  1. So... Who wants to help me fund "This Ain't Robotech Or Macross a XXX Porn Parody"? Good luck suing me or handing out a C&D, thanks to the supreme court the movies are now their own genre.
  2. Well this wouldn't be the first time Mikey wore swim trunks. A couple of the old playmates figures had him dressed like that. I think one had a hawaiian shirt too. Still... f@*$ Michael Bay. EDIT: Yup Sewer Surfer Mikey. There's also a blinged out rapper Mikey from back in the day too.
  3. Yes. So many of those props were made for the movie that when it tanked they were sold off and showed up everywhere from Firefly to Power Rangers to Syfy's original craptacular films, to yes even a porn film.
  4. At $150 a pop how much of a deal is that? Looks like they're the special white variants.
  5. I'm surprised how little you understand about Griffith. He's charasmatic, egotistical, a master manipulator and views other people as pawns to futher hs advancement no matter how caring he may seem to them outwardly. At this point in the story he hates Guts more than anything else because Guts is the one person he can't bend to his will and blames everything that happened after Guts left on him. The rape of Casca was a final insult to Guts and in Griffith's view taking back posession of something he felt he owned. As for how Guts escaped? SKULL KNIGHT, one of the major characters cut from the first episode.Anyways I just want to go back and touch apon a couple of things from your previous post. Yes Casca was on her period which depending on severity symptoms include dizzyness, fatigue, irritability, and fever. The reason you seem to be confused is because of Guts point of view. The only woman Guts ever really knew besides Casca was Gambino's wife and she died when he was very young so he has no idea how a woman's biology works. Because he is a bit of an idiot in that department is why he wonders if she is sick or wounded when he sees the blood from her menstruation. As for why Griffith snaps and has sex with Charlotte? Like I already touched on Griffith despite how much of a friend he appears to Guts he still viewed Guts as pawn to bend to his will. When Guts stands up to him, bests him in combat, and leaves him this causes Griffith to lose his cool and throw away all his carefully laid plans in a fit of rage. Remember Griffith's goal all along is to have his own kingdom nothing else matters hence why all along he had intended to seduce Charlotte and depose the king. His having sex with her was also power trip saying in his head to Guts "see I don't need you, I can take what I want!" that comes back to bite him. See how this all ties back into the rape of Casca? Its the subtilty of Griffith's character that your missing that makes you question and not understand why he does what he does.
  6. I don't think Berzerk counts as the player is just a human and not piloting a mecha even if it may be the first to feature robot enemies. According to wikipedia this entry from 1983 is the earliest game to feature a piloted mecha: Edit: Yeah 2600 artwork was awesome, even if most of the time it really had nothing to do with the actual game. Berzerk being the rare exception.
  7. Black Valkyrie and Vampire Hunter D thanks for the help with the many good suggestions! Doing some research I also came upon a couple of games I feel kinda dumb for forgetting about.... BattleClash and Metal Combat: Falcon's Revenge for the SNES superscope. I never owned a superscope, but those that did always said these were the two games to get. As I looked up those two I actually came across a game called Death Duel for the Sega Genesis that seems to be a poor man's version of those games. In it you pilot a mecha in a pseudo first person view against things like monsters, aliens, and other mecha and use a targeting cursor to blow off weapons, body parts, or kill the pilots. Its actually rather bloody for a game from back then. Do you guys remember another game from the SNES days called Vortex? It had the same FX chip StarFox did and featured a red transforming mecha. Okay final question what mecha game was the first ever made? It appears Thexder from 1985 might be the first run 'n gun platformer, but Formation Z/Aerobot might be the first ever mecha game(and first transforming one) with its 1984 release date.
  8. I loved playing FM4, right up untill I got to the giant final boss at the port and smacked my head against the wall. I own FM3, but I never got into it like I did 4. I guess the characters just didn't appeal to me like 4's did. There was something kind of awesome contrasting that untested rookie euro squad with the american veterans who had been around and seen some s***. Just a thought, but what do you say about combining this thread with the assault suit Leynos thread and make a classic mecha videogame thread covering everything?
