling the rights to Macross anytime soon. -
I thougt it was going to be about what to buy, a valkyrie or a scopedog from votoms.

Just saw the Desolation of Smaug. A big improvement over the previous film. My biggest complaint is waiting another year to finish the damn story.

I agree, and its hard to call it a waste of money when ID4 made back over 10 times what it cost to make. As for the American Godzilla, I know I'm in the minority but I liked it as a pure giant monster film. As a Godzilla film its utter garbage, but that blow has been softened by ToHo firmly establishing Zilla isn't the same as Godzilla. To be honest I would rather watch 98 Godzilla than some of the other Japanese ones. Godzilla All Monster's Attack(Godzilla's revenge) is sheer torture, Godzilla vs King Ghidorah is convoluted with way too many crappy references to hollywood films, and Godzilla vs Megaguirus is boring at best. Also whoever the **** designed Godzilla Jr in Godzilla vs Space Godzilla needs to be shot.

Battletech Thread: Transforming Mechs
renegadeleader1 replied to RedWolf's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I had the Hunchback, Bushwacker, and infiltrator, To be honest they were crap next to pretty much everything. Cheap chintzy plastic prone to breaking, poor limited articulation, ugly colors, stupid exploding gimics, and all around poor design. They look like a toy that would have been at home in the 70s than the 90s. Then again they would have looked inferior to the Shogun Warriors too.- 21 replies
