Sorry to beat a dead horse, but I've been doing some research into this and I think I have figured things out. The US Army never had integrated units prior to Truman's order with the only colored units allowed to serve pre WWI were the 9th and 10th Cavalry and the 24th and 25th infantry. When the US entered WWI none of those units were allowed to server in europe, but two new colored units were raised; the 92nd and 93rd infantry divisions. General Pershing commander of the American Expeditionary Force initially had control of the 92nd and 93rd. Woodrow Wilson refused to allow those two divisions to serve in the AEF and forced Pershing to place them under French and English command. When WWI ended the units were folded back into US command and stayed there through WWII untill the units became integrated post Truman executive order. Woodrow Wilson's segregation policies focused mostly on the Navy. At any given point prior to the turn of the century the Navy had as much 30% of its manpower as colored. By 1902 the Navy started restricting recruitment of colored sailors and the percentage dropped. When Truman took office he severly cut recruitment even more, and restricted the jobs a colored sailor would be allowed to take, essentially preventing them from taking combat roles or becoming officers. the odd thing about the policies is it didn't prevent colored sailors who were already in combat roles from re-enlisting and keeping their jobs. Mommar it seems we both had a little bit of the truth. Oddly enough in doing all this research I actually came upon a plausible reason for the black guy to be in this film. Come to find out the aformentioned 93rd infantry division was stationed in the Solomon Islands during the war in the pacific. If that Predator film ever gets expanded on it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to cast him as a soldier that got cut off from his own unit.

It seems your right about this, but you have me curious when did the military first integrate and when did Wilson instate his policy? I'm not saying you're lying, its more for my personal betterment. I'm a little pissed at myself for not knowing something like this and I'm having trouble digging up any details.

No. The US military remained segregated since before the civil war by either forming soldiers into colored regiments with white officers or force them into non combatant roles. The first break in this was Eisenhower for lack of reinforcements at the battle of the buldge ordered the colored supply units to be armed and take up positions on the line. Truman officially desegregated the military in 1948 with an executive order and for the first time since the the revolution the Military had integrated units in Korea.

Just some honest critiquing here. The US Military didn't allow racially integrated units in WWII so the black guy is out of place. Predators hunt for sport and for trophies so the vaporizing grenade really isn't a weapon they would use. While its damn good for $500 its kinda disapointing the mandibles didn't move when the predator roared. That's pretty much the money shot for predator films.

With all due respect to the dead how is this considered on topic when the RIP thread for James Avery(Uncle Phil) who also voiced Shredder from TMNT and did voices for Fist Of The North Star was considered "off topic"? -

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
renegadeleader1 replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Well its been awhile since I posted in this thread, but I've had some spare time to get caught up on some series. Blue Drop- Decent show, but fairly slow moving and at 12 episodes I doubt the story will evolve much. Aquarion- Look I don't really care that Shoji Kawamori had anything to do with this show, it's just plan awful! I'm nearly 20 episodes through it and its been nothing but the same repetitive crap. Same annoying characters with no development, no real explanation of what the hell is really going on, and production values that drop into the gutter at various random points. Damn it I don't know why I'm even continuing this crap other than I've already gone this far I might as well finish. Stupid repetitive garbage. Birdy the Mighty Decode- I really regret not getting into this series sooner, and has been quite the fun little surprise. I like its mix of superhero and sci-fi and its plot really has me guessing what might happen next. I also rewatched Sword Of The Stranger which is possibly the best non Ghibli anime film I have seen. The pacing and how it builds to its climatic showdown is amazing. Speaking of the showdown every fight in this film is lushly animated and flows so smoothly. -

Well this wouldn't be the first time Mikey wore swim trunks. A couple of the old playmates figures had him dressed like that. I think one had a hawaiian shirt too. Still... f@*$ Michael Bay. EDIT: Yup Sewer Surfer Mikey. There's also a blinged out rapper Mikey from back in the day too.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0