  9. Yes, this reminds me I'm going to be making a post/blog soon covering the evolution of classic 2D mecha shooters. Here's the list so far. Thexder series(various) Metal Mech(NES) Metal Storm(NES) Assault Suits Leynos/Target Earth(Sega) Assault Suits Valken/Cybernator(SNES) Final Zone(Sega) Ranger X/EX-Ranza(Sega) Metal Warriors(SNES) Xardion(SNES) Front Mission GunHazard(SNES import) Hyper Dyne Sidearms(various) Battletech/Mechwarrior 3050(Sega/SNES) Leynos 2(Saturn) Anything I'm missing or overlooking? Let me know! Also anybody who is good wth shapeways want to d a Metal Warriors Nitro let me know and I'll help back t
  10. The first Tri-stars one is from the movies albeit wth fansubs, the second one is tv version. I think the tv had better pacing.
  11. Does that mean the CHARA can view some planets like I asked? How difficult would it be to make a telescope that could get the job done? I know the Hubble has done some break through work on things like the origins of the universe etc, but to me one of the biggest questions out there is "Are we alone?" and being able to simply look at a planet would go a long way to answering that than making guesses based on things like wobbles.
  12. I have a space question for anybody that might know the answer. You know the hubble space telescope and how it can zoom in on things in space billions of light years away? Why can't they use it to zoom in on a planetary system scientists think might have life and see if the planets have cities or anything?
  13. Vepariga, I know you said you don't like Build Fighters and haven't seen much Gundam which I think is part of the problem. A huge part of the charm of BF is the fact it makes references to just about every Gundam series ever made. Its like watching Austin Powers and never having seen a James Bond film or Spaceballs without seeing Star Wars, Trek, or Aliens. A lot of the humor isn't there if you don't understand the context of it. I would recommend coming back to it after you get a few of those recommendations under your belt. As for my recomendation I would say 0083. Very action packed and is something of a set up for Zeta. I would watch it after the original 0079 movies.
  14. Considering we still talk about garbage like Dangaio, yes we would still be talking about Pacific Rim if it was anime.
  15. Nothing but sarcasm really.
  16. Its a reference to the lost nazi gold of WWII. Studies done after the end of the war showed that of all the valuables the nazi's looted during their control over Europe only about 1/3 to 1/2 was ever recovered. This coupled with the fact that several nazi party members and sympathizers fled europe for asylum in Argentina to avoid war crime tirbunals and executions. The story goes that they used looted valuables to bribe officials and start new lives in south america as wealthy business people.
  17. There's also Allison and Lillia Princess and the Pilot The Cockpit Ziphang Pilot's Love Song Area 88 OVA and TV Series And yes Porco Rosso counts BIG TIME.
  18. For a second I thought those were prototypes for Metal Warriors figures... come to thiink of it anybody want to try their had at making a shapways Nitro or Havoc?
  19. http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=intl&country=JP&id=pacificrim.htm It made only 14 million in Japan and ranked 5 there its opening week. Both Mexico and Russia outdrew Japan. In China it made over 100 million.
  20. In a way yes. To give you an idea of how bad things are between the nations you should read this. http://www.cnbc.com/id/101300803 Basically two weeks ago the Japanese primeminister visited the shrine dedicated to the Japanese killed in WWII because his popularity was flagging. He knew it would tick off the Chinese because several people convicted of war crimes against them are also enshrined there. Pissing off the Chinese makes him look good in the eyes of his people and gave him a boost in approval even though the US admonished him for poor judgement.
  21. When it comes to China yes Japanese citizens can be that small minded. BBC did a poll that found only 5% of Japanese citizens viewed China in a positive light, and 64% negatively. When Pacific Rim dropped on Japan they were in the middle of a bad spat politically with China stemming from the 2012 trawler incident, the dispute over several islands in the gulf of China, and the fact that China is cutting the rate of raw materials exported to Japan and focusing more on its own consumption hurting Japan's economy. Its easy to see now why Pacific Rim would offend the Japanese people.
  22. 1.No Japanese robot played a major role. 2.Japanese girl falls for American soldier. 3.Chinese are show in heroic light. 4.American saving little Japanese girl. 5.No strong Japanese male hero. Those are a few things that would offend the Japanese people in a film about giant robots. Its mostly the Chinese thing though.