I'm surprised how little you understand about Griffith. He's charasmatic, egotistical, a master manipulator and views other people as pawns to futher hs advancement no matter how caring he may seem to them outwardly. At this point in the story he hates Guts more than anything else because Guts is the one person he can't bend to his will and blames everything that happened after Guts left on him. The rape of Casca was a final insult to Guts and in Griffith's view taking back posession of something he felt he owned. As for how Guts escaped? SKULL KNIGHT, one of the major characters cut from the first episode.Anyways I just want to go back and touch apon a couple of things from your previous post. Yes Casca was on her period which depending on severity symptoms include dizzyness, fatigue, irritability, and fever. The reason you seem to be confused is because of Guts point of view. The only woman Guts ever really knew besides Casca was Gambino's wife and she died when he was very young so he has no idea how a woman's biology works. Because he is a bit of an idiot in that department is why he wonders if she is sick or wounded when he sees the blood from her menstruation. As for why Griffith snaps and has sex with Charlotte? Like I already touched on Griffith despite how much of a friend he appears to Guts he still viewed Guts as pawn to bend to his will. When Guts stands up to him, bests him in combat, and leaves him this causes Griffith to lose his cool and throw away all his carefully laid plans in a fit of rage. Remember Griffith's goal all along is to have his own kingdom nothing else matters hence why all along he had intended to seduce Charlotte and depose the king. His having sex with her was also power trip saying in his head to Guts "see I don't need you, I can take what I want!" that comes back to bite him. See how this all ties back into the rape of Casca? Its the subtilty of Griffith's character that your missing that makes you question and not understand why he does what he does. -

I don't think Berzerk counts as the player is just a human and not piloting a mecha even if it may be the first to feature robot enemies. According to wikipedia this entry from 1983 is the earliest game to feature a piloted mecha: Edit: Yeah 2600 artwork was awesome, even if most of the time it really had nothing to do with the actual game. Berzerk being the rare exception.

Black Valkyrie and Vampire Hunter D thanks for the help with the many good suggestions! Doing some research I also came upon a couple of games I feel kinda dumb for forgetting about.... BattleClash and Metal Combat: Falcon's Revenge for the SNES superscope. I never owned a superscope, but those that did always said these were the two games to get. As I looked up those two I actually came across a game called Death Duel for the Sega Genesis that seems to be a poor man's version of those games. In it you pilot a mecha in a pseudo first person view against things like monsters, aliens, and other mecha and use a targeting cursor to blow off weapons, body parts, or kill the pilots. Its actually rather bloody for a game from back then. Do you guys remember another game from the SNES days called Vortex? It had the same FX chip StarFox did and featured a red transforming mecha. Okay final question what mecha game was the first ever made? It appears Thexder from 1985 might be the first run 'n gun platformer, but Formation Z/Aerobot might be the first ever mecha game(and first transforming one) with its 1984 release date.

All Things Front Mission
renegadeleader1 replied to Valkyrie Hunter D's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I loved playing FM4, right up untill I got to the giant final boss at the port and smacked my head against the wall. I own FM3, but I never got into it like I did 4. I guess the characters just didn't appeal to me like 4's did. There was something kind of awesome contrasting that untested rookie euro squad with the american veterans who had been around and seen some s***. Just a thought, but what do you say about combining this thread with the assault suit Leynos thread and make a classic mecha videogame thread covering everything?- 85 replies

Science and Technology MEGA THREAD
renegadeleader1 replied to Max Jenius's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Does that mean the CHARA can view some planets like I asked? How difficult would it be to make a telescope that could get the job done? I know the Hubble has done some break through work on things like the origins of the universe etc, but to me one of the biggest questions out there is "Are we alone?" and being able to simply look at a planet would go a long way to answering that than making guesses based on things like wobbles. -

I have a space question for anybody that might know the answer. You know the hubble space telescope and how it can zoom in on things in space billions of light years away? Why can't they use it to zoom in on a planetary system scientists think might have life and see if the planets have cities or anything? -

Vepariga, I know you said you don't like Build Fighters and haven't seen much Gundam which I think is part of the problem. A huge part of the charm of BF is the fact it makes references to just about every Gundam series ever made. Its like watching Austin Powers and never having seen a James Bond film or Spaceballs without seeing Star Wars, Trek, or Aliens. A lot of the humor isn't there if you don't understand the context of it. I would recommend coming back to it after you get a few of those recommendations under your belt. As for my recomendation I would say 0083. Very action packed and is something of a set up for Zeta. I would watch it after the original 0079 movies.
